Arbor Day Tree Sale Each year, the Town of Windsor offers a great selection of trees to Windsor residents at discount prices. These trees grow well in the Windsor area and are to be planted within town limits (for clarification on residency, please check your property tax statement). Colorado Bike Month Leave the car at home and bike to work! To celebrate bicycling for transportation, fun and health, Colorado has designated June as Bike Month. While there will be many events around the state throughout the month, the highlight of the month is Bike to Work Day, when employees leave their cars at home and enjoy bicycling to work. Breakfast Station: A breakfast station will be provided at the Community Recreation Center for anyone riding their bike to work on Wednesday, June 27th. The station will be open from 6am – 8am. Staff from Spokes Bicycle Shop will be on hand to offer repair/help to riders who stop by. Fresh fruit, granola bars and other healthy snacks will be provided for FREE! Wed

Arbor Day 5K Run/Walk The Town of Windsor Tree Board will host the 6th Annual Arbor Day 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 21st. The race will start and finish at Boardwalk Park and follow the Windsor Lake Trail. Proceeds will go towards planting trees throughout the community. Leashed dogs are welcome. Preregister at the CRC or on race day beginning at 7am. Fee includes a t-shirt. Awards will be given to the top runners/walkers in each category and lots of giveaways will be handed out!

Date Night at the Movies

S.A.L.T. is a self-sustaining group made up of local Middle School and High School students who want to make a difference in the community. They are credited with providing over a dozen safe activities a year for teens and the community. The goal is to provide positive alternative activities that students will want to participate in. S.A.L.T. holds meetings on the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month, where new events are planned and ideas are discussed to better the community.

Pikes Peak Cog Railway What is a “Cog” Railway? Conventional railroads use the friction of wheels upon the rails, called “adhesion”, to provide locomotive power. A cog, or rack, railroad uses a gear, “cog wheel”, meshing into a special rack rail (mounted in the middle between the outer rails) to climb much steeper grades than those possible with a standard adhesion railroad. An adhesion railroad can only climb grades of 4 to 6%, with very short sections of up to 9%. Active Adults Cherokee Ranch & Castle Tour Step back in time at the Castle. This tour covers details of the Castle’s history and architecture, as well as its unique furnishings and collections of art from around the world.

Cherokee Castle (South of Denver) was built between 1924 and 1926 by Denver Real estate tycoon Charles Alfred Johnson and his wife, Alice. The Johnson’s hired Merrill and Burnham Hoyt, well known Denver architects, to design the house. Originally the house was planned to be very modest, but one thing led to another, and by the time the design was complete, the building contained 26 rooms, and sprawled to 10,000 square feet. Kids Can Train Dogs Too! Your child and your dog will develop trust and have fun as they begin to work on basic training skills. Your child will also learn about dog body language, how to act around familiar and unfamiliar dogs, and safety rules. You and your child will learn and play K9 Games and will compete on the last day of class. For dogs 5 months and up at the start of class, and children ages 8-14 (Contact instructor if child is younger to see if this class is right for your family). Dogs must be friendly with dogs and people. At least one parent/legal guardian will need to accompany their child and dog to each class.

CARA Youth Tennis A grass roots program, CARA youth tennis is great for new players to the sport of tennis as well as players with more advanced skills.

Players will learn at their own pace. Match play will be held on Fridays for both age groups. Matches are played in Windsor, Greeley, Longmont and Loveland. Match schedules will be made available during the second week of practices. A state-wide tournament concludes the season in July.

Sports – Youth Challenger British Soccer Camp Challenger has developed a unique camp program that offers players a much broader soccer skills experience.

Camp coaches are selected and trained in the UK. They are professional, outgoing, have a cool “British” accent and a genuine interest in helping each participant develop and provide them with a very memorable and positive experience.

Challenger’s NEW 1,000 Touches Curriculum has been created to address the key areas of the sport. Participants will learn the basic skills of soccer; such as the ABC’s (agility, balance and coordination), The Moves, Freestyle Soccer, Dribbling, Passing/Receiving, Shooting, Heading and Tackling/Defending. The more time the players spend in contact with the ball the quicker they will master important core skills. Recreation Football Recreation football divisions are offered in conjunction with the Ft. Collins Recreation Department. Teams will practice in Windsor and travel to F.C. for games. Participants are placed into divisions according to grade for Ultimate and Flag, and grade/weight for Tackle.

The tackle football division is an 8-man league. This league has an equal playing time rule.

Intermediate Football Intermediate football will be offered in conjunction with the Coal Creek Midget Football League (CCMFL). Teams practice in Windsor & travel to the Northern Denver area for games. Participants are placed into divisions according to age. Player’s weight may prohibit them from playing certain positions. This league does not have an equal playing time requirement. The league follows 11-man NFHS rules with league specific additions or changes. Teams are scheduled for 6-8 games plus end of season playoff.

Intermediate AA and AAA Baseball Tryouts Teams are forming for the 2013 Intermediate AA and AAA baseball. Open tryouts will be held for existing teams needing players and new teams. Players will be evaluated on baseball skills, athleticism and attitude. AA teams will play in the Longmont Baseball League and AAA teams will play in the Fort Collins Rookie League. High School Summer Baseball This is a competitive baseball league that is an extension of the Windsor High School baseball program and organized by the high school baseball coaches. Players will initially be split into three teams, Varsity, JV, and C team with the possibility of moving from one team to another throughout the season.

Teams play 25-to-35 games in both wooden bat and aluminum bat leagues. Teams will also participate in tournaments during the season and post-season.

Rockies Skills Challenge

Co-sponsored by the Colorado Rockies and the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association, this challenge, open to boys and girls, is a fun competition that tests skills in base running, batting off a tee, and throwing for distance and accuracy. The top boy and girl in each division will advance to a sectional competition in July. (Copy of birth certificate will be needed from winners.) Sectional winners will advance to the State Championships at All Star Park in August.

Treasure Island Garden

Located adjacent to Laku Lake Road, along the Poudre River Trail, south of Eastman Park.

Treasure Island Garden is a cooperative effort between the Town of Windsor and the Colorado Master Gardeners of Weld County.

Weld County Colorado Master GardenersSM from Treasure Island Garden will be discussing the topics listed below and answering questions. The Town of Windsor Brush Recycling Site is now being operated by the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

Location: The Brush Recycling Site is still located at 801 Diamond Valley Dr., however a new entrance has been created for the site. Access to this entrance is available from Diamond Valley Dr. Permits: Annual brush permits are available for Windsor residents. Load fees will apply at the site. Please see fee information below.

Refund Policy:

After initial registration, a refund request is required in writing a minimum of five (5) days prior to the start of any class or program to receive a full refund unless otherwise noted. Four (4) days prior to the start date and through the first week of the session, 50% of the registration fee is refundable. No refunds or transfers will be allowed after the first week of the session unless circumstances, stated in writing, warrant consideration. Refund request forms are located at the Community Recreation Center or visit www.windsorgov.com.

Full refunds will be given if the Recreation Division cancels a class or program. Please note: minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled. No refunds or transfers will be accepted less than two (2) days prior to the start of a program that only meets once.

Waiting lists for a closed class or sport provides us with a name and phone number in the event of a cancellation or if a new class is added. It does not limit you from registering for any other open class.

Minimums/Maximums:

Class sizes may be limited to assure class quality and safety. Minimum participation numbers must be met or programs may be cancelled.

Team Selection:

The Parks, Recreation & Culture Department’s goal is to provide participants opportunities to form new friendships, and have a fun recreational atmosphere with teams as balanced as possible.

Special requests are not taken. Only the head coach and one assistant coach’s children are placed on teams together. Teams are randomly selected by computer or by assessments, separated by skill level, age or grade and gender if applicable.

Participants must recognize that all classes/ activities of a physical nature involve some risk and by registering for a class/activity of this nature, there is an assumption of risk by the participant. Every effort is made to ensure the safety of the participants and to provide them with first class recreational facilities, activities and parks.

In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of the Town of Windsor to: 1. Call 911 for emergency personnel for first aid.

2. Reach the parent or guardian as soon as the situation allows.

Each registration must have a waiver signed by either a parent or legal guardian.

PERMISSION TO USE PHOTOGRAPHS: On behalf of myself and any other person upon whose behalf this form is now signed, I hereby grant full and unrestricted permission to the Town of Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department to use photographs in publications of the Town of Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department and to release photographs to media outlets for publicity purposes.

Upon my signature hereon, I acknowledge that I have read and understand this Liability Waiver and Permission to Use Photographs, and have freely and voluntarily signed this document on the date hereinafter set forth.

REFUND POLICY: 1. After initial registration, a refund request is required in writing a minimum of five (5) days prior to the start of any class or program for a full refund unless otherwise noted.

2. Four (4) days prior to the start date and through the first week of the session, 50% of the registration fee is refundable. No refunds or transfers will be allowed after the first week of the session unless circumstances stated in writing, warrant consideration.

3. No refunds or transfers will be accepted less than two (2) days prior to a program that only meets once.

4. Full refunds will be given if the Recreation Department cancels a class or program. Please note: minimum participation numbers must be met or programs and classes may be cancelled.

Reduced Fee Program

The Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department has a reduced fee program that offers financial assistance to both children and adults who need support in order to participate in recreation activities. Please contact the Community Recreation Center to obtain an application. Your request will be confidentially reviewed and approved based on financial qualifications. For details see page 42.
