Take a bus tour of Denver’s famous Colfax Avenue along its entire 26-mile length from Golden to Aurora. Presented by Denver History Tours, on this five-hour tour you will learn about the evolution of this avenue from neighborhood street to its designation as US Highway 40. Each city along the route has something to share about the rich history of Colfax. Lakewood retains many of the motor hotels servicing auto traffic from the early to mid-20th century. Denver’s portion has gone through many incarnations as well, including its seedier elements of pornography shops and prostitution. Learn about the city’s efforts to improve Colfax’s image along major stretches of the avenue. Continue along into Aurora to see the major redevelopments occurring at the old Fitzsimons Hospital. Colfax is a microcosm of Denver society and this tour will help us learn about ourselves. Come join the fun! (This tour includes a one-hour break for lunch. Participants should bring money for their meal). Walking Level: Easy Register by: Oct 17 Ages: 55+   Min 8/Max 13  #311420.08 Th

Humphrey Memorial Park, Museum & Nature Tea Lunch (Denver) The Humphrey house museum will amaze you! It is filled with antiques, collectibles, art, textiles and artifacts from the family’s many transatlantic cruises and world travels. The family was unique in documenting their own history for over a century through scrapbooks, letters, photos, and heirloom collections that date back to the 1860’s. Today the rooms of the house are very much as the family lived in them. Photos from the early 20th Century show the furniture, wall hangings and items placed just as you see them on your tour. After our tour we will enjoy a wonderful Nature Tea Lunch. Trip includes tour, tea/lunch, transportation and escort. Walking Level: Moderate

COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER

PROPOSED EXPANSION QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

OUR COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER IS BUSY. VERY BUSY. Demand for recreation programming at Windsor’s Community Recreation Center has grown 218 percent over the past 10 years. The increase in demand for programming is driven both by an increase in Windsor’s population—which has grown from about 10,000 to 20,000 residents the past decade—and by efforts to increase the scope of our recreation programming. We have come to the point where our facilities and programs simply cannot keep pace with the demand for indoor recreation. Windsor citizens for years have expressed support for expanding indoor recreational options. Our voters supported the construction of the current Community Recreation Center by approving a sales tax increase in 2002. And a 2011 public opinion survey indicated strong local support for indoor leisure pools, lap lanes, weight-training space and cardio space. During the past three years, extensive research and deliberation has gone into developing a plan to address our community’s highest priority unmet indoor recreation needs. In response, the plan recommends expanding the existing Community Recreation Center to include a wide range of amenities. The Windsor Town Board is now considering seeking local voter approval on the fall 2014 ballot for a sales-tax increase to fund the improvements to the Community Recreation Center. The following information offers greater detail and answers questions you may have about the pending proposal.

WHAT CHALLENGES CURRENTLY FACE WINDSOR RESIDENTS SEEKING INDOOR RECREATION PROGRAMS & FACILITIES? Many Windsor residents travel great lengths to address their indoor recreation needs. Chimney Park Pool is limited to seasonal programming, and gymnasiums and other recreation facilities at our local schools are also operating at or near capacity. Meanwhile, participation in our Community Recreation Center programs has grown 218 percent since 2004. Youth activities participation has grown 123 percent. Senior participation has grown 114. WHAT ARE THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS TO THE COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER? The proposed improvements to the Community Recreation Center include: • A leisure pool • Lap lanes • A water slide • An auxiliary gym • A walk/jog track • An aerobics/dance/yoga studio • A fitness/wellness studio • Expanded locker rooms • A child-watch area • A classroom/party room • Additional parking

WHAT IS THE ESTIMATED COST? The estimated cost of the project is $16.1 million, which includes site work, construction and other project costs. HOW WOULD THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS BE FUNDED? The current plan under consideration would seek voter approval of a sales tax of 0.75 percent (3/4 of 1 cent on each dollar), which amounts to 7.5 cents per $10 for purchases made in Windsor. WHO WOULD PAY THE SALES TAX? Anyone making a retail purchase in Windsor city limits, which includes many non-residents. WOULD THE PROPOSAL INCLUDE A PROPERTY TAX? No. Our property taxes would not be affected in any way. WHAT ARE THE KEY BENEFITS? Parks and recreation amenities provide many benefits to our community, including: • enhancing property values • helping attract and retain professionals and businesses • promoting healthy life choices • controlling healthcare costs • providing social interaction • keeping seniors, family and kids connected • improving our quality of life
