Arbor Day Tree Sale Each year, the Town of Windsor offers a great selection of trees to Windsor residents at discount prices. These trees grow well in the Windsor area and are to be planted within town limits (for clarification on residency, please check your property tax statement). Colorado Bike Month Leave the car at home and bike to work! To celebrate bicycling for transportation, fun and health, Colorado has designated June as Bike Month. While there will be many events around the state throughout the month, the highlight of the month is Bike to Work Day, when employees leave their cars at home and enjoy bicycling to work. Breakfast Station: A breakfast station will be provided at the Community Recreation Center for anyone riding their bike to work on Wednesday, June 25th. The station will be open from 6am–8am. Staff from Spokes Bicycle Shop will be on hand to offer repair/help to riders who stop by.

T’ai Chi Chih Beginner Achieve a healthier mind, body, and spirit through an inner discipline that focuses on circulating and balancing your body’s natural energy. T’ai Chi Chih is a slow-moving meditation that is fun, easy, and enjoyable to do. Reported benefits include reduced stress, strengthened immune system, weight and B/P control, and better balance and flexibility. The 19 gentle movements and one pose can be done by anyone regardless of age or physical ability including those in wheelchairs. It is a joy through movement.

An introduction to the modern sport of fencing. Learn fundamental weapon skills with the foil as well as basic rules and safety requirements. The aim is to prepare novices to both enjoy fencing with partners and to continue learning more advanced skills and strategies. Participants are required to wear athletic shoes and pants. Novices, improve and expand your fencing skill with the foil. Certain diet patterns seem to have a major effect in helping people diagnosed with cancer to live longer, healthier lives. The National Cancer Institute research shows that as much as 50% of cancer risk may be related to diet. In this class, you will learn about the right food choices that can help reduce the risk of developing cancer as well as overcome the disease after it has been diagnosed. This class is an Introduction to How Foods Fight Cancer while enjoying a cooking demonstration and tasting delicious, healthful dishes.

Senior – Platte River Canoe Trip Special trip for Seniors! Enjoy the wonderful wildlife right here in your own backyard while canoeing down the Platte River.

The trip starts out on the St.Vrain River and ends up on the South Platte River at Two Rivers Parkway. Join Bernie Kendall, certified licensed instructor, from White Water Canoeing Co. on the high adventure and picturesque float. Only minutes from Windsor! No canoeing experience necessary, but must be in good physical condition to paddle a canoe. Instruction will be included.

Sailing at Windsor Lake Instructor Bernie Kendall, from White Water Canoe Co. (certified licensed instructor), will teach the basic fundamentals of sailing using the state-of-the-art Sunfish Crafts. Summer Competition Cheerleading Team - Windsor Wildfires

For all those kids who’ve got Windsor Spirit, please join Coach Kelly in supporting our community and learning about what teamwork really means. On these noncompetitive teams your cheerleader will learn all about cheer basics, stunting, dance, and of course awesome cheers to motivate a crowd. In addition, the teams will be invited to perform in the community (all performances are optional, but super fun!).

Some performances include, summer concert series, parades, and charity events. Since every cheerleader loves to be in uniform, the team will be asked to wear uniforms each week at practice and at any community event we participate in. Uniforms will include a skirt, top, briefs, pom poms, socks, and a bow.

Spirit Fest is an Annual Cheerleading Competition held on Saturday, September 6th at Elitch Gardens in Downtown Denver. Not only do cheerleaders get to experience a fun competition, but they also get to hang out in the theme park all day with their Team. Spirit Fest awards trophies and 2015 Elitch Gardens annual passes to qualifying winners. If your child has ever wanted to experience cheerleading in a competitive arena, come spend your summer on the Windsor Wildfire Competition Cheer Team and join in the fun! The competition team will learn cheer, dance, tumbling and stunts. Keep in mind that the competition team truly depends on all participants being dedicated to the team. CARA Track

Recreational volleyball offers an interactive team-building opportunity while focusing on developing passing and serving skills as well as proper technique, team work and FUN. Coaches promote a safe, effective learning environment that will motivate your child to love the game of volleyball.

The Windsor Youth Workout Club allows kids to work out (warming-up, strength building and endurance training) twice a week with members of the Windsor Severance Fire Rescue. Please dress appropriately for weather conditions and be sure to bring plenty of water and a snack if needed. A mandatory parent meeting will be held at the beginning of the first workout session. Come prepared and motivated because members of the WSFR are going to offer you a challenging workout! Classes end promptly at 11:00am. Please have plans in place to collect your kid accordingly.

Get on track this summer with coed recreational track competition. Learn the basic skills and fundamentals in various track and field events. Both individual and team events are held for any ability. Practices will be on Tuesday & Thursday from 6 - 7:30pm.

Meets will be held on Saturdays in June and July. Meet schedules will be given at the first practice. Parents must provide transportation to and from meets. Registration fee does include a t-shirt.

The 3v3 Basketball Summer Jam is for you. This league is perfect for boys and girls 5th–8th grade players who are currently playing on a competitive team.

The league combines 30–45 minutes a night of skills and drills followed by 3v3 games. Players are randomly selected to form teams each week and will play three games per night.

3v3 games are 10–15 minutes in length with a running clock. Changes to the format will be made throughout the season based on needs of the participants. Parents may not coach during games.

Teams are forming for the 2014–2015 Intermediate Basketball Season. Open tryouts will be held for existing teams needing players and new teams. Teams will play in Power to Play Sports Fall League.

Each league has the option to compete in Gold Crown Foundation Basketball or play in the Power to Play Sports Winter League.

The PAYS program helps parents and youth leagues work together to provide the best possible sports experience for children. If you have previously attended the PAYS portion of the Parent Meeting, you do not need to attend again.

Concussion training starts at 7pm. This training educates parents about the signs and symptoms of concussions while emphasizing the seriousness of head injuries. If you have attended the concussion training you are not required to attend again. The sport specific portion of the meeting starts at 7:30pm, which covers season schedules, rules and more.

Forestry Treasure Island Garden

Located off 7th St. (south of Eastman Park Dr.) at Laku Lake Road, along the Poudre River Trail.

Treasure Island Garden is a cooperative effort between the Town of Windsor and the Colorado Master Gardeners.

Colorado Master Gardeners will be sharing information of interest to local gardeners, and conducting garden-related activities at Treasure Island Demonstration Garden on the second Saturday of each month. Please join us for classes or demonstrations or activities designed to meet the needs of local gardeners. Classes/activities begin at 10am and will be held at the garden. Call (970) 686-2999 for additional information. Be prepared for the weather. Bring your chair, water bottle, and sunscreen.

Group Garden Tours or Treasure Island Demonstration Garden Speakers: If your group or club would like a tour of Treasure Island Demonstration Garden, or to schedule a speaker for your group, please call (970) 686-2999 to schedule. Tours can have a specific focus such as Plant Select©, xeric© gardening, veggies, or just be a random walk-through to see what is growing and blooming. All speakers will be experienced master gardeners.

Parking is available beside the road for cars or small group buses. Most of the garden can be viewed from paved surfaces.

Help Wanted: Treasure Island Garden volunteers pick produce for the Windsor Food Pantry on Tuesday and Thursday mornings starting in July. If you would like to help, meet us at the vegetable garden at 8am. Produce needs to be delivered as early as possible.

No experience needed. We train! If you would like to volunteer at the garden please join us April 1, Tuesday, for a spring garden kickoff brunch. Call for time/location.

100% refund: Requests must be made a minimum of five (5) days prior to the start of any class or program to receive a full refund unless otherwise noted.

The registration deadlines for each event are listed in this brochure under the event description. A “first come, first served” wait list will be maintained after the deadline date to fill any remaining event openings.

Notice to Participants: Reduced Fees

Eligible participants in our Reduced Fee Program can receive a discount off the registration fee. Applications are available at the Community Recreation Center or online at www.windsorgov.com. Please see page 42 for information.

Waiting List Procedure:

Waiting lists are a source of contact and do not guarantee you will receive a call back. We will contact you only if a space becomes available.

Waiting lists for a closed class or sport provides us with a name and phone number in the event of a cancellation or if a new class is added. It does not limit you from registering for any other open class.

Team Selection:

The Parks, Recreation & Culture Department’s goal is to provide participants opportunities to form new friendships, and have a fun recreational atmosphere with teams as balanced as possible.

Special requests are not taken. Only the head coach and one assistant coach’s children are placed on teams together. Teams are randomly selected by computer or by assessments, separated by skill level, age or grade and gender if applicable.

Participants must recognize that all classes/ activities of a physical nature involve some risk and by registering for a class/activity of this nature, there is an assumption of risk by the participant. Every effort is made to ensure the safety of the participants and to provide them with first class recreational facilities, activities and parks.

In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of the Town of Windsor to: 1. Call 911 for emergency personnel for first aid.

2. Reach the parent or guardian as soon as the situation allows.

Each registration must have a waiver signed by either a parent or legal guardian.

Reduced Fee Program

The Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department has a reduced fee program that offers financial assistance to both children and adults who need support in order to participate in recreation activities. “Batten down the hatches” usually means prepare for a storm or trouble.

No storms or trouble were found at the Good Samaritan Society - Water Valley Senior Living Resort in Windsor on Friday, January 31, 2014. Instead of stormy weather, an exciting and entertaining cruise ship ball was held for the 152 residents of this active senior living community.

Residents competed through trivia games and activities to earn the honor of being seated at the Captain’s Table.

The Cruise Ship Ball was enjoyed by all the residents and the staff. Residents

dressed up in their finest clothing, and staff dressed up as Sailors, Cruise Ship Directors, Captains and even a “Blue Mermaid” was present. All danced to the music of the “Tom Allan Variety Band.” Each resident attending the festivities was given a chance to spin a prize wheel, and everyone went home with a prize.

Throughout the year, dining management teams up with other departments with a cruise ship passport theme event.

Each month, the U.S.S. Good Samaritan “docks” at a port, and the residents enjoy entertainment and cuisine cus-

tomary for the celebrated country, right here in our restaurant-style dining room.

Other events include “Paris, the City of Love” for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated in Ireland, and in April, there will be a “Tulips in Holland” passport event, celebrating spring and the country of Holland.

At the conclusion of the evening of entertainment, a “passing of the captain’s hat” ceremony was performed and John McElderry accepted his new role as Executive Manager at Good Samaritan Water Valley Senior Living Resort!
