Eric Lucas, Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture What a summer! I hope each of you were able to get out and enjoy the fabulous weather and visit our park system, as well as get in a family vacation or two. Did you have the opportunity to visit our newest parks in the Windshire and Village East neighborhoods? If you did, let us know what you think, and, if not, please be sure to check them out; I am certain they will not disappoint! As we transition into fall, be sure to check out everything we have to offer, from events, like Harvest Festival and Oktoberfest, to the many programs, activities, and cultural offerings

that can be found in our Activity Guide. The fall will also see continued work on the new Parks Maintenance and Museum Collections Facility, as well as the Creamery building located on Ash Street. When opened later this year, this renovated facility will serve as a multigenerational program space for classes and programs related to the arts and sciences. Be sure to check it out! As always, please feel free to reach out and let us know how we are doing and in what areas we could improve!

MEMBERSHIPS YOUR RECREATION STARTS HERE Community Recreation Center The Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department welcomes you to our 85,000-square-foot Windsor Community Recreation Center. The Windsor CRC features two gymnasiums, fitness rooms, an elevated walking track, and indoor aquatic facility, in addition to a variety of other rooms and amenities.

Indoor Aquatic Center Our indoor aquatic facility serves as the Windsor CRC's centerpiece, featuring three lap lanes, a zerodepth entry pool with play feature, a lazy river, water slide, and a 23-person hot tub! The full Aquatics section begins on page 35.

Fitness Facilities An auxiliary gym with an elevated walking and jogging track connects our 3,500-square-foot fitness space. Take advantage of our cutting-edge fitness rooms on the first and second floors, featuring Cybex cardiovascular and weight equipment. The full Fitness section begins on page 65.

Childcare Covered Need your child taken care of during your facility use? Take advantage of our childcare services in our Kid's Corner! Join us from 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 8 p.m. Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Fridays, and 8 a.m. - noon on Saturdays. Childcare costs $3 per child for drop-ins for a maximum of two hours at a time for children 18 months to 7 years old.

Pumpkin Carving Workshop Saturday, Oct. 19 Discover the secrets of creating amazing pumpkin masterpieces! Pumpkin artist John Bardeen of Grampa Bardeen’s Family Pumpkin Carving Kits will walk you through carving techniques, and everyone will leave with a freshly carved jack-o’lantern to take home. Bike Events

Saturday, Sept. 21 10 a.m. - Noon Biketoberfest will be a casual ride around town where you’ll explore Windsor by bike and end up at Oktoberfest at noon. We’ll meet at 10 a.m. at Eastman Park, where volunteers will provide a quick bike safety check, pump up your tires, and lube your chain before heading out on the ride. The ride will end at the Oktoberfest celebration for fun and activities (see page 9). Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Wednesday, Aug. 21 8 - 11 a.m. See the Poudre Trail from a new perspective — take a ride with a Poudre Heritage Alliance Heritage Culturalist and learn about the history of the area from the perspective of the Poudre River along the Poudre River Trails. ‘Historic Windsor: The Past in Color’ October 10 – December 15 Familiar images from Windsor’s past are re-imagined in full color at this one-of-a-kind exhibition! Members of the Windsor Lake Artists group drew inspiration from historic photographs of Windsor to recreate them as stunning paintings. These colorful paintings come to life as they are complemented with artifacts from the Town of Windsor Museum’s collection and information about the time and place the image was captured. ‘Print Renaissance: Mid-century Masters of American Printmaking’ December 26 – March 15, 2020

ABOVE “Girl with Beets” by Nancee Sebenaler will appear in the exhibit “Historic Windsor: The Past in Color.” Artists for the exhibit include Alene Starkey, Nancee Sebenaler, Helga Peiler, Darlene Stephenson, Cheryl Gratias, Cecelia Jacobson, Roxanne Ellis, Joan Schweizer, Joyce Devine-Stumpf, and Sherri Scofield.

The founding of new print studios in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s led to a resurgence of printmaking. As artists began working alongside skilled printmakers, lithographs and silkscreens grew increasingly popular as more affordable options for collecting original works. Artists, including Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Frank Stella, and Robert Rauschenberg, integrated printmaking into their artistic practices. This exhibition features these artists and more in a celebration of 20th-century masters of American printmaking. Visitors will learn about printmaking techniques and this important chapter in American art history. This class was developed by Stanford University. The class covers how best to work with your healthcare provider, preventing or delaying complications, preventing low blood sugar, reading nutrition labels, healthy eating, physical activity and exercise, and how to design your own self-management program. Active Adults Windsor Ride Program The Windsor Ride Program provides transportation assistance to residents (age 55 and older), who reside in Windsor, and are unable to drive themselves, or do not have alternate transportation, so they can attend medical-related appointments. Individuals who do not meet the age criteria, but need ride assistance, will be evaluated on a caseby-case basis. The Windsor Ride Program can also be used for shopping at local businesses, banks, grocery stores, the post office, hardware stores, pharmacies, general stores, and hair salons. In addition, rides are also provided to and from the Friendly Fork CafĂŠ Lunches at the Community Recreation Center. The following is a schedule of the days and times when appointments may be scheduled through the Senior Ride Program. Presently, the Society has title to approximately 100 acres of land, located just north of the community of Fort Lupton on the South Platte River, which includes the historic site of the original Fort Lancaster as Lupton’s Fort was known from 1836 to 1843. This land makes up the South Platte Valley Historic Park that currently includes several historic structures and a large area along the Platte River on which re-enactments of the historic furtrade era rendezvous are held. The park contains the reconstructed Fort Lancaster, a trapper cabin from the 1850s, an early farm house from the late 1860s, and one of Weld County’s first one-room school houses from 1875. On this tour you will spend the morning experiencing the early settlement of Colorado, complete with Colonial Period re-enactors. We’ll stop for lunch at the Double Tree in Platteville before heading home. Note: Please be sure to bring $4 cash to pay for the docent-led tour.

Elk Bugling (Denver) In Rocky Mountain National Park, fall brings clear blue skies, crisp air, bugling elk, and bighorn sheep butting contests. The peak of the Aspen gold rush is usually in late September. During the SeptemberOctober mating season, bull elk stage their own passion play of sorts. ‘Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature’ (Denver) The Denver Art Museum will be home to the most comprehensive U.S. exhibition of Monet paintings in more than two decades. The exhibition will feature more than 125 paintings spanning Monet’s entire career and will focus on the celebrated French impressionist artist’s enduring relationship with nature and his response to the varied and distinct places in which he worked. The presentation of “Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature” will explore Monet’s continuous interest in capturing the quickly changing atmospheres, the reflective qualities of water and the effects of light, aspects that increasingly led him to work on multiple canvases at once. All watercraft outside of the swim beach must have a current Town of Windsor permit to use the lake. Non-motorized boats include paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, and trolling motors with 10 HP or less. One permit per craft is required. Starting August 12, nonmotorized boats can be on the lake year round from sunrise to sunset as long as ice is not present.

Fishing Information • Fishing is allowed on Windsor Lake year round when ice is not present.

Lake Information

• Must have a valid fishing license. • Windsor Lake is generally stocked with Yellow Perch Fingerling, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, and Trout. • Night fishing is allowed from the south end of the parking lot on Highway 257 north to the inlet bridge of the lake only. • Each fisherman must have a line in the water that is being attended.

Special Interest

The first 30 minutes of class incorporates story time, movement, crafts, and music, and introduces educational features in a classroom setting. Then we will transition to the pool for the last 30 minutes where an instructor will introduce parents and children to the water using songs and teaching basic body position to promote water comfort and safety. This class focuses on the fundamental rules and skills of the exciting and safe sport of modern Olympic fencing. Students learn fundamental skills, such as basic footwork and bladework with the foil — a light thrusting weapon — as well as the basic rules of play and safety requirements of the sport. Instruction is with a coach, in groups, and working with a partner. There is time for fencing bouts with others at the end of each class. Come prepared to exercise and have fun! Cheer and Tumbling Competitive Cheerleading: Wildfires Prep and All Star Elite Teams Wildfires is a competitive cheer program for athletes looking to take their skills to the next level. Athletes focus on elite competitive routines that include dance, stunts, and tumbling set to energetic and fast-paced music. Wildfires has proven success with great coach-to athlete ratios, highly qualified coaches, and affordability for families. We accept athletes ages 5 - 18 years old. Both Prep and All Star Elite Teams are formed at tryouts and are based on skill and age. Year-round All Star Elite Teams Tryouts for this team will be held in April or May 2020. If you have a qualified athlete, we are happy to do an evaluation to see if they can join the team mid-season.

Myofascial Release Workshop When paired with a yoga practice, myofascial release is very effective in releasing muscular tension and soreness, increasing range of motion, and working with scar tissue. SuperTots Sports Camps

SoccerTots is our flagship program! Playable on almost any surface, these soccer-themed motor skill classes are very easy for youngsters to get into. Younger age groups focus on developing motor skills and self-confidence; older classes focus more on developing core soccer skills and personal focus, and introduce an element of light competition. The instructor-to-student ratio is kept small to maximize individual development, and above all else they promote fun, fun, fun!

Since 2002, SuperTots has engaged kids, ages 2 to 5, in physical activity in a non-competitive environment that is safe and fun above all else. SuperTots knows kids are hardwired to learn through play. For that reason, they’ve designed an engaging, skill-building curriculum in which “tots” learn through a series of fun games. They will acquire athletic skills and fitness, while also developing an interest and love of sports.

1stDownTots (Football) is a development program for kids that uses a variety of fun games to engage kids while teaching the sport of football and developing fundamental skills. The goal is to build fitness, muscle coordination, and football fundamentals, as well as to create a love of the game. They do not do any tackling or blocking at this level.

Programs run 50 minutes and meet once a week for six weeks at a time. All programs are $89 and include a T-shirt and an award.

Join us for a stroll through Staunton Park in Pine, Colo. Nearly 4,000 acres of beautiful, peaceful forest with diverse wildlife known to Colorado reside in this park. This event is wheelchair accessible through the park’s all-terrain wheelchairs.

Feeling creative? Join us for a fun time at a paintyour-own-pottery studio. You’ll pick your piece and paint colors, and then get to relax during this therapeutic program. The price includes supplies and transportation. The studio is wheelchair accessible.
