2015 RARE & FINE WINE AUCTION FEATURED WINEMAKER: ANNE MOLLER-RACKE Moller-Racke joins a “Who’s Who” list of legendary featured winemakers honored at WFFT’s annual auction, including Merry Edwards, Robert Mondavi, Paul Hobbs, Chuck Wagner, Christian Moueix and others. “Under the watchful eye of Anne Moller-Racke, Donum Estate has consistently been among the highest-rated wine producers in California,” said Daniel Bleier, chairperson of WFFT’s Auction Committee. “In our 30th year as a charity auction, The Wine & Food Foundation is extremely proud to honor a leader as accomplished in her craft as Anne, who is highly admired among her contemporaries for her steadfast pursuit to make the world’s perfect pinot noir.” She’s well on her way to achieving that goal. In Donum’s last 12 vintages, which Moller-Racke guided from vine to bottle, 32 of its 34 pinot noirs reviewed by Wine Spectator have earned 90-96 points (excellent to outstanding categories), with the Donum Pinot Noir Carneros 2010 landing 59th in the magazine’s Top 100 list for 2013. Although known primarily for pinot noir, Donum’s chardonnays have also received 90-points-plus ratings from Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate, and Wine Enthusiast and shouldn’t be overlooked. 4

1946 Don PX and Mulholland Wine Bag 1. 1 946 Bodegas Toro Albala Don PX Convento Seleccion, Montilla-Moriles, 750ml Rated 100 by Robert Parker
“The 1946 Don PX Convento Seleccion produced with Pedro Ximenez grapes dehydrated under the sun at the time of the Second World War, was only bottled in September 2011. This is an extreme wine, my first descriptor was ultramega-super concentrated. It is unbelievably powerful, both in the nose and the palate, full of umami, with sweet cinnamon, Christmas cake, camphor, petrol, lemongrass, Belgian chocolate and butter. Incredibly complex and rich, sweet, balanced and smooth in the palate, it is both very sweet and somehow salty, and with time it develops a black olive note. It combines the texture of the 1962 and the elegance of the 1949. It is as decadent as it gets. 825 bottles were produced.” - Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate

Lot #42
I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 2010 Harlan Estate inch closer to perfection over the next decade. Surprisingly supple for this vintage, while this cuvée is not usually that flamboyant or exuberant in its youth, the 2010 is sensual and performing remarkably well. Its deep purple color is accompanied by notions of charcoal, graphite, camphor, creme de cassis, barbecue smoke and blackberries. As usual, this complex effort reminds me of a hypothetical a great Pauillac and Graves (such as La Mission Haut-Brion)...a prodigious, multidimensional, compelling wine. - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

1982 Château Mouton Rothschild
1. 1 982 Château Mouton Rothschild, 750ml Rated 100 by Robert Parker
This wine remains one of the legends of bordeaux. It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during the first 25 years of its life, and has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box. This is a great and still youthful wine; and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux Châteaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first growth.

Two Rare & Extraordinary Magnums
1. 2012 Cayuse Wallah Wallah Special #4, Walla Walla, 1.5L
This is only the fourth in ten years of this Cristophe Baron limited release. Limited to a few hundred magnums released only to those fortunate enough to be on the Cayuse allocation list, this version is 100% Syrah. Previous versions were granted 94-97 ratings, when the writers could get a hold of a bottle, something they have not recently been capable of doing. Already gone from the secondary retail market, lay this one down in its custom wooden box. You will not be disappointed in ten years. Patience.
2. 2008 Wine to Water Napa Valley Meritage, Montesquieu Winery, 1.5L
From legendary winemakers Bob Levy (of Harlan Estate and BOND) and Martha McClellan (of Sloan and Checkerboard), this is one of only 300 magnums created to raise money to provide clean water to over 12,000 people in Ethiopia’s Dale region. Available only for $1,000 each, $500 from each bottle went directly to Wine to Water. Each bottle, hand-signed and etched, bears as its label one of six photos taken by Wine to Water’s founder Doc Hendley of villagers in the project area. This Meritage is a dark, powerful expression of Cabernet with tons of black current and cassis on the palate, with just the right earthy, spicy complexity offered up by Cab Franc and Merlot.

Chianti Classico Riserva 5L
“The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio opens to a deeply saturated color that is thick and luminous at the same time. In terms of bouquet, this Riserva veers toward the far end of the aromatic spectrum (as far as Chianti Classico is concerned) with dark tones of spice, saddle leather, pressed rose and moist earth. The finish excels in terms of softness and richness. This is a bold and modern wine with soft tannins and rich extract.” - Monica Larner

Case of 2012 Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica (12 btls) 2012 Collestefano Verdicchio di Matelica, 750ml Rated 94 by International Wine Cellar
Knockout aromas of quince, pear, white peach and white flowers are complicated by lemony minerality on the vibrant, captivating nose. Rich and broad on entry, then explosive in the middle palate, saturating the mouth with bright, lively floral and fresh citrus flavors that are intensified by penetrating acidity. Finishes extremely long and creamy-rich,…with lingering white peach and floral flavors. The bright acidity conveys an almost weightless mouthfeel to this seamless, rich, extremely concentrated wine. I think it is probably Italy’s single greatest white wine buy.

From 1946 to 1985, this 14 acre property has been a part of one of the most acclaimed wines of Saint Emilion, Château Angelus. The vineyard is composed of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, of which the location and soils of Daugay makes for very special Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged in 50% in one year old French oak barrels and 50% in stainless steel vats for between 18-20 months. This is consistently one of the over performing Saint Emilion properties.
