Notas de Prensa Champagne Bollinger Bollinger epitomizes what is often referred to as the “British style” of Champagne: full-bodied, powerful and rich, more appropriate at the dinner table than as an aperitif, and dominated by Pinot Noir. The house’s flagship Special Cuvée, which is typically austere on release, features mature notes of toffee and toasted bread due to the fact that a portion of the wine is fermented in cask and to the inclusion of older reserve wines in the blend. Champagne Bollinger Brut Rosé 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Meunier 92 | Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar Pale, bright pink. Expressive aromas of fresh red berries, tangerine and toasty lees, with a suave floral nuance. Deeply pitched but quite energetic, offering pure strawberry and cherry preserve flavors underscored by zesty citrus and mineral notes. Becomes richer and smokier with air and finishes with excellent clarity, thrust and persistence. For such a powerful wine this Champagne is impressively lithe and incisive. 92 | Wine Spectator This floral Champagne offers hints of malt and whole-grain toast, along with flavors of date, spiced plum and dried cherry. This shows fine balance and texture, and a mouthwatering finish of freshly ground spices. Drink now through 2016.
Champagne Bollinger Special Cuvée Brut 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier, with the addition on 5-10% reserve wines 93 | Wine Spectator A lovely, balanced Champagne, with mineral and toast notes accenting flavors of quince, green pear, white peach and verbena. Backed by firm acidity, this shows impressive texture and finesse. Like a mosaic, all the pieces come together to make a beautiful whole. Drink now through 2020. 92 | Wine & Spirits Richness is all in this latest release of Special Cuvée, a complex and supple blend based on red grapes (60 percent pinot noir and 15 percent meunier with the balance in chardonnay). Structured by reserve wines aged in magnum bottles, this wine’s texture unfolds with layers of flavor, from subtle Marcona almond to dark-toned apricot and brighter lemon. It’s creamy, saturated and delicious, balanced for current drinking and built to age.
91 | Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate The NV Brut Special Cuvee is fabulous. Hints of pears, pastry crust and hazelnut lead to an expansive core of fruit. There is plenty of the signature Bollinger oxidative style in this rich, enveloping Champagne. Once again the Special Cuvee is one of the best Champagnes in its price range. This is Lot L114501. Disgorged April 26, 2011. Anticipated 91 | Wine Enthusiast maturity: 2011-2015. Bollinger is of course one of the great names in Beautifully pale in color, this is serious rosé. The Special Cuvee is typically one of my favorite wines in its red cherry and raspberry flavors are tied together by the finest acidity. its price range...Bollinger is unique among Champagne houses in that
Notas de Prensa the reserve wines are all bottled in magnum and with natural cork, a Capo Martino in Ruttaris Silvio Jermann Friuli IGT 2005 huge, labor-intensive effort. 89 | Robert Parker The 2005 Capo Martino is a slender version of this wine. Perfumed 90 | Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar aromatics lead to an expressive core of ripe fruit as this medium-bodied Vivid yellow. Poached pear, singed orange and buttered toast on white opens up in the glass. Today the oak is especially prominent, and the fragrant nose. Broad and fleshy, with very good depth to its ripe I am not sure the wine possesses enough plumpness to provide balance. orchard fruit and honey flavors. A zesty note of citrus pith adds lift and a refreshingly bitter edge to the long, gently toasty finish. This hefty Calera Chardonnay Central Coast 2010 Champagne would probably be better with rich foods than by itself, at 91 | Wine & Spirits least to my taste. (12/ 2011) “Josh Jensen makes this wine from a collection of vineyard sources in Monterey and Santa Clara counties. It’s bright and citrusy with fresh Domaine Mule Blanche Paul Jaboulet Crozes Hermitage 2008 scents of Mandarin orange and lemon, a lusty undertow of smoke 90 | Stephen Tanzer pulling back on all the fruit. Clean and vinous, this is a zesty white for Greenish yellow. The nose is strongly reminiscent of Puligny-Montrachet, pan-roasted sand dabs.” showing scents of orange, lemon rind, white flowers and smoky lees, along with a strong mineral undertone. Racy citrus flavors give way to Clos Pegase Mitsuko’s Vineyard Chardonnay Carneros Napa Valley 2010 deeper orchard fruit and candied floral qualities in the middle palate, 91 | Wine & Spirits with a subtle smokiness adding complexity. The finish is tightly focused “Intense and richly flavored, with a mix of ripe fig, honeydew melon and impressively persistent, especially for the vintage. and floral scents. Raw in texture, but should smooth out. Snappy, wellbalanced and complex on the finish. Drink now through 2018. Isole e Olena Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2008 92 | Robert Parker Frog’s Leap Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2011 The 2008 Chardonnay Collezione De Marchi is a model of elegance This is a dry wine of substantial scale that carries itself well, as it retains and crystalline purity. Clean, mineral notes frame varietal fruit in this a delicacy to complement food, not overwhelm. The alcohol is kept low, subdued Chardonnay. This graceful, elegant white seems to have more the acidity high, and the flavors crisp and refreshing. Just released. No than enough stuffing to develop nicely over the next few years. I would ratings available yet but this label consistently scores 90+. be tempted to cellar a few bottles beyond that. Isole e Olena seems to fly under the radar, but insiders know better. Proprietor Paolo De Marchi crafts some of the most engaging wines in all of Tuscany, and Italy for that matter. Drink until 2018.
Notas de Prensa Silverado Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2009 91 | Wine Enthusiast “The 2009 vintage was a great one for this bottling, which was too sweet in 2008. This one’s more like the ’05, only richer and better. It feels nice and crisp and dry, with polished, complex citrus fruit, white flower, peach and mineral flavors. Editors’ Choice “ Eroica Riesling Columbia Valley 2010 “Eroica has put on racing stripes for the 2010 - a lean vintage with scents of lime and lemon, revealing a mineral spine from the aroma straight through to the finish. After a day the structure lengthens a bit and the flavors relax into lemon from lime, but the wine still has plenty of drive. Built for the cellar.” 93 | Cellar Selection | Wine & Spirits Eroica has a proven ability to age; in fact it needs at least a half decade in the cellar to show its real strengths. Tight and packed with primary fruit flavors of lime and peach, this beautifully proportioned wine has perceptible sweetness but plenty of natural acidity. Lively and fresh today, but best given a few more years in the cellar.
Deumayén Trez Malbec Reserva Mendoza 2007 92 | Robert Parker “Bodegas Deumayen’s 2007 Trez Reserva Malbec was aged in 33% new French oak for 12-14 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up an alluring nose of spice box, mineral, smoke, and black cherry. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, it is mouth-coating, savory, and concentrated. Give it 2-3 years to fully blossom and drink it from 2012 to 2022.” Iscay Merlot Malbec by Trapiche Mendoza 2006 50% Merlot, 50% Malbec Iscay means “two” in Quechuan and highlights the concept thought behind this wine: two varietals, two vineyards, two people, Trapiche’s main winemaker Daniel Pi and Viticulturist Marcelo Belmonte, who worked together to conceive this unique Argentinian wine. The Malbec contributes its deep red violet color with mature plum notes and generous tannis. The Merlots provides finesse and complexity with black fruits, spices and cassis notes. The blend during one year and a half in new oak barrels completes a remarkable amalgam of flavors.
Manos Malbec by Trapiche Mendoza 2004 92 | Wine Enthusiast 91 | Wine Enthusiast The 2010 Eroica Riesling had just been bottled when I tasted it. The palate is very healthy, juicy, rich and big, but the flavors of dark berry fruit are subtle and smooth. Chunky, sweet and ripe on the finish.” Elderton Estate Shiraz Barossa Valley 2008 91 | Stephen Tanzer “Bright purple. Intensely perfumed nose displays fresh blackberry, lavender, star anise and vanillin oak. Bright and fresh on entry, with lively acidity giving lift and spine to the black and blue fruit flavors. Finishes long and sappy, with lingering smokiness and excellent clarity.” Miguel Torres Conde de Superunda Curicó Valley 2004 92 | Wine Spectator “This has character, delivering powerful currant paste, braised fig and hoisin sauce flavors laced with notes of charcoal, tobacco and hot stone. Offers a strong graphite edge on the finish too, which has some toast to shed. Dense and powerful. Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Monastrell and Tempranillo. Best from 2011 through 2014.”
Chateau Teyssier St Emilion 2007 87 | Robert Parker “Fresh, medium-bodied, earthy flavors redolent of notes of cherries, black currants, and loamy soil emerge from this elegant, charming, round 2007. Drink until 2017.” Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny Borgogne 2009 90 | Robert Parker “From their estate’s usual far-flung assemblage of crus. I did not taste this year’s dedicated bottling from Les Baudes), Drouhin’s 2008 ChambolleMusigny 1er Cru boasts ripe, fresh cherry and strawberry tinged with cinnamon and smoky black tea, suggestions of leather and forest floor becoming more prominent as part of a satisfyingly long, spicy, sweetlyfruited finish. I would anticipate at least 7-9 years of interest here, but there looks to be no risk in enjoying some young, too.” Louis Latour Volnay “En Chevret” 1er Cru Borgogne 2009 Intense dark ruby red with a mouth-watering bouquet of plums, strawberries, liquorice and peppermint this Volnay 1er Cru is attractively long on the finish with some tannins which still need smoothening out. 92 | Wine Spectator This red has some flesh to its bones, with flavors of black cherry, raspberry, peppery spice and mineral. Viña Santa Rita Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Valley 2007 92 | Robert Parker The 2007 Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon (100%) spent 15 months in 95% new French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. 88 | Wine Spectator “Medium-bodied, with blackberry and floral flavors galore and a good 90 | Wine & Spirits amount of jammy fruit. Fresh with a medium fruity finish.” The fine perfume of Sangiovese carries through this wine accentuating the initial tart cherry scent and the cherry tomato bite of the finish. 88 | Wine Enthusiast There’s ferrous, mineral-inflected tannin to keep it focused. An elegant “Castello Banfi’s bright and fruit-forward Rosso di Montalcino would wine on a small scale, this is ready to drink with pasta in a pork ragu. make a perfect match to grilled lamb chops or roast pork. Notas de Prensa Pesquera Reserva Alejandro Fernández Ribera del Duero 2007 91 | Robert Parker “The 2007 Pesquera Reserva offers up a more complex aromatic array of balsam wood, espresso, lavender, incense, exotic spices, and assorted black fruits. Savory, ripe, and flavorful, it is in need of a bit more concentration, likely the result of the vintage. It will benefit from another 1-2 years of cellaring and drink well through 2022.”
92 | Wine Enthusaist “Melis is a project backed by industry folks from California, but this blend of old-vines Grenache along with Carignan, Syrah and Caberenet Sauvignon is very European. It’s heady but well balanced, with smooth edges and not too much fiery attitude, roughness or scratchy tannins. It’s forward and big-boned, but there’s enough creamy richness to make it friendly. Needs plenty of air time now; should hold well for five-plus years.” (04/09) 91 points Wine & Sprits: “Balanced at the heights of 90 Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar superripeness, this wine tastes of figs and chestnuts, of the warmnth of Ruby-red. Wine Trios Callej贸n del Crimen Gran Reserva, Finca La Luz, Mendoza 2008 Malbec Gran Reserva | 92 Robert Parker The 2008 Callejon del Crimen Malbec Gran Reserva exhibits a similar personality with loads of black cherry fruit and a sense of elegance. It, too, will evolve for several years and drink well through 2023. The Finca La Luz wines, each 100% varietal, are outstanding. Sangiovese Gran Reserva | 90 Robert Parker The 2008 Callejon del Crimen Sangiovese Gran Reserva, just by the nature of its varietal, is a more restrained offering. Smoky cherries and spice notes lead to a medium-bodied, savory Sangiovese with excellent depth and length. It should drink well for another 6-8 years. The Finca La Luz wines, each 100% varietal, are outstanding. Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva | 91 Robert Parker The 2008 Callejon del Crimen Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva sports an enticing bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, violets, cassis, and black currant. In the glass it is medium-bodied with a Bordeaux-like personality, good depth of flavor, impeccable balance, and 3-4 years of aging potential. Wine Trios Pulenta Estates Series Grandes Vinos 2008 Gran Corte 93 | Robert Parker The 2008 Gran Corte is composed of 43% Malbec, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Merlot and Petit Verdot fermented and raised in French oak. Notions of sandalwood, Asian spices, incense, espresso, black cherry and blackberry lead to an incipiently complex, plush, layered wine with outstanding grip and volume. It conceals enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years and offers a drinking window extending from 2014 to 2023, perhaps longer. Gran Malbec 91 | Wine Enthusiast Tight and deep, with leather, dried cheese and full berry aromas. The palate is jammy and lush in feel, with roasted, mile-deep berry and licorice flavors. A fine Malbec that’s easy to drink and black in style; the finish runs long and solid as berry fruit and toasty oak hold court. Gran Cabernet Franc Simon Field | Master of Wine 100% Cabernet Franc from the precipitous and wonderfully picturesque vineyards (perched at 980 metres above sea-level) of Alto Agrelo in the famous Mendoza region of Argentina. The wine is aged for 12 months in new French barrels after a lengthy maceration. Beyond and beneath an impressive purple colour and ripe hedgerow aromas, the wine fascinates on the palate, with a distant evocation of the Loire Valley (courtesy of this elegant varietal) but with a New World twist. Very fine tannins hold the structure together with great elegance.
Wine Trios The Colonial Estate Emigre Vertical The Colonial Estate Emigre Barossa Valley 2004 94 | Robert Parker The 2004 Emigre, a Rhone-based blend of Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvedre as well as Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon, exhibits a sweet perfume of graphite, black fruits, sweet cherries, licorice, smoke, and background vanillin. Full-bodied, rich, textured, and impressively long, it should drink well for 1015 years... minimum. The Colonial Estate Emigre Barossa Valley 2005 94 | Robert Parker “There are 2000 cases of 2005 Emigre, a blend of six grape varieties sourced from a range of Barossa sites designed to reflect a “palate” of the Valley. The blocks were cropped at 1 ton of fruit per acre. The composition of the blend is 30% Shiraz, 30% Grenache, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Mourvedre, with the balance Carignan and Muscadelle. The wine was aged from 18-20 months in new French oak. It offers a complex aromatic array of smoky oak, damp earth, pencil lead, clove, pepper, cassis, and blueberry. Supple-textured and very intense, the wine exhibits spicy red and black fruits, with hints of mint and chocolate in the background. It is layered, opulent, and long while maintaining its elegant personality. Give it 5-7 years in the cellar and drink it through 2025. “ The Colonial Estate Emigre Barossa Valley 2006 92 | Robert Parker “The Colonial Estate’s two flagship wines come from their own property. The 2006 Emigre is a blend of four vineyards and six grape varieties (Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, and Muscadelle) with yields less than one ton per acre. The complex aromas include smoke, underbrush, mineral, espresso, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur. This is followed by a full-bodied, layered, concentrated wine with spicy, savory flavors, good depth, and several years of aging potential. Drink it from 2012 to 2025. “

It should evolve for another 3-4 years and drink well through 2020. Condado de Haza Alejandro Fernández Ribera del Duero 2007 92 | Wine & Spirits Condado de Haza, part of the Pesquera group, focuses its production on a hillside vineyard of gravel and limestone, planted towards the end of the 1980’s by Alejandro Fernández. The vines tend to give wines of great concentration and aging potential — like this intense Tempranillo with mineral aromas and surprisingly fresh cherry scents. The delicious fruit bathes in tannins as firm as steel. Give this five years in the cellar for that structure to mellow.
