DOG OBEDIENCE Puppy Class is designed to provide a positive environment for socialization of puppies to a wide variety of people as well as to each other. Early socialization has been shown to greatly reduce the incidence of both human and dog directed aggression, as well as anxiety and fear based behavior problems. Additional topics will be discussed such as addressing the common puppy issues of house training, mouthing, leadership and preventing behavior problems. Puppies will also learn to sit and begin recall training (coming when called). This class is appropriate for puppies ages two–four months old. Dogs must have received at least two rounds of vaccinations prior to attending. If your dog has not yet received the second round, please plan to attend class without your puppy until the second round of vaccination has been administered.
Creative Paws Creative Paws uses positive reinforcement training methods to improve the relationship between dog and handler by providing an effective means of communication and understanding as the foundation for learning. We believe that training your dog should be enjoyable for both you and your dog! Creative Paws, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Ashlee Trotter, BS, CPDT-KA, and provides group classes and private lessons for dog obedience training and behavior problems. Ashlee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Michigan State University. Prior to pursuing her dog training interests she honed her skills of positive reinforcement training while working with zoo animals at facilities in the Midwest. She has been recognized for several years as a Canine Good Citizen evaluator by the American Kennel Club, as well as a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) by the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers, an affiliate organization of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and the first organization to offer a national standard for trainer certification.
Ashlee’s competition dog Spirit is the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) number one ranked German Wirehaired Pointer in agility for 2008–2012. He is the second of his breed to earn an AKC Master Agility Championship title, as well as the only German Wirehaired Pointer to reach the finals of an AKC National Agility event, a feat Ashlee has handled him to accomplish twice. Michael “The Dog Guru” Jayko With 25 years of dog training experience, Michael has witnessed and worked with almost every aspect in the field of dog behavior including competition obedience, agility, tracking, scent discrimination, police dogs, behavior modification, diabetic alert dogs and guide dog training. With a Bachelor’s Degree in the Applied Behavioral Sciences, Michael combines human and dog psyches to create a successful bond between dog and handler.

As a member of the Winnetka-Northfield community Michael also gives dog safety talks to local schools as well as Boy and Girl Scout troops.

Michael “The Dog Guru” Jayko For dogs aged eight weeks–six months. Learn how to help transition your dog from being a sweet puppy to the faithful dog you have always wanted. This class will teach you the reasoning behind a puppy’s thought process as well as the prevention of and response to unwanted behavior. You will learn the techniques of using body language to communicate to your puppy what is and is not acceptable. Other essential how-tos will be provided such as basic grooming, simple, commands and vet visits.
Michael “The Dog Guru” Jayko For dogs of all ages. You may have heard the expression “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” This class will show you that there is always hope of teaching your dog new tricks, it just requires forming some new habits. Learn the basic commands of sit, down, stay, heel and come. Solve some of the common issues or problems that you have with your dog. This class will teach you how to effectively train your dog while maintaining your lifestyle. If you begin to think like your dog and understand the proper communication, your dog will eventually become an extension of you.
Michael “The Dog Guru” Jayko For dogs of all ages that are well behaved off-leash. This class is mainly for fun and exercise with your dog. Mellow out your high-energy dog on walks with the extra workout techniques. Agility training can also help the more insecure dogs build confidence through learning how to overcome things that might seem scary (obstacles, jumps, etc.). Not only is this class a great form of physical activity but it also builds trust between you and your dog as you are there to assure them through obstacles. Almost everything taught in the agility class can be easily translated to your daily walks.
Teaching your puppy should not be timeconsuming or painful, this class will teach you the best ways to train your dog while still living your life. Beginning the socialization process during puppyhood ensures that your dog will more likely grow to be well adjusted and highly adaptable to other dogs, people, and situations. The show starts off with a 15–20 minute child-friendly magical performance including many opportunities for the children to help with the tricks. After the magic show our performer will lead guests in games, age appropriate music, television trivia and many fun dances to great music. Ages: 5–12 $295 for 20 guests. $5 for each additional child. GRAFFITI PAINTING Have fun painting on a canvas to create your own graffiti masterpiece using stencils, tape resist, stamping, dripping and brushing. At the end of this party children will have a colorful and exciting piece of art that is ready to take home and hang on the wall. One hour of instruction, paint and painting supplies are included in the cost. Blank canvases are additional. Dress for a mess or bring a smock. Max=20 guests TREASURE BOXES Guests use a variety of materials such as cloth, buttons, foam, ribbons, letters, stamps and markers to decorate the inside and outside of your own unique keepsake box. Max=20 guests CLAY ANIMALS Using multi-color modeling clay, we will create tiny animals along with their habitats or nests. REGISTRATION INFORMATION Member registration opens March 11, 2013 and will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Membership does not guarantee placement in a class. All non-members will be able to register March 18, 2013. Registration received through the mail, fax, or in person will be processed by 5:00 p.m. the next business day. The best way to ensure that your registration is processed immediately is by using our online registration at winnetkacommunityhouse.org
Membership Information Early registration: Members are eligible to register for all classes one week prior to the start of seasonal registration. Early registration can be done via the web at winnetkacommunityhouse.org, fax or in person at Winnetka Community House. Please note: early registration does not guarantee a spot in a class. All family members in your household are eligible for membership benefits. When registering for membership, just list your family members, and they will be included for the program registration benefits automatically when registering for classes. Members receive a notice about one month prior to the expiration, so the membership can be renewed for the next year. Refunds for memberships will not be available.
How To Register • To register for a membership simply list all eligible members on the registration form. Then check the box and add the membership fee in with your registration. • Register for programs online at winnetkacommunityhouse.org or on the enclosed registration form. • Please print clearly. • Read and fill out form completely. • By listing your email address, you agree to receive email communications from Winnetka Community House. We will never sell your address, but love to keep in touch with our users to give news about programs, events, and special offers from Winnetka Community House. If you do not wish to receive these emails, please unsubscribe. • Sign the registration form. • Unsigned forms will not be processed, but will be returned to you. This will delay processing your registration. • Registration forms may be mailed or faxed. Registration by telephone is not accepted.
Credit Cards You may use your credit card for all programs which appear with a class number or for a Fitness Centre membership. Fitness Centre memberships are obtained at the Fitness Centre only. Be sure to fill out the credit card information completely and sign the form. We do not take telephone registration. However, if you are paying by credit card, you may fax your registration to (847) 446-0609.
Cancellation of Classes Prior to any class, registration is reviewed to determine if the enrollment is sufficient to hold the class. Register early! Do not wait until the day of the first class to register. You may find the class has been cancelled due to low enrollment.
Refund Policy Full refunds will be issued for courses that are cancelled by Winnetka Community House due to insufficient registration. A refund, less a 10% service charge (not to exceed $25), may be granted if the refund request is received five full working days prior to the start of the program. No refunds will be allowed after this time unless a medical condition develops and a written explanation from a physician on his/her letterhead is presented. Due to advanced reservation requirements, no refunds for trips, outings or special events will be given.
Prorated Policy Classes may be prorated if you would like to enroll in a class after it has started, provided the instructor has space and allows for late registration. The supervisor must approve the prorated amount.
Inclement Weather Winnetka Community House will not hold classes on days when the Winnetka Public Schools have cancelled classes due to inclement weather.
Religious Holidays Winnetka Community House makes every effort to avoid scheduling programs or events on religious holidays. STEPHEN DUSTMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Winnetka Community House has established the Stephen Dustman Memorial Scholarship Fund to any resident who would like to take part in a Winnetka Community House activity, but is unable to render full payment. Persons interested may submit their need in writing to the attention of the Executive Director for confidential review. If further information is desired, please call our main office. Winnetka Community House is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, and holds the safety of the participants in the highest possible regard. Participants and parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize, however, that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreation activities. Winnetka Community House continually strives to reduce such risks, and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions which have been designed to protect the participants’ safety. Please recognize that Winnetka Community House does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained in its programs. The cost of such would make program fees prohibitive. Therefore, each person registering himself\herself or a family member for a recreation program/activity should review his/her own health insurance policy for coverage. It must be noted that the absence of health insurance coverage does not make Winnetka Community House automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses. Due to the difficulty and high cost of obtaining liability insurance, the agency providing liability coverage for Winnetka Community House requires the execution of the following Waiver and Release. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Please read this form carefully, and be aware in participating in the program(s) listed on this page, you will be waiving and releasing all claims for injuries you might sustain arising out of the activities of this program. WA I V ER A N D RE L E A S E O F ALL CLAIMS As a participant in the program, I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury, and I agree to assume the full risk of any injuries, including death, damages or loss, regardless of severity, which I may sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with or associated with such program. I agree to waive and relinquish all claims I may have as a result of participating in the program against Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees. I do hereby fully release and discharge Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damages or loss which I may have or which may accrue to me on account of my participation. I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless and defend Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damages or losses sustained by me or arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with the activities of the program. In the event of emergency, I authorize Winnetka Community House officials to secure from any licensed hospital, physician, and/or medical personnel any treatment deemed necessary for my immediate care, and agree that I will be responsible for payment of any and all medical services required. All participants agree that any photography taken while participating in a class, special event or use of a facility may be used for promotional purposes Winnetka Community House. Participants agree to receive emails from Winnetka Community House. R EF U ND A N D P RO RAT E I N FOR MAT ION Full refunds will be issued for courses that are cancelled by Winnetka Community House due to insufficient registration. A refund, less a 10% service charge (not to exceed $25), may be granted if the refund request is received five full working days prior to the start of the program. No refunds will be allowed after this time unless a medical condition develops and a written explanation from a physician on his/her letterhead is presented. Due to advanced reservation requirements, no refunds for trips, outings, or special events will be given. Classes may be prorated if you would like to enroll in a class after it has started, provided the instructor has space, and allows for late registration. The supervisor must approve the prorated amount.
