SCIENCE CLASSES Kids Science Labs

Amazing Minds

Advanced Chess

Join the hottest critical thinking and problem-solving program in Chicago for an educational adventure. Kids Science Labs has developed innovative hands-on classes for children age two through twelve using our unique inquiry-based LIFES Curriculum (“Learning Innovation, Fun Engineering, and Science”). By engaging children with the hands-on science they love early and with regular frequency year round we help enable a generation of amazing critical thinkers regardless of their future careers. These activity-based classes teach core science principles based on a question that children ask and then use science activities with the guidance of outstanding teachers to explore answers. Our instructors are certified teachers and scientists.

Amazing Minds Make learning fun with this exciting after school program open to all first through third graders who love to learn. Amazing Minds offers a variety of interactive topics that will expand your child’s knowledge of the world and reinforce their academic skills. For example, children may become junior geologists and explore the world of rocks and minerals, investigate owl pellets, find out how to make raisins bounce through scientific experiments, learn about famous landmarks, rare Australian animals, or sharks, whales and dolphins, excavate hidden treasures from an ancient Egyptian tomb or sample ethnic cuisine from China or Italy. Join all the fun exploration in this can’t miss enrichment program. All materials are included. Each session a different country is explored, thus exposing your child to geography as well as different languages and cultures.

Chess Wizards If you feel your child needs more of a challenge, then this class will be the perfect way to expand their knowledge of chess. Children will learn advanced strategies and techniques and classes will focus on preparation for tournaments in the wider chess world. Our class will cover openings, endgames, grandmaster games and competitive psychology. Please note that this class is highly advanced and requires a good base knowledge of chess theory.

Examples of our science fundamentals series include: how Spider-Man walks on walls (pressure and suction), how tape works (adhesives), why bowling pins fall down (momentum) and even projectile motion in a class called Flying Chickens. Each week we address a new question and explore how things work. March 25–June 3 Monday Ages: 4–5 Member: $243 No class: 5/6, 5/27 March 25–June 3 Monday Ages: 6–8 Member: $243 No class: 5/6, 5/27

Winnetka Community House is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, and holds the safety of the participants in the highest possible regard. Participants and parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize, however, that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreation activities. Winnetka Community House continually strives to reduce such risks, and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions which have been designed to protect the participants’ safety. Please recognize that Winnetka Community House does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained in its programs. The cost of such would make program fees prohibitive. Therefore, each person registering himself\herself or a family member for a recreation program/activity should review his/her own health insurance policy for coverage. It must be noted that the absence of health insurance coverage does not make Winnetka Community House automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses. Due to the difficulty and high cost of obtaining liability insurance, the agency providing liability coverage for Winnetka Community House requires the execution of the following Waiver and Release. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. I agree to waive and relinquish all claims I may have as a result of participating in the program against Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees. I do hereby fully release and discharge Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damages or loss which I may have or which may accrue to me on account of my participation. I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless and defend Winnetka Community House and its officers, agents, servants and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damages or losses sustained by me or arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with the activities of the program.
