Tell Your Story! Blogging Basics… STOP Being Boring | Why Your Story Is The Best Story To Tell by Gary Miller |
Tell Your Story By Asking Does My Writing Add Real Value? Let me throw something out here to start.
Just because you can blog every day doesn’t mean that you should if all you’re publishing is noise. Value to your readers comes in different ways. Value doesn’t mean we have to write two thousand word posts which take on deep life changing topics. For example, a very common need of readers is entertainment. Why do you think videos always do so well as part of blog posts? Most of the time, they entertain. Videos tell a story. They may tell your story which
is probably a story similar to those who are reading and watching. This is where connection begins. Connection begins when you tell your story. Another way to think about value is to remember, people are looking for answers to questions. Ask yourself, did I answer any real questions? Think about it this way. If you tell your story will it answer your readers questions? The answer will normally be yes! Here’s a hint about real questions… Don’t just depend on the Google keyword tool for this. What are real people, in your real life, talking about in your world? In the internet marketing space that I live in much of the time this is something that gets lost. We lock into a handful of topics and then spin them a hundred different ways and call that content. Spoiler alert, that’s not adding value. Is anyone in your real life really asking about back-linking strategies or SEO? Probably not. Should we write about that stuff? Sure, but should it be a constant focus to reach and connect with a larger audience? Do you tell your story to the world when you’re fixated on the same topics that let’s face it, most people could care less about? Nothing cures reader boredom like when you tell your story.
Blogging For Beginners… Tell Your Story and Build Relationships I like to avoid catch phrases but this one really fits here. There’s only one you! Share you with the world.
All of us are so much more interesting than what we spend much of our time writing about. Remember, you’re not everyone else. Stop trying to write like them! What’s going on in your life right now that is unique, challenging, frustrating, or great? Tell your story. You can be highly optimized for traffic and still tell your story.
Even if we polish up a garbage blog post, it’s still a garbage post no matter where it ranks in Google. Remember… Readers are the final authority on what’s good and what sucks, not the search results. When you tell your story readers connect with you. Connection keeps them coming back. Connection motivates them to share your message with others. Connection will lead them to buy your products because they know, like, and trust you. It all begins with your willingness to tell your story. Think about the most valuable relationships in your life. Are they intimate because you keep talking about the same things over and over again? Or is it because you share your most personal thoughts and feelings? To tell your story doesn’t require a frustrating slog up hill. Every time you sit down at the blank page you are getting ready to add great value into the world. You’re a difference maker not a content recycler. Tell your story. It’s the most original and exciting content you have because no one can tell it like you.
