ABOUT ME:

Great design is achieved when the thinking goes from “why” to “why not”. I believe design is the problem solving tool used to improve and enrich our environment. I have found myself drawn to design my whole life but it has taken me more than a decade to piece it to together and come to this realisation. Throughout my education, I have been drawn to various disciplines ranging from languages, maths, philosophy, psychology and design. What others see in my seemingly haphazard educational background, I see as my strength. I believe design is seeing the bigger picture and drawing from many bodies of knowledge. My design career thus far has illustrated this. This portfolio is an eclectic arrangement of projects that I have completed in the past. It is as diverse as my interests. However, in all of the projects, I have sought out the underlying problems and developed holistic solutions to broach these issues. Turning problems to opportunities.

TANK STREAM RESEVOIR IN A SHORT SPACE OF TIME, THE IDENTITY OF THE CITY HAS COME INTO QUESTION. COVID-19 HAS PROMPTED AN EXODUS FROM THE CITY. THE ECONOMIC ENGINE OF SYDNEY’S CBD HAS GRINDED TO A HALT. HAILING AN IRREVOCABLE SHIFT IN OUR WAY OF LIVING. HOWEVER, WITHIN THE NEXT 50-100 YEARS, THE CITY WILL UNDERGO EVEN GREATER TRANSFORMATIONS. BY 2100, AIR TEMPERATURE RISES TO 4.8% ABOVE THE GLOBAL AVERAGE. LEADING TO MORE BUSHFIRES AND POLLUTION. THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE NEED FOR THE CITY TO TRANSITION INTO A MORE HABITABLE AND SELF-SUSTAINING MODEL.

A MODEL THAT FOSTERS NATURE RATHER THAN SUPRESS IT. THE “TANK STREAM RESEVOIR” IS AN OASIS - A SANCTUARY AMIDST THE CHAOS OF THE CITY. THE PROJECT PAYS AMIDST THE CHAOS OF THE CITY. THE PROJECT PAYS HOMAGE TO THE TANK STREAM - A HERITAGE INFRASTRUCTURE LYING UNDERNEATH THE CITY. THE PROPOSAL IS SET IN 2100 WHEN THE GPO (LIKE THE REST OF THE CBD) ARE ARTIFACTS OF A CIVILISATION. ITS FUNCTION THEREFORE RETROFITTED TO BE A MARKER OF THE OASIS OF THE TANK STREAM RESEVOIR.

Site Plan of Sydney

Heritage of Tank Stream Tank Stream was a fresh water souce for First Nation Peoples, precolonisation. The stream then was converted to a sewer and then finally a storm-water drain. It has largely been forgotton in modern times. The stream spans upsteam from Circular Quay to Hyde park - wherein a reservoir once existed.

GRAD SHOW 2018 THE GRAD EXHIBITION SIGNIFIES THE FINAL STUDIO PROJECTS OF THE GRADUATING MASTERS AND BACHELORS STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY. THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE GRADUATE EXHIBITION IS OFFERED AS AN ELECTIVE TO THE COHORT OF DESIGN STUDENTS. IN MY FINAL YEAR OF MY BACHELOR STUDIES, I JOINED THE DESIGN TEAM OF THE USYD GRAD SHOW AS THE DESIGN LEAD OF THE EXHIBITION. IN A TEAM OF 4, WE CONCEPTUALISED AND DETAILED THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE THEME OF THE EXHIBIT.

THE THEME REVOLVED AROUND THE ERGONOMIC DISPLAY OF PROJECTS AND THE FLOW OF MOVEMENT IN THE SPACE. THE UNIVERSITY TYPICALLY DRAWS CROWDS UP TO 3000 INDIVIDUALS ON THE OPENING NIGHT AND THE LAYOUT AND SPACING OF THE INSTALLATIONS ENCOURAGED FLUID MOVEMENT AND REDUCED BOTTLENECKS THAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED OTHERWISE. THE PANELS WERE DOUBLE SIDED AND HUNG ON A ALUMINIUM ROD THAT SPANNED THE ROOM. FEATURED AT EYE LEVEL TO THE VISITORS AND IN THE PERIPHERY TO ENCOURAGE A WANDERING CURIOSITY DOWN THE EXHIBITION AISLES.

SALISBURY HOUSE IS A DESIGN FOR A YOUNG FAMILY OF 4 IN SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES. THE BRIEF OF THE PROJECT WAS TO CREATE A COSY SPACE THAT BLENDS INTO ITS LEAFY SURROUNDINGS AND INSPIRES “MOMENTS OF CONTEMPLATION” IN DAILY LIVING. THE DESIGN IS PREDOMINATELY DARK TIMBER CLADDING REMINISCENT OF SCANDINAVIAN ARCHITECTURE. THE WARMTH OF THE WOODEN STRUCTURE ASSIMILATES ITSELF INTO THE VERNACULAR OF THE AREA. COMPLEMENTING THE LARGE OAK TREES FOUND IN THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE HOUSE.
