DEMAND FOR STANDALONE GENSETS LIKELY TO INCREASE IN IRAN AS IRAN LEGISLATURE SAYS ‘THEY ARE NOW OK’ According to new rules in Iran regulated companies which mine cryptocurrency in Iran will receive green energy. Tehran’s Ministry of Energy has passed new rules which allow factories which use renewable energy to generate electricity to supply electricity to coin minting companies that operate in accordance with the law. “Legal miners can reach agreements with renewable energy power plants on negotiable terms and rates,” comments Mohammad Khodadadi, the project leader at Tabanil, the department in charge of the mining industry. He also emphasized that the Ministry of Energy will play a role in determining the exact tariffs. Iran’s power generation, distribution and transmission company Tavanir is the country’s stateowned utility company which had been authorised or order miners to unplug their equipment. As energy demand increases as temperatures drop, this measure is part of an effort to prevent power outages. Tavanir spokesperson Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said that the Ministry of Energy has been working hard to reduce the use of liquid fuels for power generation in recent months. The closure of licensed crypto farms is one of a series of measures aimed at avoiding power shortages. Iran legalized Bitcoin mining in 2019 and introduced a licensing system for entities engaged in the industry.

Studies by Transparency MarketResearch.com suggest that the diesel generator market in telecom industry - in the Middle East & North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia & Australia - will boom. This was valued at US$ 159M in 2018 and is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 6% right up to 2027. Based on power rating, the up to 20 kVA segment dominated the diesel generator market in telecom industry in Middle East & North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia & Australia in 2018, says TMR. Rise in demand for specific uninterrupted and reliable power supply to telecom towers during power outage is anticipated to

boost the segment during the forecast period. This, in turn, is estimated to increase diesel generator market demand. In terms of type, the stationary generator segment formed a major part of diesel generator market in the telecom industry in Middle East & North Africa. This was primarily due - says the market reserach company to the increase in investments in the installation of telecom towers in remote areas in these regions. This dominance is projected to boost the diesel generator market in the telecom industry generally between 2022-27. The standby segment also held a significant share of the diesel generator market in telecoms. industry, says TMR.

he Saiham Group in Bangladesh is a yarn manufacturer which operates two spinning factories including Saiham Cotton Mills Ltd., one of Bangladesh’s largest industrial cotton

mills. For more than ten years, the plant that supplies energy to the cotton yarn production was equipped with nine gensets with a total output of 9 MW. In 2017, Saiham Group decided to replace the previous generator sets with one MWM TCG 2020 V16K and six MWM TCG 2020 V20 generator sets. Saiham Cotton Mills Ltd. manufactures auto-coned, electronically-cleared, carded, and combed cotton yarn. The production capacity amounts to 15,480,000 kg of yarn/year from 82,080 spindles. The new generator sets were installed by MWM distributor Kaltimex Energy Bangladesh (Pvt.) Ltd and deliver 13.5 MW, i.e. 4.5 MW more energy, from the same amount of gas. The MWM generator sets now supply a new system with 7,056 additional spindles with energy. The Saiham Group’s decision to modernise the factory’s power supply with MWM gas generator sets was based on one and a half years of intensive research, which had revealed these engines’ high performance and good service offering. The 13.5-MW power plant with MWM gas gensets also assists the Saiham Group in covering the global demands of textile manufacturers.

Leading manufacturer of motorbikes and scooters in India relies on MWM For more than ten years, the largest manufacturer of motorbikes and scooters in India, Hero MotoCorp, has relied on the generator sets of the TCG 2020 series. The Indian MWM service partner Green Power International Pvt. Ltd installed six TCG 2020 V20 gas generator sets for the large motorcycle and scooter manufacturer Hero MotoCorp. The gensets were commissioned in the years from 2010 to 2012. Three of the six gas gensets were installed in the Hero MotoCorp factory in Gurgaon, and the other three in the factory in Dharuhera, Haryana. The MWM gas generator sets operate in island mode, supplying the two factories with electricity for the production of motorcycles and scooters. The generator sets are designed for parallel operation and island-mode operation and boast a high degree of efficiency. If no public power supply grid is available or if it is subject to frequent outages, island-mode operation is a more suitable solution. As the local laws do not permit Hero MotoCorp to implement parallel operation, the challenge posed by fluctuating loads could only be tackled by way of island-mode operation in the factories. The MWM TCG 2020 V20 gas generator sets produce a total of 12 MW of

power (6 MW per plant). The power continually supplied is used for the production of about 7.6 million motorcycles a year. All six installed MWM gas generator sets of Hero MotoCorp have completed more than 50,000 operating hours per engine. The gensets continually supply the production facilities of the two factories with power. Uninterrupted power supply is vital especially in the field of industrial production. Especially companies such as food manufacturers and manufacturers of highly sensitive components depend on uninterrupted power supply and are severely affected by power outages. The operation of a cogeneration power plant that is designed for island-mode operation ensures secure, reliable, and uninterrupted power supply and enables use of the engine exhaust heat for heating and cooling purposes. Recently, Green Power International Pvt. Ltd successfully completed the scheduled E-70 maintenance (major overhaul) of one of the gensets at Hero MotoCorp’s Dharuhera site. Within the scope of the maintenance, Green Power International Pvt. Ltd disassembled the engine block, replaced the main bearings, and measured the crankshaft. Since the go-live of the gas genset system, Green Power has ensured the customer service and support, including spare part supply and plant maintenance. www.mwm.net

THE COMPLETE PACKAGE: ADDING VALUE WITH INTEGRATED GENSET SOLUTIONS

A

s a global manufacturer with more than 75 years of experience in the alternator industry, Mecc Alte has become adept at spotting powergen trends. The latest trend is towards meeting power demands by providing an integrated package that allows its clients to fit the increasingly complex requirements of the application. “Power generation is becoming much more about complete solutions than products,” says Mecc Alte’s Sales and Marketing Director, Jonathan Stokes. “We’re creating value by supplying Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with alternators, controllers, battery chargers and governors required for their generators. The result: an integrated solution that very closely matches the unique demands of each and every power requirement.” The company’s independent status has won it a great deal of trust from the power community over the years. “We’ve never built complete gen sets, so people know that we’re not in competition with them” says Jonathan. “As a result we’ve earned our reputation as a trusted advisor. When clients come to us with a problem, we provide a straightforward – and sometimes very innovative – answer.” The recognition of a growing demand from the market for more integrated, packaged solutions has led to the development of a number of new products that make it easier to meet the need. A totally new, fully integrated Digital CANbus Series solution – SMART Link - integrates power management and monitoring into a single platform. When it’s paired with a Mecc Alte digital alternator and a Mecc Alte controller, the results are impressive. “By providing simple safe access to all essential genset components, we enable true digital regulation and real time measurement, as well as smart diagnostics, rapid setting via the controller, and enhanced safety – all in one human-machine interface or HMI,” says Jonathan. A flurry of other new products are being launched by the company that are also designed to be easily integrated into complete solutions for OEMs. The next generation of the company’s highly successful C-Type series consists of two new models – the ECP4 and ECP30, adding to a range which is designed to deliver a high power to size ratio. As with all C-Type alternators, the new models benefit from Mecc Alte MAUX (Mecc Alte Auxillary Winding System) installed as standard. This power boost facility enables every C-Type alternator to take an overload of

NEW GENSETS PROVIDE POWER FOR SAUDI ARABIAN MUNICIPALITY

T

he Saudi Arabian government has purchased two Baudouin-powered diesel gensets to provide power for their municipal buildings in the town of Al Quoz. The 6M16 PowerKit units have been purchased through Almajd Power, a local OEM partner, with the contract signed late 2021. A spokesman for Baudouin commented, “Thanks to our partner Almajd Power, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs can now rely on our two 6M16 Baudouin PowerKit engines to assure the supply of power”. It’s another success in the Middle East for Baudouin, the European engine manufacturer founded in France more than 100 years ago. The company already has a proven track record in the region, with Baudouin PowerKit engines widely used to support critical applications such as hospitals and datacenters, but also to provide power for mining, construction and agriculture. To lead the market, Baudouin developed a comprehensive range of high horsepower (HHP) engines with the PowerKit M33 and M55 platforms that span 1150-4125 kVA. Robust and reliable, the M55 series utilises premium engineering for exceptional performance, thanks to Baudouin’s unique technologies. It also offers the highest power density in its class, through highly efficient combustion and high-pressure ratio turbochargers. Overall, these Baudouin PowerKit engines provide exceptional cost efficiency, with extended mean time between overhauls (MTBO).

The high-horsepower engines also offer variable duty cycle capabilities and high transient block load capabilities, for uninterrupted power in critical protection situations. Both the M33 and M55 PowerKit series deliver further cost efficiencies with best-in-class fuel consumption and are designed with a high tolerance to varying fuel quality. This is how Baudouin clients can expect to stay up and running, even under the challenging conditions that are sometimes demanded by the operating environment in the Middle East. Over the life of every Baudouin engine, dependability is guaranteed by their strong European quality standards, and access to global service and support. This includes trained partners in the Middle East, who can provide after care and access to genuine spare parts shipped within 24-hours of order. The recent success of Baudouin in Saudi Arabia, and their continued

popularity in this part of the world, show how trusted the company’s engines are to power not just industrial applications, but also hospitals, banks and data centres and other infrastructures essential to the Critical Infrastructure Protection market. More than a century of experience in design, manufacturing, support and quality goes into every PowerKit. “You can expect reliability, durability, excellent total cost of ownership and European quality from every Baudouin PowerKit engine,” explains a company spokesman.

400KVA GENSET SUPPLIED TO THE AL BASHIR HOSPITAL AMMAN, JORDAN

E

MSA has supplied the Al Bashir Hospital in Amman, Jordan, with a BF6M1015CP-LAG Model Deutz Engine/400 kVA diesel generator set. EMSA opened its first factory in Sancaktepe in 1977 to meet the ever-increasing generator and alternator demand in both the domestic and international market. It has been answering the energy needs of the seven main regions of Turkey and exporting its products across the world for some years now. Amman is the capital and largest city of Jordan, and the country’s economic, political, and cultural centre. With a population of 4,536,500, Amman is the largest city in the Levant region, and the sixth-largest city in the Arab world. The Omicron-COVID pandemic has made the hospital’s role more important than ever - it offers high-quality care to approximately 50,000 patients per month as the most crowded public hospital in Jordan. An EMSA spokesman commented: “The BF6M1015CPLAG Model Deutz Engine 400 kVA generator set manufactured by EMSA Generator is one of the series in highest demand due to its reputation for quality and reliability.” In another recent contract won in 2021, EMSA sold a genset to ViaPort Marina located in Tuzla, Istanbul. Here, a shopping mall and a port which now relies on an 825kVA set from EMSA Jenerators to complete its energy infrastructure. ViaPort Marina officials specified the set to provide uninterrupted power in case of any power cuts involving the grid. ViaPort Marina purchased a 6M33G825/5 model BAUDOUIN engine with an EGK355-600N model Emsa alternator designed for a 825 kVA diesel generator set - this was rapidly manufactured and delivered, says the company. “Using the generator as an auxiliary power source with the standby mode when there is grid energy infrastructure is extremely important for locations such as ViaPort Marina,” a company spokesman reports.

antifreeze) cooling system and turbocharged and aftercooled aspiration. Engine dry weight 2370kg. The generators made by EMSA include automatic commissioning in case of a power cut. These means that the businesses at the Viaport Marina can get fast and uninterrupted electricity without any delay and work can continue without any interruptions. ViaPort Marina is using the generator as an auxiliary power source in standby mode when the grid energy infrastructure is stable; this is extremely important for locations such as these. As the name suggests, ViaPort Marina is not just a shopping mall and entertaining location but also a busy marina for vessels. A location which blends both a marina and shopping mall culture needs energy 24/7. The EMSA generator is able to fully undertake its task and is ready to offer support for any other needs, says the manuifacturer. Akarteks, one of Turkey’s ket textile manufacturers has also chosen EMSA generators to prevent any problems due to energy loss.

A company spokesman commented: “A generator is an important element for Akarteks with 5 million textile items manufactured per year. The company selected EMSA,to provide gensets for its manufacturing facilities. due to energy loss. “Akarteks will minimise the energy loss level in its key manufacturing facilities and will continue to manufacture without downtime loss.” Akarteks has been a key manufacturer in Turkey for more than 30 years. It operates four facilities with a total area of 31,000 sqm. Akarteks specified a BF6M1015CP-LAGG3A model Deutz engine, a EGK315-320N model Emsa alternator and 440 kVA diesel generator sets manufactured by EMSA to eliminate potential power cuts. The manufacturing process will be uninterrupted as the EMSA generators can start in a very short time should an outage occur. www.emsa.gen.tr

Thanks to a sound insulated external container for the genset both the marina and shopping mall visitors will neither see nor hear the generator. The 6M33G825/5 model BAUDOUIN engine has 6 / 24 cylinders/valves and a 19.6-litre displacement. A diesel 4 stroke engine with a liquid (water + 50%
