TRACTOR SUPPLIES 32 MW OF PRIME POWER DIESEL GENSETS TO SAUDI ARABIA’S RED SEA PROJECT

Zahid

There are 69 generators currently running on diesel and biodiesel which have been provided to Saudi Arabia by Zahid Tractor, part of the Zahid Group.

This company was selected by one of the main contractors to supply power solutions designed to deliver 32 MW of prime power for The Red Sea Project. This ambitious project involved nearly 11,000 squaremiles (28,000 square-kilometres) of ‘regenerative tourism destination’ at a site currently under development along Saudi Arabia’s west coast. Zahid Tractor has supplied 69 generator sets capable of running on both conventional diesel and B100 biodiesel to supply energy during the construction phase of the Red Sea Project. Once complete, the luxury tourist destination will include a total of 16 hotels, an international airport and other commercial operations scheduled for completion in 2023.

The project leverages Caterpillar’s expertise in supplying and maintaining field-proven power solutions that have enabled operation on various hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), biodiesel, and blended fuel products for more than a decade.

Zahid Tractor has already delivered, installed and commissioned most of the generator sets in weather-resistant, sound-attenuated enclosures that are currently being used to support construction activities and workforce accommodation.

Zahid Tractor is also addressing uptime needs through Customer Value Agreements (CVAs).

Earlier this year MAN Energy Solutions provided 4 × MAN 18V51/60, 19 × MAN

9L21/31S and 2 × MAN

6L21/31S GenSets with each engine optimized for use with climate-neutral B100 biofuel.

MAN Energy Solutions 25 biofuel-optimized gensets now offers a total generating capacity of 112 MW to the Red Sea Project which has begun in Saudi Arabia.

This ambitious, regenerative tourist project – planned for Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast north of the city of Umluj – stretches over 200 km of coastline and more than 90 natural islands.

The 28,000 km2 area will eventually include a total of 50 resorts spanning 22 islands and inland locations, and an international airport.

The project builds upon a sustainable infrastructure with a green energy supply including independence from the national grid, water treatment and waste recycling. The giga-project will be powered by solar power plants combined with battery storage backed up by MAN GenSets at six locations.

The order covers 4 × MAN 18V51/60, 19 × MAN

9L21/31S and 2 × MAN

6L21/31S gensets with each engine optimized for use with climate-neutral B100 biofuel.

The comprehensive clean energy supply infrastructure has been developed by a consortium led by ACWA Power, a Saudi Arabian developer, investor and operator of desalinated water, power generation and green hydrogen plants.

Wayne Jones of MAN Energy Solutions says: “The Red Sea Project is a spectacular undertaking which will open up the region.”
