Bruce Kiefer named Mordica Memorial Winner, will present Mordica Lecture: “Ferrous rod — before it gets to be wire”
Bruce Kiefer is the winner of the 2023 Mordica Memorial Award, given to an individual for his or her industry technical contributions.
Kiefer was lauded by several nominators for outstanding achievements and activity. One observed that Dr. Kiefer was a key contributor of R&D advances in the rod industry for 30+ years. His efforts led to increased efficiency for rod mills and better quality products for the wire producers. He also organized an International Rod Mill Symposium for five years.
Wrote the nominator, “He helped to develop many tools used for modeling the rod rolling process and published around 80 technical papers related to fundamentals of rolling. He was a co-chairperson who helped organize the first
Global Ferrous Rod & Wire Symposium at Interwire 2017. In short, Dr. Kiefer is a talented, personable, willing, and able WAI Member that has given outstanding contributions to support and improve our Association and Industry.”
Kiefer’s career started in 1979 with Bethlehem Steel Corporation at the Homer Research Laboratories in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In 1986, he joined Morgan Construction Company in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he served as manager, mill process modeling and analysis. In 2008, the company was bought by Siemens Industry, Inc., then in 2015 changed to Primetals Technologies USA. He continued to serve there as principal engineer, while also serving as intellectual property manager and head of global marketing for U.S. long rolling.
Kiefer holds a PhD in applied mechanics from Lehigh University. He will present his Memorial Lecture at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, May 9, at the WAI Theater on the show floor.
