This section asks OEMs to explain why what they have to offer for customers is “the best of.” That claim could be for a wire drawing system that either offers the lowest operating cost or the newest advanced technology, but part of the equation has to be what else a company has to offer customers. What makes it a good potential partner. Also, some companies present more technical details in the Products section.

Italy’s Continuus-Properzi is known for its continuous casting and rolling lines for producing nonferrous wire rod, but its Wire Machinery Division also provides leading-edge technology for ferrous wire drawing applications. The Megalogos line, available with capstan sizes from 560 to 1270 mm, consists of horizontal axis, non-slip, multi-pass, drawing machines specifically engineered for high-carbon steel and PC wire. Megalogos machines provide operational, maintenance and safety benefits to the end user. Those include: a pre-aligned modular frame for easier installation; ease of maintenance (no need to ever crawl under the machine); an ergonomic, horizontal-axis design that ensures operator safety during string-up; a cooling system based on Properzi’s vast experience in casting and rolling lines that increases the capacity and efficiency of heat removal while protecting the capstans against corrosion and mineral build-up; increased life of drawing capstans; and an epicyclic gear train and mechanical coupling that provide higher efficiency and lower maintenance requirements. Innovation is integral to Continuus-Properzi’s DNA and it transcends equipment design. When Covid restrictions prohibited on-site commissioning, our innovative spirit facilitated the development of the Properzi “Smart e-Commissioning” method thereby allowing our field service team to work remotely, in real time, to lead, support, and supervise the commissioning activities. Properzi lines are also equipped with the company’s IULIUS 4.0 system to meet the demands of Industry 4.0. The automation architecture provides a modular infrastructure that can evolve to support this transformation into fully digitalized factories. See p. 66 for more details. Italy’s Eurodraw Wire Equipment Srl (Eurodraw), which manufactures a complete range of equipment for the steel wire industry, is well known for its high-performance wiredrawing machines for both lowand high-carbon steel wire. For wire drawing machines, one key point is wire cooling. More precisely, how fast it is possible to extract the heat from the wire. All Eurodraw’s dry drawing machines now feature the innovative RAPIDCOOL wire cooling system that can double the heat-transfer speed compared to its previous models that were already highly regarded on the market. Several drawing machines featuring this technology are already in operation, able to reach and steadily operate at production speeds up to 50 m/sec with low-carbon steel wire. All Eurodraw dry drawing machines can be customized with features such as rotating dies, programmable soap stirrers, temperature measurement systems for wire and cooling water, a laser gauge, accumulation blocks and more. The MTX series of dry drawing machines (pictured) includes as standard features such as an electrical cabinet, the water-cooling system and an air compressor. There also are multiple things you won’t need: wiring for installation, additional space requirements, connections to the factory cooling system or compressed air network and commissioning: just plug in the power and operate the line. Finally, innovation in wire drawing equipment means Industry 4.0 compliance, and all Eurodraw machines are now fully connected. They can share their data with integrated factory supervision systems, and at the same time be remotely serviced and supervised.

Since it was founded in 1978 by Gianluigi Marangoni, Italy’s Gimax Srl, part of the Gimax Group, has played a leading role in developing innovative machinery to process ferrous and nonferrous wire. The company’s story has continued to evolve to better serve the industry. The 1980s saw the first range of semi-automatic respoolers, the POLI series, which are still being used today. The 1990s saw Gimax introduce the first ever fully automatic respooler, the ROBO series, which continues to be a market leader for reliability, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The 2000s saw Gimax revolutionize the INF series of drum packer to be the most compact, efficient and fastest available. The next decade saw Gimax’s new REV series concept for fully automatic respooling as well as an update to its SBA series for shaving aluminum wire. Its lines today also include dry (TRD) and wet (TRS) drawing equipment. For dry drawing, the TRD models can be supplied with capstans fitted vertically or horizontally, and the latter can be either normal or tilted. The drawing system can process as large as 15 mm down to 0.5 mm, depending on the different wire types or alloys that this line can handle. All dry drawing benches include independently driven capstans, motorized and synchronized by means of a dancer or sensor arm, to provide highest quality wire reduction. For wet drawing, Gimax’s TRS range is ideal for both ferrous and nonferrous wires. See p. 66 for details on this technology. Beyond equipment, Gimax offers complete and timely service. That includes augmented reality that enables service engineers to work alongside customers in real time, both for installation and start-up to guiding machine operators.
