Got a room for Interwire yet? There’s still time to get one ... but it’s getting later
Reservations can still be made at www.interwire23.com for the eight official hotels for Interwire 2023, but time is getting short. The cut-off date is April 28.
Of note, the Industry Partnership agreement was reached five years ago. Its practical deployment, however, was sidelined at Interwire 2021 by Covid-19. Being able to fully resume that relationship at Interwire 2023 is a positive step as both associations seek to carry out their endeavors.
WCISA is a nonprofit corporate membership association of North American suppliers of machinery, materials and

PRODUCT Showcase
GMM-USA: its 100-ton capacity take-up was far too big for even wire Dusseldorf 2022
A full 10 m long and able to handle reels up to 5 m, the take-up system of GMM-USA (a subsidiary of Turkey’s Guven Muhendislik Makina/GMM) could not be displayed at wire Dusseldorf, but you get the idea: the company thinks big.
At Interwire, Levent Selvili, director of sales for GMM-USA, said his company will showcase a take-up and a caterpiller. More importantly, he will be ready to discuss what his company can do. (See p. 44 for firsttime Interwire exhibitor profile).
Selvili said that GMM has produced fiber optic and power cable production lines for more than 20 years. The list is long: complete custom-designed stranding lines, rewinding lines, jacketing lines, tubing lines and
individual equipment such as caterpillars, cooling troughs, capstans, accumulators, extruders, take-ups and payoffs, meter counters, dancers, yarn servers, water block tape applications, binders and cross binders, stranders, armor corrugating and armoring units and dryers.
The company’s R&D facility houses more than 30 engineers, and it works with customers to design the most efficient and optimal solutions. It is especially proud of its massive heavy-duty submarine grade takeups and payoffs for weights up to 100 metric tons, 5,000 mm reel sizes and caterpillars up to six tons of pulling force with 200 mm of cable diameters. It also produces sensitive fiber optic loose tube/ buffer lines, strand-
Interwire app is useful ... and safe. Really!
With all the negativity surrounding TikTok, WAI doesn’t want attendees to be discouraged from embracing the Interwire mobile app. Just scan in the below QR box.
“This is a true resource designed to maximize your experience at Interwire,” said WAI Director of Technology Chuck Szymaszek. “The app is designed to serve the interests of both the attendee and exhibitors by providing programming updates and searching capabilities of the extensive products and solutions on the show floor.”
The app is simple to download using the QR code, or visit www.interwire23.com, with one button configuration for either Apple or Google Play. You will be glad you did as you may find the production solution that you have been pursuing or easy walking directions to the Welcome Reception at Mercedes-Benz.
ing and jacketing lines. See p. 44 for more about the company.
Selvili (pictured above) has a lot more to say about GMM’s U.S. capabilities. He promises that a visit to his stand will not be a waste of time.
BOOTH 965
You think that Dave has a corny idea? Well, it will be 23 feet to glory on the show floor
Interwire is about new ideas and business opportunities, but Dave Fisher, James Monroe Wire & Cable, believes that it should also be a fun place. And that’s why he lobbied for Interwire to have its first-ever Cornhole Toss on the main aisle of the show floor. There won’t be a formal competition, but there should be lots of impromptu matches, with the potential for some ribbing ... but not a knee or shoulder injury. Per Dave, “It’s a great way for people to get together, maybe meet some new people and enjoy some refreshments. You can’t not have fun doing this.” The attraction will be active both days. In the meantime, you might want to start practicing your pitch technique.
INTERWIRE experience continues...
Industry 4.0
WJI posed the below question to Interwire exhibitors that had been associated with Industry 4.0 for the ill-fated Interwire 2021 and now for the much-anticipated Interwire 2023.
Of note, almost every participant here will be exhibiting at Atlanta, ready to go into far more detail, making the upcoming event even more informative and worthwhile to attend.
WJI: What does your company offer that falls under Industry 4.0? How do you fit in?

Demands for specific QC tested quality, faster turnaround times, pricing pressure, and new technology are all being made in the wire and cable industry. That means manufacturers must increase the rate of production, focus on QC and build transparency throughout the manufacturing process to lower costs. Production control automation will move companies to a position of proactive rather than reactive manufacturing. Implementing an Industry 4.0 MES digital system helps on multiple levels. Some of the benefits are: Standardization. This leads to implementing best practices across an organization. Consistent quality, testing and less scrap leads to greater profits. Measure production rates consistently. Comparisons with other lengths must be made on the same basis. Implementing an MES means putting in place uniform criteria needed to measure productivity consistently. Eliminate manual data entry on paper forms. When an MES system is implemented, manual paper entry can quickly be eliminated and errors from double manual entry and forgotten details can be avoided. In addition, these steps will help transform your operations and empower your workforce. Decisions made in real time. Automated sensors and detailed dashboards are available throughout the plant. Business decisions based on multiple data factors can be made faster and with greater confidence.
Advanced production scheduling. All machines show their status and reflect the current operations. Maintenance activities are scheduled and in case of downtime, reassignment of production is done automatically with a strong algorithm. ADVARIS has developed cutting-edge ERP & MES solutions built specifically for cable manufacturers. Presentations and demonstrations are available online and can be scheduled for as little as a one-hour segment. Cimteq by UL Solutions
Cimteq by UL Solutions (Cimteq) helps wire and cable manufacturers embrace Industry 4.0 practices. At Interwire, Cimteq will showcase CableBuilder and CableMES software programs designed specifically for the global wire and cable manufacturing industry. Essential automation and establishing a fully synced and integrated system are vital for any manufacturer looking to future-proof its business and fully understand how efficient its manufacturing processes are.
Traditional in-house cable design and manufacturing systems face costly issues (i.e., human error and wasteful/ inefficient operations) that erode profit, reduce competitiveness and hamper business growth. Digitalization reduces machine downtime, scrap and waste, and helps identify errors and bottlenecks. That’s where Cimteq’s suite of software makes a difference.
CableBuilder Enterprise software is a configurable program that allows customers to provide a complete tool for design BOM and routing with costs, customized quotations and professional reports. Including cable data sheets, product brochures, quality monitoring and interfaces to external systems like an ERP or MES, it is effective for any manufacturing plant.

Prior to the advent of Industry 4.0, customers looking to purchase capital equipment focused on maximum performance parameters, production throughput per unit time, equipment efficiency, equipment operation and maintenance costs over time, and the like. Those matters are still vital, but Industry 4.0 zones in on the equipment’s automation system and how it can optimize performance. Properzi developed the IULIUS 4.0 system to ensure the equipment’s automation system addresses the demands of Industry 4.0.
IULIUS 4.0 (see p. 54) is designed for our end-users to support and facilitate their transition to digital factories. The goal is for a Properzi line to provide the best possible, most trouble-free performance for production consistency, quality, OEE, savings and timely response to market challenges. Through data collection of important variables, IULIUS 4.0 provides automation and IT functionalities that address the specificities inherent to Properzi technology and equipment, as well as those of our end-users such as rod producers, welding wire producers, ingot casters, etc. These functionalities are pre-implemented and ready to use for seamless integration of the IULIUS 4.0 system with the end-user’s IT system.
