EVENT WRAP-UP

Messe Düsseldorf/C. Tillmann

wire Düsseldorf: the return! The hollow sense of a lost wire and cable industry presence ended on June 20, when the Messe Fairgrounds opened the halls for wire Düsseldorf 2022. This wrap-up looks at the event, thoughts from exhibitors, and some news from the event. Also, see the Products section. If you were there, you do not need to see the Messe press release to know that the stagings of wire Düsseldorf and its sister event, Tube, were a success. It was not the same as 2018, but given the backdrop of challenging times and geopolitical crises, it was a definite step forward, fed by the undisputed industry-wide desire for face-to-face meetings and business discussions. wire Düsseldorf was back. By the official numbers, a total of 1,822 wire and Tube exhibitors from more than 50 countries presented their technology and services. Some 93,000 sq meters of exhibi-

tion space hosted countless meetings. Beyond the numbers, there was a sense of energy and possibilities. “Düsseldorf is and will remain the place to be for these vital industries,” Messe Düsseldorf Executive Director Bernd Jablonowski declared in a statement. “Especially in times of sustainable change it is more important than ever to be represented here in Düsseldorf and in direct exchange with the players in these industries.” He noted that most exhibitors planned to return again in 2024.

LÄMNEÅ BRUK SWEDEN Lämneå Bruk displayed the company’s No Twist Coiler (NTC) 1200, which it notes has the potential to truly transform traditional wire production with its unique coiling technique. Per the company, Lämneå Bruk has perfected the NTC concept for welding and spring wire for more than 30 years. The NTC 1200 replaces traditional, often outdated gooseneck and spooling technologies and always produces perfectly patterned laid coils up to two metric tons. Due to this, there is no scrap for maximum productivity and effectiveness. The NTC 1200 can double the outputs of galvanizing lines without any further adjustments to the existing set up, a major reason why it is now becoming a preferred coiling technique for internal galvanizing processes. When the NTC 1200 is used in-line with the drawing machine, the key advantage is the unlimited speed capability of the coiler. The drawing line speed can be increased significantly as the coiler runs at unlimited speed, the drawing machine is the limiting factor. The straight-forward cast and helix set-up ensures maximum user-friendliness as well as quicker changing times for improved productivity. Regardless of the wire tensile, there is no need for a die in the coiler. Key advantages for the uncoiling of the wire package are certainly the unlimited payout speed as well the continuous payout capabilities, running from coil to coil by welding finish end to start end for considerably more productiv-

ity. There is no need for rotation of the wire carrier during uncoiling which makes it easy to handle. Like all Lämneå Bruk machines, the NTC 1200 and all its parts are manufactured on-site in Sweden to ensure maximum supply chain transparency, quality, customization according to the customers’ unique requirements as well as safety. www.lamnea.com.

METAL LINK SOUTH KOREA Metal Link has centered its business on stranding machines since it was founded in 1976. The company recently developed a pitch control system for its tubular strander that maintains the set pitch even during an emergency power outage situation that it calls the “Smart Pitch Control System (SPCS).”

Metal Link, Inc. President & CEO Jae-Kwan Ku and U.S. Brand Director Geoffrey Kim by their small strander. Per the company, when the power goes out, the tubular strander continues rotating its tubes while slowing down because of the centrifugal momentum, whereas the capstan and the take-up—the two main parts controlling the pitch—immediately stop, causing an irregular pitch. This, of course, creates unnecessary down time for daily production. Our Smart Pitch Control System enables the inverter to supply electricity generated by the high rotational speed to the capstan and take-up separately. This action synchronizes them so that they decelerate simultaneously at the exact same speed until they come to a full stop together without having disturbed the set pitch. When the power comes back on, the stranding production can continue on as if nothing happened. This system is designed by our programming and it does not require an external power source. We began developing this system after hearing the seriousness of this issue from our customers repeatedly over the years. Further, our small stranding machines designed for fine wires have achieved top production speed of 7,000 RPM and we believe that we can increase this to 9,000 RPM. The highly efficient performance of our machines is propelled by industry-leading advanced and innovative technologies. However, our biggest emphasis continues to be that safety comes first: we will continue to build machines that are safe to use. We offer innovative SPCS, fast production speeds, low noise and low vibration with an ultra-safe design. Interested? Visit our website to see more. www.metallink.co.kr. W W W. W I R E N E T. O R G

ENKOTEC A/S DENMARK The focus, and future, for state-of-the-art nail manufacturing can be seen in the ENKOsmart Factory. The wire nails industry is on the verge of actual digital transformation with “Smart Factory” solutions, and Enkotec aims to be a state-of-the-art technology provider that enables this journey for the manufacturers. Per the company, the early adopters of such technologies will be leading the game by disrupting the way nail manufacturing is being executed, and will end up as market leaders due to advanced control of quality, cost and optimum utilization of machinery and labor. Further, digital transformation can be the key enabler of sustainable nail production by minimizing waste and scrap metal. But what has changed in recent years that can accelerate this digitalization process and how is Enkotec planning to be the cuttingedge digital solution provider? Well, as Cloud and EDGE have become general-purpose technologies (GPTs) with reasonable cost structures, new feasible and scalable ways of utilizing Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions for efficiency improvements have appeared. The digital adoption, however, does not happen by itself, so Enkotec has been taking a two-step approach.

Enkotec A/S Marketing Manager Maziyar Nesari believes nailmaking equipment must be smart: ENKOsmart. First, the company has transformed conventional electromechanical nail making machinery into IIoT-products with advanced sensor technology and an ENKOsmart software platform on machinery level. This allows for extensive operational data extraction and enables faster decision making and actions. Second, Enkotec is now offering a factory level IIoT-solution, the ENKOsmart Factory. This platform brings nail manufacturers a real-time and remote monitoring platform with immediate info on Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) of production lines and machinery operational status. By combining the in-depth data from the ENKOsmart nail making machines with Enkotec’s knowhow on nail production, nail manufacturers can reach new levels of productivity with an ENKOsmart Factory Solution. www.enkotec.dk.
