Equipment at Interwire 2023

If you weren’t able to be in Atlanta to attend Interwire—the largest such tradeshow in the Americas for wire and cable—these pages present equipment/auxiliary equipment that was presented on the show floor. The companies here include well-known OEMs as well as first-time Interwire exhibitors. Collectively, they present a range of technology for manufacturers to consider.

AIM Inc. USA

AIM Inc., a global leader in CNC wire and tube for coil and bending solutions, introduced the updated “Synchro” machine (pictured) with extended bending capabilities. The most sophisticated 3D CNC wirebending solution available, it features a tool-changer with three patented satellite mandrel benders that offer the least forming limitations.

The preloaded graphics animation allows for program verification before even running a single production part. When part of an automation cell, it can provide the best production solutions for today’s challenged market. In all instances, wire can be fed directly from a coil, straightened, bent and cut using a software package that provides flexibility and simplicity in programming.

The Synchro model comes complete with a two-plane straightener; a 4,000-lb automatic payoff unit; a maintenance-free, servo quad-roller feeder; precision bender axes; unlimited arm (Z-Axis) rotation; and an industrial PC running Windows® 10 IoT and SmartEditor®. All these elements are part of AIM’s unique and world-renowned programming package, which is how the company resets the bar for wire shop automation.

AIM Inc., headquartered in Florida, has a second location in Chicago, and a satellite location in Athens, Greece. The company manufactures one of the broadest lines of wire-bending machines in the world, from 0.5 mm to over 20 mm wire diameters. AIM uniquely qualifies as the premier wire shop automation company.

AIM can analyze your wire and/or tube bending needs by providing a full production proposal, including conservative production rates with unmatched accuracies and repeatability.

BETASISTEMI Italy

Italy’s BETASISTEMI, a high-end manufacturer of drawing machines for nonferrous wires, was pleased to exhibit at Interwire. Its team members have experience stretching back as far as three decades that has enabled it to significantly advance the market with important technical innovations.

The latest development from BETASISTEMI’s technical team is the M1 ultra-compact rod breakdown line for copper wires (pictured). This model represents the results of our continued R&D aimed at bringing remarkable advantages to wire and cable manufacturers. Below are some of the features that make the M1 a very good investment.

M1 fits the most restricting space requirements and allows consistent savings on the plant footprint while guaranteeing high performance and great quality of the finished wires. The technical specs are as follows: the drawing machine, annealer and dancer are accommodated in just 5.5 m. The drawing capstans and annealer shafts are driven by individual motors for limited-slip operations. Drawing is possible in 11, 12 or 13 drafts. The horizontal annealer is 5,000 Amp, and the drawing range is 1.12-4.50 mm (with 12-draft drawing section) at a maximum speed of up to 36 m/sec. Production capacity is up 20,000 metric tons per year.

BETASISTEMI also produces an extremely wide range of drawing equipment for copper and aluminum wires, including: rod breakdown lines, single/twin wire intermediate lines, multiwire lines up to 48-wires, continuous annealers, spooler/coilers/special take-ups. Its product portfolio is completed by a selection of advanced double-twist stranders for 1250/1600/2000mm bobbins, and can develop special custom machineries in cooperation with its valuable customers.

Clifford Machines

South Africa

AWT Machinery USA

Clifford Machines & Technology, based in South Africa, again exhibited at Interwire—along with its U.S. sale representative, AWT Machinery—where it displayed one of Clifford’s latest six-axis CNC jig welders, ideally suited for resistance welding complex wire welded and sheet metal parts. These versatile CNC jig welders offer extremely quick setup times, high quality and highly efficient MFDC resistance welding, and the ability to weld complex 3D components.

The displayed model, the VWM2012, is packed with new features to help reduce setup times and make programming more efficient. These new machines offer optional wireless programming pendants, so programming is now at your fingertips, without the restrictive cable of a wired pendant. Coupled with custom-designed software, this makes programming a breeze.

To further enhance the programming process, Clifford will soon be launching a remote programming software tool that can write programs for the machine at your desktop using the CAD models of your jig and parts. This will be a game changer for these machines, and subsequently, for Clifford’s customers.

At Interwire, Clifford also announced that it is opening its new U.S. manufacturing facility in Ohio. Clifford has already begun producing several CNC jig welding machines, and some other specialty machines at the new facility. Clifford can now proudly display the “Made in America” badge on these machines.

At AWT Machinery, we look forward to further promoting the Clifford brand of CNC jig welders, industrial mesh welders, reinforcing mesh welders and steel floor grating welders in North America.
