Every guest, who stays in the region for at least one night, will get the WÖRTHERSEE Plus Card (only in the accomodation!). This card is free of charge!

Robert-Musil-Literature-Museum

The Robert-Musil-Literature-Museum is located in the same house where Robert Musil (1880 – 1942), the Austrian author of world renowned books and modern classics, was born in Klagenfurt. The house, which was built in 1867, belongs to the city of Klagenfurt and was adapted in 1996 and 1997 to encompass a modern centre for literature, with new rooms for the museum and for the University of Klagenfurt Robert Musil Institute forLiterature Research/Carinthian Literature Archive. Since 1994, the literature museum has been run by the cultural department of the city of Klagenfurt and now shows permanent exhibitions on Robert Musil, Christine Lavant and Ingeborg Bachmann. The contentrelated concept for the exhibitions came from Heimo Strempfl , the design for the exhibitions came from architect Franz Freytag (Klagenfurt). The internationally renowned French street artist Jef Aérosol turned the Musil Museum into a real ‛landmark‘ by spraypainting portraits of Christine Lavant, Ingeborg Bachmann and Robert Musil on the entrance.

Gustav Mahler Composer’s Cottage

’... my heart became full ...‘ (G. Mahler) The brilliant composer needed the tranquillity of nature for his inspiration. The ideal place was Klagenfurt-Maiernigg am Wörthersee, where he had his composing cottage built in 1900. He created his major works here in the summer months up to 1907.

Klagenfurt Parish Church Tower

The ‘Mother of Carinthian Churches’Maria Saal Cathedral

The cathedral goes back more than 2000 years: As a late Gothic pilgrimage and collegiate church, it was starting point of the second Christianisation of Carantania. Sights include the grave of Irish monk and chorbishop Modestus in the collegiate church and the world-famous Roman stone relief on the facade, as well as unique frescoes, Gothic carvings, and a Baroque organ. After a devastating fire in 1669, the church was rebuilt in its present style. The north tower houses Carinthia’s largest church bell. In 2018, contemporary stations of the cross were created.

Liebenfels Castle –museum, skywalk, and observation tower
Liebenfels Castle, built around 1300, has awoken from its slumber again. The listed castle was secured, renovated and reopened to the public in 2021. It inspires all ages thanks to extensive, ongoing research. The museum, viewing platform and the highest medieval lookout tower in Carinthia will impress you. Young visitors feel very much at home in the spacious courtyard!

The adventure train takes you through the beautiful landscape of Liebenfels, starting from Liebenfels train station to the 'Abenteuer Wasserweg', Liebenfels Castle, the churches of the municipality (Liebenfels, Glantschach, Pulst, Sörg), past the family-run inns over the 'Sörger Wasserfall' and back (Liebenfels train station to 'Sörger Wasserfall' approx. 1h 10min journey time). The day ticket is a hop on hop off ticket, i.e. you can hop on and off as often as you like on this day. The round trip takes place 4 times per operating day.

The Mali Chess Museum project in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee consists of four projects. On 1000 square meters we combine a chess museum, a chess café, a chess training room and a souvenir shop. SCHIEFLING AM WÖRTHERSEE
THE HOUSE OF ARCHAEOLOGY
With a height of 772 m Mt. Kathreinkogel is not only a prominent feature in the landscape of the community but also its most interesting cultural site. From the parking lot you take the hiking trail to get to the top. Walking along the trail you will learn a lot about the history of the mountain. In the museum all the archaeological finds from the 1980s are set on display. They date back to the Neolithic as well as Bronze Age and the late antiquity. On top of the mountain there are the remains of a 10,000 m2 large fortification with an early Christian church from the 4th century. You can still admire the elevated presbytery, the floor pavement and the two cisterns to the south-west that were used to catch and store rainwater.

On the ‘Glückswanderweg’ to the hidden mountain chapels
From the car park in Tallach we walk along a beautiful forest path towards Maria Elend. Here we visit the pilgrimage church with the famous Gothic winged altar. The trail continues steeper uphill towards the mountain chapels. On the way, we make a detour to the ‘Christ Spring’, where we fill our bottles with (according to popular belief) healing water. The spring comes directly from the mountain and pours out of the heart of the large statue of Christ into a stone basin. We take a break at the two mountain chapels at 781 m and enjoy the great view of the beautiful Rosental valley. The difference in altitude is approx. 250 m, the total walking time approx. 3 hours.

The Heft ironworks, a monumental witness to the iron industry in the 19th century, is one of the largest historic ironworks facilities in Europe. Carinthian architect Günther Domenig harmoniously yet unconventionally combined the old building fabric with a floating glass and steel construction. Today's open-air museum skilfully masters the fusion of classicist mining buildings with modern architecture. The old blast furnaces have been spectacularly staged & are the starting point of the hike. The trail leads to Knappenberg and back along the old ore railway.
Attention: you should have a head for heights.

The Hörfeldmoorunrivalled biodiversity
Covering around 140 hectares, the Hörfeldmoor is home to a fascinating variety of flora and fauna, including 500 butterfly species, 125 bird species and over 50 rare plants. Starting from Emmi Antjes Steg, our 3-hour hike leads through the forest and across the meadow around the beautiful Hörfeldmoor. The route of around 5 km and not quite 100 metres in altitude is also suitable for children aged 6 and over, but is not suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. The difference in altitude is approx. 100 m, the total walking time approx. 2 hours.

The robber round - Krapfenbäck Simale
From the Wegscheide inn, where the doughnut baker Simale met his tragic end, we head east. We hike along picturesque forest paths north of the Wunderriegel (1274 m) in the direction of Schneebauerberg. There are always beautiful viewpoints to the north of the Gurktal Alps or to the south of the Karawanken. From Haus Schneebauer, the route now heads slightly south back to the starting point. As befits a real robber, we can put our archery skills to the test at the Gasthaus Wegscheide at the practice area of the local archery club. The difference in altitude is approx. 260 m, the total walking time approx. 3 hours.
Note: Archery takes place at the shooting range under the guidance of a member of the club. The hire fee for arrows and bows, as well as the course fee of € 25.00 are to be paid at the shooting range. Minimum 3 participants.

Excursion to the 3 Lakes
From the ship landing stage in Velden, you walk through the village with the villas from the time of the Wörthersee Architecture to the French Church. This is where the path through the Roman gorge to the Lake Forstsee begins. Through beautiful mixed forest it goes to the viewpoint ‘Hohes Kreuz’. Here we enjoy a wonderful view over Velden, the Lake Wörthersee, the Karawanken mountain and Julian Alps. We continue to the Lake Forstsee, which invites you to swim in the summer months. Passing the small lake, it goes through the Roman gorge back to Velden.

Through the Roman gorge to Lake Saissersee
From the ship landing stage in Velden it goes through the village to the French Church. This is where the path through the Römerschlucht begins, towards Lake Saissersee. This small moor lake is located in the Jeserzer landscape protection area and is particularly appreciated for its natural state. Around the lake we continue to the ’Veldener Kanzel’. Here we enjoy the view of Velden, Lake Wörthersee and the Karawanken. Through the Teufelsgraben it goes back to Velden.

Steeped in history on the way to the Old Loibl Pass
From the meeting point, we hike steadily uphill on the historic old Loibl pass road to the old border crossing with the two impressive obelisks. A beautiful view of both Austria and Slovenia awaits us. The cosy ‘Stari Loibl Hütte’ is located right on the pass and invites you to stop and sample typical Slovenian delicacies. Excursion to the Hohe Gloriette
Our first stop will be at the Hotel Schloss Leonstain where we will visit the inner courtyard which displays the bust of Johannes Brahms.
Afterwards we have to climb a few steps to reach one of the most amazing lookout points on Lake Wörthersee, the Hohe Gloriette which offers a fantastic view of the whole lake. Enjoy the unique panoramic view and listen to classical music while reading the information board which gives you interesting details about the life of the famous composer Johannes Brahms who lived in Pörtschach from 1877 to 1879. We will continue our hike to the Leonstein Castle ruins and the Niedere Gloriette. To complete our hike we return to the tourist information.

From the village of Rupertiberg, we hike past the pilgrimage church of St. Lucia into the Turia Forest, situated at around 820 m above sea level. This western part of the Sattnitz mountain range takes us to different power spots in nature and promises experiences of mysticism and energy. Once we’ve reached the panoramic Racava rock, we enjoy a breathtaking view over the Rosental and the Karawanks mountain range. Then we continue to the ‘Saligensitzen’ (Saligen seats) hewn out of the rock – with this we are entering the realm of the legendary Saligen women and immersing ourselves in the stories about these nature-loving women. Herbal experience from Gurk to Pisweg
We, certified herb expert & forest educator Susanne Fischinger & mountain hiking guide Franz Plieschnegger, will take you on a nature journey starting from the imposing Gurk Cathedral. The challenging hike leads along a hollow forest path to Pisweg (1000 metres above sea level). While you breathe in the forest air, you will learn interesting facts about the Gurktal valley, herbs and the forest habitat. If the weather is fine, we take a break at the ‘Debriacher Kreuz’. Those interested will learn a lot about weather and orientation. In Pisweg, we stop off at the herb inn ‘Zum Kramer’ & can fortify ourselves there. Tscheppa Gorge nature experience
Today's tour takes us to the southernmost part of Austria. First, we take a leisurely walk along the Loiblbach stream until the actual gorge begins after the Goldenen Bründl. Well-secured, we make our way over ladders, steps and bridges to the first of 3 waterfalls. A bridge and a spiral staircase lead directly next to the first waterfall to the top, where the second waterfall is reached below the Loiblpass road. We reach the Tschauko Falls via the Devil's Bridge, a boldly constructed suspension bridge. We look back at the Tschaukofall through a huge rock gate.
Now we follow the nature trail ‘In the footsteps of Dr Peter Tschauko’. Numerous information boards inform us about the fauna and flora of the Loibl Valley. Passing the refreshing Elfenqulle and the LiebesPlatzl, we finally reach the traditional ‘Deutscher Peter’ inn. After a well-earned rest, we return to Lake Wörthersee. The difference in altitude is approx. 200 metres, the total walking time is approx. 2 hours.

Forest rope park Pyramidenkogel
Each tree can be climbed using a wooden platform, with the highest obstacle being 20 metres high. The adventure park features five courses in varying levels of difficulty with 40 different exercises in total. They include: a spider web, liana, monkey swing, suspension bridge and flying fox. There are various flying foxes, the longest of which is 80 metres. Mastering it requires muscle strength, balance, motor skills and dexterity.
The access road to Waldseilpark Pyramidenkogel is on the L97c, just before the Pyramidenkogel viewing tower.

The ‛Magic Mountain Trail‘ is an exciting via ferrata course through the cliffs and canyons on the Kanzianiberg.
Vertical rock faces and exposed ledges can be climbed in the best possible safety. We climb through a 40 metre high chimney and cross an equally deep gorge over an airy Nepal bridge. Our Flying Fox, a spectacular rope slide, as well as an abseil ride provide thrills!

At the end of the youth canyoning tour the younger members can climb out of the gorge and watch the adults roping down two waterfalls from the path above. New and unique in Europe: the road through the Lesach Valley has always been an adventure in itself. Now it’s even better. Mounted on the 70-metre-high bridge in Podlanig is the largest swing in Europe –with thrills guaranteed. First we adjust the harness for you. Then we winch up the four-seater swing. All you have to do is release yourself to plunge down towards the valley (safely held of course by the steel cables). After swinging backwards and forwards several times, you will then be helped out and can recover from the experience. History with carriage –adventure tour through Zollfeld
What stories are hidden behind the walls of the Pfalzkirche Karnburg church? What secrets does the Duke’s Chair hold and how much of the past is housed at the Carinthian open-air museum? Culture vultures and adventure seekers can experience this and much more on the Zollfeld carriage ride.
The route for the 3-hour ride through the lovely countryside is lined with evidence of thousands of years of history and historical insights from the investiture of the sovereign on the Duke’s Chair to old wayside shrines and crossroads to the Carolingian Palatine Church, where it is proven that the later Emperor Arnulf celebrated Christmas more than 1,000 years ago.
Guests are pulled by strong Noriker horses. Back in Maria Saal, the ride takes you over the fortress church’s former drawbridge, through the whispering arch of the gatehouse, and ends in front of the cathedral church back in the centre of Maria Saal.

4. Issuing conditions: The Wörthersee Plus Card is free of charge by certain accommodation facilities for the duration of stay and cannot be acquired by purchase.
5. Validity conditions: The Wörthersee Plus Card is non-transferable and is only valid in conjunction with valid photo identification. All Wörthersee Plus Card services can therefore be used exclusively by the named holder within the Wörthersee Plus Card validity period (promotion period).
The promotion period, within which guests can take advantage of the services after purchasing the Wörthersee Plus Card, is defined in the annually issued Wörthersee Plus Card brochure. The validity period of each Wörthersee Plus Card is determinded by the purchased service package.
The Wörthersee Plus Card and its service packages are valid for the calendar year of their purchase. No refund is applicable for costs for unused or only partly used cards and service packages.
6. Use: In order to obtain Wörthersee Plus Card benefits, the card holder shows his Wörthersee Plus Card to the respective partner, who will check the validity. The card holder is obligated to show valid photo identification upon request. If the card holder is not able to do so, Wörthersee Plus Card services can be refused.
7. Misuse: In case of misuse or suspected misuse the individual partners are entitled and obligated to confiscate the card without compensation.
Transferring the Wörthersee Plus Card to a third person is not allowed and may result in consequences under criminal law!
8. Cards for children: The age group discounts are based on the birth year indicated in the Wörthersee Plus Card borchure for the respective calender year.
9. Use of personal data: With the purchase of the Wörthersee Plus Card the card holder expressly agrees that his personal data (name, date of birth, postal and email address and phone number) may be passed to the Region Wörthersee-Rosental Tourismus GmbH.
The card holder furthermore agrees to receive information from the cooperation partner via phone, fax, e-mail and SMS for advertising purposes, direct advertising or in the form of bulk mail about current subscription offer, books, leisure and cultural events. The card holder is entitled to revoke his approval to the use of personal data at any time in written form.
10. Theft/ loss: In case of theft or loss of the card, the guest can report this occurrence to any issuing office. The Region Wörthersee-Rosental Tourismus GmbH and its cooperation partner are not liable in case of theft or loss
11. Applicable law / legal venue: Any legal relationships between the Region Wörthersee-Rosental Tourismus GmbH and the card holder are exclusively subject to Austrian law except for the UN law of sale (UNCITRAL) and the reference provisions of the conflict of laws (IPRG).
Any legal dispute emerging from or being related to the legal relationships between the Region Wörthersee-Rosental Tourismus GmbH and the card holder, the responsibility of the court responsible for Villach, Austria is agreed.
