TAKE LEARNING OUT OF THE CLASSROOM Wolverhampton Arts and Culture venues are special places where everyone can enjoy learning and develop a range of skills. Learning outside the classroom in museums, galleries and archives gives children the confidence to explore their surroundings and broadens their understanding of people and the world around them.

TAILOR-MADE PACKAGES Cross-curricular and inter-disciplinary cultural learning is central to our offer. We provide a variety of sessions linked to Art, Numeracy and Maths, Literacy and English, History, Geography, and Science. We offer high quality and flexible experiences that enhance your work in the classroom, and we work with you to ensure our workshops match the needs of your class or group, as well as giving you the best value for money. ENGAGING AND INTERACTIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS We focus on the importance of creative learning experiences that provide depth of engagement with internationally renowned artists from the collection and an exciting programme of changing exhibitions. Our KS1 and KS2 sessions support the curriculum, and provide opportunities for developing children’s skills in:

ART SKILLS & CRITICAL THINKING FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES Our offer for secondary schools and colleges concentrates on skills development and creative expertise. We encourage critical thinking, visual analysis and discussion. Sessions incorporate both soft skills and technical skills: • Communication and presentation skills • Confidence and self-esteem • Appreciation and awareness of different perspectives • Creativity, problem-solving and technical ability • Self-management • Artist master classes in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, creative writing, photographing museum objects and design CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD)

We offer a range of CPD (Continuous Professional Development) and networking sessions for teachers throughout the year. Including practical sessions on:

ARTS AWARD WITH WOLVERHAMPTON ARTS & CULTURE Wolverhampton Arts & Culture encourages and supports Cultural Learning at numerous venues across the City of Wolverhampton including Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Bantock House and Museum, Wolverhampton City Archives and Bilston Gallery. Our exhibitions and activities support local, regional and national agendas. Wolverhampton is a supporter of Arts Award at all levels: Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold. We deliver the Bronze Arts Award on a regular basis through our ArtForum group. We offer Gold Arts Award through ArtForum. We also offer Discover and Explore Arts Award through our programme of family-friendly and school activities. WOLVERHAMPTON ART GALLERY

Our gallery displays are ideal for interactive sessions for primary, secondary and special educational needs (SEN) pupils, who can enjoy learning through a multi-sensory experience. They can dress up in period clothing and touch and handle artworks and museum objects. Our Pop Art collection is the biggest collection outside London. Our collection is great for stimulating discussion and as inspiration for developing art skills. ARRIVAL AND LUNCH If your school group will be arriving by coach, the drop off and pick up point is located Wulfruna Street, at the back of the gallery. The nearest entry door is then to the side of the gallery along St. Peter’s Close. Workshops start at 10.30am when we open to the public, unless arranged otherwise. BANTOCK HOUSE MUSEUM

History comes alive at Bantock where pupils can experience what it was like living and working in Victorian and Edwardian times. Interactive sessions where pupils can handle historical objects and learn about the practicalities of daily life, promoting a real awareness of the past. Discovery sessions encourage pupils to work in teams to investigate and explore their surroundings together, all sessions include art and craft activities. The house is also surrounded by formal gardens and beautiful parkland and we also run a range of arts and nature sessions which explore the house, park and gardens.

BILSTON GALLERY

Bilston Gallery explores the links between art, engineering, and science. The exhibitions celebrate the pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit of Bilston, Wolverhampton, the Black Country and beyond. Linking local industry and manufacturing to the wider world, pupils can discover how pre-history and geology (fossils) fuelled the foundations of the industrial revolution, which started in the Black Country and the legacy that continues today.

WOLVERHAMPTON CITY ARCHIVES

The Archives offer a peaceful and thoughtful learning environment staffed by a team of experts. We’re also ideally placed to preserve and conserve your school’s heritage. Pupils of all ages can learn about the fascinating history of Wolverhampton at the City Archives, from Anglo-Saxon times to the present day, and find out how to research and interpret historical events and related archive material.
