editor-in-chief letter it's not too late! Often times we find ourselves looking to society to provide the trajectory of our path and destiny. We fail to see ourselves as the change agent we desperately need or desire. With those perceptions, time continues to pass us by. We have allowed distractions to become our way out of dealing with our reality. Woman of MORE, it's not too late to remove those things that have caused you to place your path and destiny by the way side. Today was created with you and your purpose in front of you. Get up and dust your mind off. It's a new day. Dream, be, and do MORE. There's MORE to you than what you're doing right now. Powerhouse Woman! Welcome back for the third installment of the 5-part series Moving Beyond GoalSetting to Goal-Getting. In the last issue, I shared two new strategies related to how commitment impacts goal attainment and how your willingness to help others be successful will help you gain success. You can read the past two articles to catch up on the strategies in the March/April and June/July issues. In this issue, we’re going to look at two new strategies to help you move beyond goal-setting to goal-getting. Strategy 5: Grab Opportunities This strategy is very important to making progress on your goals. Opportunities aren’t necessarily a part of your plan. They often show up unexpectedly and, if taken advantage of, will typically cause you to have to change your plans. Changing your plans might make you nervous, but it shouldn’t. Opportunities are good, and you should never turn down an opportunity just because it wasn’t a part of your plan. The opportunity may be the exact thing for which you’ve been praying. It may be a shortcut on the journey to accomplishing your goals. However, opportunities can be a bit tricky. You see, sometimes distractions show up looking like opportunities, and if you don’t evaluate them, you might find yourself farther away from your goals rather than closer to them.

Strategy 6: Go On In my book, GO! 10 Powerful Steps to Accomplishing Your Goals & Living the Life You Desire, I quote Robin S. Sharma at the start of the chapter, Go On, “People fear leaving their safe harbor of the known and venturing off into the unknown. Human beings crave certainty -even when it limits them.”

GO, GIR L!

Here are seven questions to help you evaluate if an opportunity is a true opportunity or merely a distraction: 1. Is it related to my goals? 2. Could it increase the knowledge or skills I need to accomplish my goals? 3. Could it help me meet people who will help push my vision forward? 4. Could it propel me forward in the journey towards my goals? 5. Have I been preparing for this opportunity? 6. Will anyone die if I do this? 7. Will I lose my job or damage a relationship with someone I love if I do this?

This statement is powerful. It points out how we would prefer to stay where we are, even if it’s in a situation that we don’t like because we are familiar with it. I describe it as being comfortable with being uncomfortable. We don’t like it, we don’t want it, but at least we know what “it” is and that brings a sense of comfort and makes it easy for us to stay where we are. What does this look like in action? It could look like you deciding to stay in a bad relationship because you’re afraid to start over on your own. It could look like you making the decision not to go back to school because everyone around you is giving you reasons why you shouldn’t or can’t (out of their personal fears and insecurities). It could look like you living small and weak when you know you were born to live grand and powerful just to appease the fears and expectations of others. It could look like you dying on the inside because you stay still, right where you are, despite the big vision that you see ahead of you because you are afraid to let go of anyone who doesn’t want or isn’t ready to move forward with you.

The GO On strategy is about going on with your life, even if you have to leave others behind. I get it. It’s hard. But your life is YOUR life, just as their life is THEIR life. If they don’t have goals, it’s not your fault. If they have goals, but don’t If you can answer “yes” to the first five questions, you may want to do the work necessary to accomplish them, it’s not want to Grab the Opportunity. Questions six and seven are your responsibility. If they are uncomfortable with who you designed to help eliminate any fear you may have about are becoming as you move closer to your goals, it’s not your grabbing the opportunity. These are likely the worst things issue -it’s theirs. Everyone has the right and responsibility to that could happen as a result of your decision to move choose who they are going to be and how they are going to forward. If these aren’t real possibilities, you are probably live out their lives. Don’t let others make that decision for well equipped to handle any other potential negative you. Don’t leave this earth regretting who you could have outcome that may come from you grabbing the become and what you could have done. Remember, you are opportunity. And, none of those seem quite as bad as not choosing to leave anyone behind. They are choosing to these two, right? So, Grab Opportunities! stay. You deserve all that you desire, powerful one. So, Go On and GO for it!

MICHELE

STRATECHIC 2.0

Michele Thornton Ghee is a wife, mother, and high-ranking media executive that resides in New Jersey. Born and raised in Oakland, California, Michele didn’t graduate college until the age of thirty. Between high school and college, she dated the wrong men, gained 30 pounds, cleaned homes for a living, and tragically lost her father to cancer. She views her dad’s death as the catalyst for change in her life. While on his deathbed, Michele vowed to make her father proud. Her promise was the last thing he would ever hear. Walt Thornton and many others are very proud of NOT merely what Michele has accomplished in her career, but what she has given back to the world. Stratechic is another example of Thornton’s commitment to the world, her community, and to women.

“WORKING AT THE OFFICE LIKE A STYLISH LADY BOSS” WRITTEN BY TYNETTA T. BROWN

From your office chair to the file cabinet you choose, the style of your desk; having the perfect office environment is key to accomplishing your work or business goals or any tasks before you. Is organization a problem? Is your office chair ergonomically fit for your body? The space you work in and the tools you use are critical to “working like a Lady Boss.” Would you meet a client in your office space? Are you at times unorganized and multitasking in your work space is a stretch? Creating a professional work atmosphere is key to productivity.

We spend a large amount of time in our work spaces, so this month we are offering a few immediate design considerations for your home, corporate or shared space office environment.

The Foundation - Your Desk. Selecting the right size desk is key. Depending on the layout of your space, you might select one that offers more desktop space to accommodate equipment, files, and writing, such as an L-Shaped Desk. A U-shaped desk is great for sharing and offers more work surface but may take up a lot of square footage. Space challenged? Other desk style considerations include a built-in or narrower work surface against a wall or a desk unit that allows you to fold away or “hide” paperwork and equipment and is more private. Finally, there is a growing trend for Sit to Stand or height adjustable desks to accommodate various user heights, the disabled, and allows for a little calorie burning. Ergonomically correct seating. Your kitchen or dining chair is not going to cut it. If you are sitting for an extended period, comfortable seating is another important item that contributes to your productivity and helps avoid future back problems or fatigue. Check measurements such as seat height and width as well as the back width. Adjustable arm rests, lumbar support and a durable material are additional considerations when selecting office seating. Your local office furniture dealer should be able to assist you with selecting the perfect chair.

Lighting. Energy saving desk lamps or task lighting for reading, writing, computer work, etc. come in various styles and finishes and your selection can be based on your personal design aesthetic, the type of tasks you will be doing and the amount of work surface that you are using. Placement of adequate lighting on your desk or overhead helps with avoiding eye strain and headaches.

Other design considerations for your office include organizational tools, desk accessories, personal photos, inspirational quotes and artwork that speak to your personal style, company brand, are multifunctional and express to your clients exactly who you are. Now go forth and update your office look so you can be more productive, secure that contract and be the Lady Boss that you are meant to be.

25 YEARS IN MEDIA

WOM: As an influencer, what is your message/platform to the media world? DGS: There are many opportunities to engage in media today than when I first started as a high school news reporter for WJLD Radio Station in Birmingham, Alabama in 1968. My mother died when I was eleven, and even though I was told by teachers that I would never make it in view of my circumstances nor afforded the opportunities to be successful, I understood clearly there was More to me and much More in my future than people could see. WOM: What would you say to inspire and challenge our readers to live a life without regrets and operate in their MORE? DGS: On my best days, I could not have accomplished any of the things I am accredited with except by the Grace of God. Here is my challenge to those who aspire to make a difference: people are dying every day never knowing or fulfilling their God-given purpose. Know that you were created to make a difference. Everyone has been pre-destined to win. Find out your purpose in life and go for it.

20 YEARS IN MEDIA WOM: As an influencer, what is your message/platform to the media world? DEDE: It's ever changing, so it's imperative to stay on top of all the changes and new technology. We must also take more pride in our work and understand much more that self-integrity will be needed now and in the future. WOM: What would you say to inspire and challenge our readers to live a life without regrets and operate in their MORE? DEDE: I am a huge proponent of the book "The Secret". It is the book that encouraged me to create a vision board. I encourage everyone to create a vision board, to visualize where they see themselves, their family and career in the next five years. I also believe we can go a step further. One way to do that is to set goals for yourself on a yearly, monthly, and daily basis. Small steps turn into huge advances, which means every day counts! Take chances! After you set a goal and reach it, keep going! There are no regrets in life, only experiences that make you who you are, MORE worldly, MORE knowledgeable and MORE human. Finally, you must always practice gratefulness! The MORE grateful you are the MORE Blessed life you live!

WOM: As an influencer, what is your message/platform to the media world? TLG: As an influencer, it's imperative I encourage media colleagues to operate from a place of integrity. We must carefully curate our narratives in an effort to safeguard and move our culture forward. Disseminating content for clicks is a detriment to the collective work of true storytelling. We must prove to the sophisticated consumer of our work that journalism still exists. Afterall, once the content is out there it is embedded forever in your media footprint, so be careful of the kinds of work you are attaching to your name. 10 YEARS IN MEDIA

WOM: As an influencer, what is your message/platform to the media world? FRB: My message includes that of living in and on purpose NO MATTER WHAT YOUR AGE or current circumstances. I strive for peace, believe in love and, believe that life is like poetry! It is important that we never give up on ourselves or our dreams. Our dreams are merely our purpose trying to get our attention. Living on purpose is a demonstration of respect to the Creator and honors the sacrifices of our ancestors. Living on purpose is NOT optional...we MUST serve using our gifts because it is what we were Born and Divinely designed to do! Period. Point blank. In that Order! WOM: What would you say to inspire and challenge our readers to live a life without regrets and operate in their MORE? FRB: I hope that my life inspires you to rest when necessary but don't quit! For example, as a child, I had a huge imagination for storytelling but, because I was considered "smart", I was placed in a science and math track. As a young adult, I always had a "knack" for entertaining using music, dance and the arts. I have ALWAYS been a writer and poet. I went to college to study Mass Communications but dropped out because I felt the television and radio industries were too restrictive and didn't allow one to have her own voice. Then, life happened, as it does with most women; I married, had children, got a corporate job, etc. My calling seemed to have halted. But, no matter what, I was drawn back to the stage, spoken word, and entrepreneurship. Eventually, I trusted my purpose and pursued it and now at almost 50 years I am doing ALL the things that I imagined I would as a little girl, using my left and right brain, and creating new art using all the things I love (music, acting, spoken word, production and directing) via multiple media platforms including television, radio and live performance.....and, I just got started at age 40!! WOM: As an influencer, what is your message/platform to the media world? DC: As an influencer, my message to the media world is to never give up on your dreams because you never know how close you actually are to them. God created each and every one of us with purpose and specific gifts to fulfill our God-given dreams and desires. There is a reason why that dream won’t go away. You were created to flourish as you live out the dreams God strategically placed in your life. Don’t ever let fear stop you. Fear is a lie. We have to be women who live life courageously knowing that our breakthrough is right around the corner. Lastly, never ever give up. What separates a successful woman from an unsuccessful woman is the fact that the successful woman chose to never give up. She may have fallen a few times on her road to success, but she never remained on the floor. Instead, she chose to try again and continue to persevere through all the circumstances of life. BRENDA DIVERS Heart Ministry Radio Network

2 YEARS IN MEDIA

WOM: As an influencer, what is your message/platform to the media world? BD: As a Christian global media platform, Heart Ministry Radio Network and The Doors to Your Heart radio ministry, was founded by Co-owner and CEO - Brenda Divers. Says Brenda, “What we are demonstrating through our music, message and ministry is that God is concerned about your heart and all the issues related to it.” Through this media platform, her message is to use the gifting that you were given to bless the world. “We all have a unique story that must be told. There are people waiting to hear our message of hope. Also, there is a sound that we send out that attracts people.” Her sound is that of compassion and restoration of the heart. This came out of her desire to serve God and His people via this media outlet. She uses her voice as her instrument and is now intentional about how she cares for her voice. Brenda also agrees with the “Abundance Mentality” that flows out of a deep inner sense of personal worth and security in the Lord. WOM: What would you say to inspire and challenge our readers to live a life without regrets and operate in their MORE? BD: My word of inspiration is simply this: Do the work that you were called to do, and do it with excellence. For Christ will drive the work. Do not waste any experience, but use them as building blocks and course correctors. Go for what God has placed in your heart; for many have adopted the mantra: “Wear out, not rust out.” Media is a gift and we must use it wisely. Instead of speaking venom, speak life, love, and happiness, then watch God work. Death is in the tongue, but life is in the Spirit. Therefore, let the Spirit of God, guide you in your pursuit of excellence. Seek Him first, and He will make your paths straight. For the Earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. JIL JORDAN GREENE Radio and Television

2 YEARS IN MEDIA WOM: As an influencer, what is your message/platform to the media world? JJG: I encourage others to ask for what they want and create a road map to go and get it. When I was in my 20’s I decided I wanted to be a Corporate VP before I reached 40. I requested a mentor, mapped out the plan and it happened at 38. Most of us have big dreams and things we desire to achieve, but we are just afraid to ask for it. The worst thing that can happen is you hear the word no. I promise you if you hear enough no’s, you will get to your yes. ASK for what you want, then create a road map to go and get it! Yes, there will be bumps in the road, rejection along the way, and times of discomfort. But this is all a part of the journey! WOM: What would you say to inspire and challenge our readers to live a life without regrets and operate in their MORE? JJG: Fake Out Fear! Act on Your Plan! Never Give UP! The older I get I realize, some of my dreams have been hindered by fear. Fear shows up in many ways. Self-doubt, procrastination, or just being busy. Have you ever found yourself cleaning your room or organizing your office when you should be building your business? Or do you find your self scrolling through Social Media when there is another productive tough task waiting for you? As I look back, there are follow up phone calls I never made. Follow-up connections I didn’t schedule. Why? There was a small silent fear of rejection. Fear of not being good enough. Fear of not being smart enough. Fear had me busy, but unproductive. Fear had me walking away from the very activity that could take me closer to my goal. Fear visits all of us. But to operate in your MORE you have to F.A.N. FAKE OUT FEAR. Do the opposite of what you feel. ACT ON YOUR PLAN. Taking action against your plan will help you plow through when you feel afraid. NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU. Giving up isn’t an option. WRITTEN BY MARY BYRD

I like to call myself “A Fashionista on a Budget” so I am open to anyway I can feel fabulous on a dime. I can remember growing up and being so embarrassed when my mom would take me and my brother and sisters to the Salvation Army, but little did I know my mama knew where it was at. I have stumbled on so many fabulous and unique pieces at a fraction of what I would pay at the mall, and that makes this bargain shopper oh so happy! Now instead of always heading to the mall, I like to check out my local Salvation Army, Goodwill and consignment boutiques first.

GRILLED FISHthat not everyone has, and it never hurts to try something on to see if it works for you. When you’re grilling fish, keep a close watch. Fish Watch for Sales - Yes, the Goodwill and the Salvation only takes a few minutes per side to cook. If the Army have sale days, including 50% off everything on fillets are an even thickness, sometimes they certain days or special discounts on certain colored tags. don’t even require flipping–they can be cooked Follow them on social media to keep yourself in the know. through by grilling on one side only. Don’t pay attention to Size Tags - Every designer and manufacturer’s sizes are different. For example, I found a super cute dress that said size 4. I am no size 4, but that dress worked for this girl! Always try on. Always check the garment for any rips, stains or broken zippers.

Now, there are certain things that I look for first when I start shopping: Dresses - I’m a dress girl, so dresses are always number one on my list. I start at one end of the rack and look through each item. I have scored many designer dresses for $3, so it’s definitely worth taking the time to look through the rack. Skirts - I love shopping the skirt section. If you are looking for a simple black pencil skirt, you should try a thrift shop. There are a lot of options, many of them new with the tags still on them. Jackets - Let me tell you, I will never buy another denim jacket at the mall again. So, if you need a jean jacket or blazer of any kind, try thrifting first. Purses - What girl doesn’t love purses? And, when you score a designer purse like a Kate Spade at an unbelievable price, what’s there not to love?

I love how thrifting has become such a trend among fashionistas, so much so that people are taking bus trips to different thrift stores. There are even apps like Poshmark that allow you to thrift from the comfort of your home. My statement, “You can be fabulous without breaking the bank” now has new meaning!

“Nerves and butterflies are fine – they’re a physical sign that you’re mentally ready and eager. You have to get the butterflies to fly in formation, that’s the trick.” ― Steve Bull I just wanted to calm my nerves. I remember the feeling I would get when I was asked to speak in front of a crowd. A knot would form in the pit of my stomach, and my chest would tighten with panic as my head started spinning. Then that voice inside my head would get louder and louder, and my focus would immediately shift from what I was supposed to say to what was racing through my head, making my heart beat faster. I would even sometimes forget to breathe causing my voice to crack and my palms to sweat profusely. It was at that moment I knew all was lost, and I would figure out a way to remove myself from the opportunity and situation. Here is a startling statistic, 74% of people on the entire planet fear public speaking. When I read this statistic, I was astonished. I remember how terrified I was with just the idea of public speaking, and this statistic showed that I was not alone. After allowing opportunity after opportunity to pass me by, I finally decided to do something about it. I wanted to control my nervousness and start to speak FEARLESSLY!

Here are three tips to help you overcome nervousness to prepare you to get more comfortable with speaking in a public setting:

You must be more intentional about socializing and speaking up more. You must put yourself in environments where you have the opportunity to speak and share your thoughts and opinions.

2 STOP NEGATIVE THINKING This is a big one! That voice inside of you that YOU control and listen to all the time must be a positive voice.

It is vital that you PLAN PROPERLY & PRACTICE for every speaking event if you are able. Granted there are times where you are put “on the spot” and have to speak off the cuff, but most of the time this will not be the case. Remember, it is normal and natural to fear what you are not comfortable doing. These are just 3 of many tips you can use and are encouraged to implement to push past the fear and manage the nervous energy. Stay committed to the process and pretty soon you will be FEARLESSLY SPEAKING!

S P E A K I N G

FEARLESSLY

Think about it, the fear of public speaking is emotionally draining. It’s like an EMOTIONAL DEATH. Not only do you feel naked and exposed in front of an audience, you think you are going to be scrutinized for every little thing you say and do. The next thing you do is put pressure on yourself to be PERFECT which begins to chip away at your selfworth. Ultimately, we fear the possibility of rejection.

ALI LEVINE I have always envisioned myself designing and creating. I always knew I loved designing clothing, accessories, and handbags for the major companies I worked for, but I always wanted MORE. I realized that I wanted to work with people and recreate their looks -this is how I fell in love with styling. Starting as a production costume assistant many years ago for the great Oliver Stone and Ellen Mirojnick, Shawnique Hill, Leah Katchnelzon, Amanda Riley, Colleen Atwood and many others, I learned so much from their amazing teams and realized I loved the fast pace nature of the industry. With that experience, I moved to LA and began to assist major stylists who worked with Kanye West, the Kardashians, Emma Stone, and more! I then started to get requests from people who wanted to be my clients, and that’s when Ali Levine Design was born. However, I always knew I wanted to be a different type of stylist, not someone who just told you what to wear and why, but who would teach my clients how to dress, give them the confidence they need to succeed and transform them from the inside out. That’s why I always say "confidence is your best accessory." It truly is, and you are all fabulous and worth it! Let your clothing be that statement for you. It doesn't matter where you are in life; it’s all a journey, and that confidence will get you to that next level in all walks of life.

With this, I want to empower you ladies that are reading this article to follow my journey, @alilevinedesign on social media and at www.alilevine.com. To learn how you can work with me, visit alilevinestyling.com. I would love to connect with all of you and transform your beauty from the inside out!

Styling all of these amazing clients and talent has created a fan base for my work, accolades, and my brand. I have created a strong fashion following which has opened up some exciting opportunities for me to style clients on camera, do makeovers on the Hallmark Home and Family channel, and speak about fashion and brands I love on many local and national news stations. But, I still wanted to be accessible to everyday people, so my blog is where anyone interested in my fashion advice can receive tips, sign up for my remote styling services, and personal styling consultations. I am so honored to be a face for Women of MORE because I have learned that I am More. Through my fashion career and brand, I have created a successful business that is always evolving, and I am very proud of myself and all the women out there that empower me to do MORE and be MORE.

Mascara is a staple in most women’s cosmetic bags. It’s also the product with the shortest life span. How long a tube lasts depends on how often you use it. Or does it? Here are a few guidelines to help you decide when to toss the tube.

1

Once you open a tube of mascara, you’ve got about three months to use it.

2

Your mascara is starting to clump and dry out. You introduce air into the product every time you apply it. Some people pump the applicator up and down to get a thicker coat on the brush. This action introduces more air and contributes to drying. Toss it. Don’t

WHEN TO TOSS THAT TUBE OF MASCARA?

WRITTEN BY DENISE M. JORDAN

It smells funny This is a no-brainer. If it smells funny, toss it. Don’t risk using a product that may have gone bad even if it’s only been open a short time. The money you spend to replace the product is a lot less than the cost of treating an eye infection. If in doubt, throw it out.

Needless to say, never, ever share mascara. If a friend needs some, give away an unopened tube or run out and pick one up at the local drugstore. You only get one set of eyes. Take care of them.

How Safe is Your Mascara? Written by Denise M. Jordan

Trying to read through the list of ingredients in mascara is like reading my college chemistry textbook. Both have a long list of chemical names that I don’t understand and have difficulty pronouncing. What’s even more eye opening is that some of the ingredients used to formulate mascara may prove harmful to your health. Ingredients banned in other countries may be allowed in small amounts in the United States. This can make it difficult to choose a product that meets the safety standards you want or need. Let’s simplify this and boil it down to the three major ingredients you need to be aware of – pigments, parabens, and carnauba prime yellow wax. Photo By Manuel Marín

Mascara formulas include a variety of ingredients, each performing different functions but all require some form of pigment to provide color. Today’s preparations often include iron oxides, ultramarines, titanium dioxide, or something similar to darken eye lashes. The pigment to avoid is carbon black, also known as D&C Black No. 2, acetylene black, channel black, furnace black, lamp black, or thermal black, because it has been linked to cancer. Carbon black is banned in other countries but approved with restrictions in the U.S Preservatives are used to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi in makeup and personal care products. Parabens are a type of preservative that has been linked to reproductive problems and breast cancer. The cause and effect are not definitive, but enough eyebrows have been raised to make people very wary. Paraben-free products may be your best option.

Waxes are introduced into formulas to allow mascara to coat and plump lashes. Many of these are some form of carnauba wax. Prime yellow carnauba wax can prove to be a problem because while it’s coating and plumping, it may also be clogging oil glands and causing dry eye disease. Whereas other forms of carnauba wax can be used to good effect, prime yellow carnauba wax is the one to avoid so make sure to check the ingredient list on your mascara product. One of my favorite Bible scriptures is Isaiah 61:3. This passage reminds me that God can and wants to give me beauty for my ashes. Ashes represent the things in our lives that have wounded us and no longer serve a life-giving purpose. We must first understand that we play a part in receiving this beauty. If God is going to give us beauty for our ashes… we need to hand Him over the ashes so that we can receive the gift. Often, we want to hold on to the ashes. Why? Because sometimes the ashes represent a part of our lives that, although we want deliverance, we have not learned to live without and cope without. Our ashes can become such a large part of our identity that we can struggle to hand them over to God and let them go. After carrying my ashes around for over 30 years, I struggled with the thought of adapting to life without them. I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to hand certain things over to God. I wasn’t even sure that I wanted to hand certain things over to God, mainly because I had carried some painful things like a badge of honor because it created me and my strength. God showed me, however, that my new-found strength would be in Him. I wasn’t going to need to rely on my pain to strengthen me. Girl, that was eye opening!

Ashes WRITTEN BY SHAUNDYLL ROGERS Facebook: Shaundyllrogers Instagram: iamshaundyll

Giving up your ashes is a process, but a necessary one if you want to experience the beauty that God wants to give in return for them. In my personal life, the beauty has shown up in the form of restored and healthier relationships, personal growth, marriage, revelation of purpose, and new opportunities, to name a few. So, was it worth it for me to hand over those ashes? ABSOLUTELY! Understand that ashes are the remains of something that has been destroyed. I no longer wanted to hold on to the remains of the things that had destroyed me, and I no longer want you to hold on to those things. There is not a person in your life who can take those ashes and create something beautiful from them. I tried for many years to find someone who could, but God is the only one who can do it. He said, hey, I can actually give you something in return for those ashes - BEAUTY. What an awesome exchange! How can we possibly turn down such an amazing offer? An offer that sometimes almost feels unfair, but it magnifies the fullness of his love and desire to see us whole. I don’t know what your ashes are or what caused them, but you have the choice to hand them over to God. In return, you get a beauty that is not only pure but a beauty for which only God could get credit. How can you possibly say no to that?

8 TIPS ON We work with clients to help them achieve financial freedom, we look at the entire picture while planning for investment opportunities. Contact: Vanessa Lindley E: info@lindleyconsultinggroup.com W: lindleyconsultinggroup.com FB, Twitter, IG: Vanessa Lindley Ph: 866-654-6353

1. Pay Off Consumer Debt Fast Carrying around credit card debt is not only bad for your present it is also very dangerous for your future. Credit cards often charge more than 14% today, and some are often close to 40%. If you had a $2000 balance on your credit card that has 12 percent interest and you only paid the minimum payment of 2 percent of the balance, it would take you over 13 years to pay it off. You’d pay almost $4000...off. That's almost....spent! Start a debt repayment plan ASAP.

2. Pay Yourself First If you set up an automatic payment schedule with your bank or employer to deduct the money out of your paycheck, before you even see it, and put it into a savings account, it will make it easier to build savings. If it’s not in your account, you won’t be tempted to spend it on eating out, movies, mani/pedi’s, kids, etc.

3. Save 6 to 8 Months Living Expenses If you lost your job tomorrow, how long could you pay your bills? Sadly, for most people, it’s just about a month. It may take eight months to find a new job. Figure out what your bare bones expenses (housing, food, utilities, transportation) are if you canceled cable TV and cut back as far as possible. Ensure that you save that amount of money before investing one dime in anything else.

4. Take Free Money When It’s Offered If your employer offers a plan that you can invest in and that they match, take advantage of it because if you don’t, it’s like throwing money in the trash. If they give you free money by matching up to a certain amount of your investment, you should take it.

5. Diversify Investing in just one thing is always a mistake. If your employer offers a plan, definitely invest in it, but don’t make that your only investment. Consider opening an additional investment account, investing in real estate or in a business. You also want to hedge against market fluctuations. Putting all your eggs in one basket is always a mistake.

6. Teach Your Children about Personal Finance One of the best things you can do for your children is to teach them about personal finance. Schools do not teach children about how to take care of themselves financially at all. Give your children an allowance for doing chores and help them save some, invest some, and spend some. Also, be a good role model.

7. Do Your Due Diligence Never give anyone any money for an investment until you have done your research. There is no such thing as invest now or miss out. Research the people, research the investment, and unless you are totally sure it’s a legitimate thing, do not give anyone your money. Ask for referrals and always compare three advisors, companies, etc.

8. Remember What’s Important A big part of financial freedom is having your heart and mind free from worry about the “what-ifs” of life. Money is more than money. Money is freedom to be with the people you love, freedom to experience new things, and even freedom to be healthy.
