Club News

From The Desk of Patrick Lucas

It’s hard to believe that summer has officially begun! Membership is as strong as ever, with over 260 golf members and close to 190 social and golf pass members, we are excited to continue to welcome new faces to the clubhouse. As you may have heard by now, an agreement has been reached with Cherry Hill Township ensuring that Woodcrest will be preserved as a golf club in perpetuity. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to those who have supported Woodcrest over the last two years and extend an invitation to others to join. The pool is now open 7 days a week, 11am – 8 pm, just in time for the record heat! All members and families are welcome to enjoy. Guest passes are available for $10 per person and kids under 2 are free. Children can also enjoy the amazing play set, ping pong table and wading pool. The Grille at the Turn now features a new family friendly menu and pricing with a variety of lunch items, snacks, water ice & ice cream treats and drink specials, all available pool side. The golf course is in great playing condition, with the bulk of our rounds coming from our members. Now is the perfect time to fine tune your game with private instructions. Bill, Jay & Jamie are readily available to assist you with individual or group lessons. As you may have noticed, our tennis courts are bustling with activity. We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Cherry Hill Health & Racquet Club. Top pros are available for lessons and drills, with special day and evening programs for adults and juniors. The programs available are described in more detail below. On the food and beverage side, George Jordan has been working very hard elevating the department here at the club. With some major improvements in food, service and presentation, I hope you are as pleased as I am with our dining program. Also, a special thank you to all of the members who have booked your private events at Woodcrest. We welcome all to make Woodcrest the home of your special events. Sincerely,

Patrick Lucas

Woodcrest is excited to celebrate Women’s Golf Month, all month long! Enjoy this swing tip for women from our favorite golf pro, Jay.

Not Turning Enough? Just because you feel a little bit limited with the turn your making that is not an excuse of not swinging the club on a bigger arc. You can still make a big swing if you allow your hands and arms to do it and you allowed your wrists to hinge. Allowing your wrists to hinge, lets the golf club to set more at the top and will give you a bigger swing arc, even if you have a limited swing turn. Swing the club with your hands and arms under your shoulders even if your body doesn’t pivot as much. You can still increase your arc and that will increase your speed. The amount of swing you have on your backswing will match the amount you have on your forward swing.

HOW TO With GUIDE Chef Mike With Memorial Day weekend just recently passed, pools just opened up and peoples first trips down to the shore means the month of June is upon us. The month of June means different things to different people. For me, it’s all about the start of the summer grilling season, backyard BBQ’s, summer parties and spending quality time with friends and family! I wanted to share one of my go to recipes that will be a hit no matter what the occasion, grilled hangar steaks with chimichurri! Note: I love Hangar Steak. However, you can use any meat you like. Flank steak or skirt steak will work just as well.

Steak Marinade

Chimichurri Sauce

8 cloves of garlic 4 sprigs of thyme 1 c. dry red wine (a little extra if you want to pour yourself a glass) 6 shallots, julienned 2 T. extra virgin olive oil salt and pepper

1 c. lightly packed flat leaf parsley ¼ c. lightly packed cilantro leaves 3 garlic cloves ¾ t. red pepper flakes ½ t. ground cumin ½ c. olive oil 1/3 c. red wine vinegar ½ t. salt

8 – 6 oz hangar steaks trimmed in a shallow baking dish combine all ingredients and add steaks, marinade at least 4 hours under refrigeration or overnight.

10. Woodcrest Word, June 2015

in a blender combine all ingredients and pulse until all ingredients are mixed well and parsley and cilantro are finely chopped. I personally like the bits of fresh herbs when I make my chimichurri, if you prefer more of a puree just blend ingredients longer. Sauce can be made 2-3 hours ahead and leave out at room temperature.

When ready to grill, preheat grill to med-hi heat. Remove steaks from marinade and scrape off any herbs/shallots, etc. Grill over med-hi heat and char on outside turning once. Cook for approximately 5 min per side for medium rare. Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for at least 5 min (this is paramount when grilling any meat that you intend to slice). Once rested slice into strips while cutting against the grain. Spoon chimichurri sauce over meat and enjoy!
