Club news

Dear Members, As you can imagine, after a summer like this I am eagerly awaiting for cooler weather. This has been a summer for the record books. During the last two weeks of July leading up to the Pro-Am on August 2nd, we received over 14 inches of rain followed by some of the hottest temperatures we’ve seen in many years. The extensive rainfall coupled with the extreme temperatures has literally destroyed the turfgrass root systems, compromising the health and well-being of the grass throughout the golf course. Once the weather begins to break, we will begin seeding and aerifying areas where we experienced turf loss and decline. I anticipate a full recovery on the golf course this fall, which will make us even stronger for next season. We are by no means the only golf course in the area that has suffered the effects of the summer. There are many clubs throughout the region that have experienced major turf loss. We will be working hard throughout the fall to get Woodcrest back into the condition we have been known for. As we wind down the pool season, we are already beginning to think how to make it better for next year. I welcome your feedback and ideas on how to enhance that space. A special thanks to many of our members who have already conveyed to me ways in which we can improve that operation for next season. It’s not too late to book your holiday party or special event. George Jordan and the sales team will be more than happy to help plan and make your event memorable. Please support your club and make Woodcrest your special event venue. The fall is a great time to come out and enjoy Bar 1929 and the patio with the fire pits. We will be hosting Friday evening happy hours with live music throughout the fall. This has been very successful throughout the summer months and I anticipate that trend continuing. Bar 1929 is also a great place to come out and enjoy watching football on our large screen tv’s located both inside and outside on the patio. Lastly, there will be many special events taking place here at the club throughout the fall, so please make sure you mark your calendars and come out and enjoy the club. On behalf of the entire WCC team, I thank you for being part of the Woodcrest family. If there is ever anything I can do for you, please do not hesitate to let me know. Kind Regards,

Patrick Lucas

Pro Shop News Junior Camp 2016 Recap The juniors camp is a great way for your kids to enjoy the outdoors during the summer being active playing golf, tennis, swimming and pool activities establishing healthy exercise habits far beyond indoor video games or television. Golf is an active game and less injury prone then contact sports. Conditioning for golf improves strength of core muscles and support the spine, improves flexibility, and allows the kids the opportunity to be active and fit. They get to learn about golf in a safe environment which they get to develop lifelong friendships, develop social skills, and appreciate diversity as golf is a game that can be played for a lifetime by anyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, size, or skill level. It is a game that your kid will learn etiquette on how to behave towards self and others and teaches values such as truthfulness and strength during adversity. Gathering with friends to play golf gives the young golfers the opportunity to spend enjoyable times in friendly individual and/or team competition. The kids that participated in junior camp this year all said that it was a blast and the parents said their kids can’t wait to come back next year!

bar 1929 beer spotlight coming soon! We are excited to introduce new beers on tap from Tonewood Brewery, located in nearby Oaklyn, NJ this fall. Brothers Eli and Taylor Facchinei started the microbrewery last year. When it comes to the product, Tonewood is focused on quality. “I’m not trying to push the boundaries on giant flavors and ‘big beers,’” Facchinei said in a 2015 article from NJPEN. “I want to have very approachable, flavorful products for everybody from the person who does enjoy those giant, big beers to the person that doesn’t.” We are happy to welcome high quality local craft beer in Bar 1929 and hope you give it a try!

Socially Speaking From the Desk of George Jordan Director of Food & Beverage

It is hard to believe that school is back in session, and football season will soon be upon us. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer! Woodcrest has been extremely busy over the past couple of months, and just because summer is ending, doesn’t mean you can’t continue to enjoy the amenities we have to offer. Look for our Football Sunday specials and join us in Bar 1929. We have four large screen televisions for your enjoyment. Also, the Fall Bar 1929 menu will be coming soon. Friday night happy hours will continue on the Bar 1929 patio throughout the fall. Enjoy live music, great food and drinks with your friends and fellow members around our gas fire pits. What a fun way to enjoy those crisp fall evenings! Check the next page, and visit the member portal on our website to learn more about our upcoming events. If for some reason you are not receiving our member emails, please email our Marketing Department: Newsletter@fmgnj.com.
