OCTOBER - DECEMBER 2018

ANKE ADDY SOFIE HAGEN LYNGO THEATRE LEILA ABOULELA HEBRIDES ENSEMBLE BARROWLAND BALLET FLOCK CRAFT AND DESIGN FAIR

Welcome to the busiest time of the Barn’s year! The longer days are starting to give way to longer nights, which we’ve filled with the best music, theatre, film, art, dance, talks, workshops and family events around. Whether your first love is the landscape, live music or literary discussion there are events inside to keep you entertained all season long. And if being hands on is more your thing then we’ve got workshops, themed events and the best Christmas craft and design fair in the region to keep your creative side well and truly inspired. This is also the time to share the news that this brochure will be our last one for a while - but for a very good reason! I’m delighted to report that the Barn has secured a range of local and European capital funding to enable us to deliver more improvements to our venue for visitors and the local creative community. We’ll be creating a larger and enhanced reception area and a new dedicated craft retail/workshop space in our adjoining sheds to showcase the best national craft and design all year round. Works will get underway in October this year and finish in Spring 2019. This will mean that the Barn will be closed from January to March 2019, although we’ll be organising a few pop-up events such as our Burns Ceilidh in other partner venues across Deeside. You can find out more about our plans on the Barn’s website. Meantime, I hope you will enjoy experiencing and taking part in this amazing programme of events over the coming months and from all at the Barn we wish you a fabulous festive season. The images feature the extraordinary landscapes, native plants, birds and mammals, all of which are important aspects of this internationally renowned mountain range. To complete the picture, rivers, lochs, snow, ice, weather, and man are also part of this wide-ranging show. Tuesday 2 October @ 2pm - 5pm

The Barn is delighted to be able to partner with St Margaret’s to tour this exhibition of new work from Newton Harrison and the Harrison Studio to Braemar.

TAKE NOTHING BUT PICTURES

Local landscape photographer, and artist behind ‘The Living Cairngorms’ exhibition, Anke Addy will guide participants of all levels of experience through the basics of plant photography. This inspiring workshop takes place in the Barn’s Wild Garden. Participants will need to bring their own camera, outdoor clothing, and a snack/drink.

The exhibition comprises a series of maps that develop a climate change vision for Scotland based on the principles of the commons we share in the form of air, soil, forestry and water. Harrison also proposes a fifth ‘commons of mind’ reflecting the challenge of arriving at commonly agreed action to address the implications of climate change. The exhibition will also be shown in Taipei from 17 November to 10 March 2019 as part of the Taipei Biennial 2018 entitled Post-Nature—A Museum as an Ecosystem.
