COMPANY OF WOLVES: ACHILLES
Achilles re-imagines the well-known Greek myth in a heart-stopping solo show by Ewan Downie. The work tells the story of the greatest hero of the Greeks during the Trojan War: how his best friend is killed by the champion of the Trojans, his desperate grief, and his terrible vengeance. In a fusion of storytelling, dance and song, Achilles is the story of a man’s exorcism: a burning out of his vulnerability, his rage, and his humanity.
The enduring popularity of this iconic musical comes from a superb blend of songs, romance and excitement. The ticket price includes entry to the film and a cream tea with a special Austrian twist. The space will be set up in a cabaret format to echo the bustle of a Viennese coffee house.
This critically acclaimed work invites us to step beyond the ordinary, and submerge ourselves in the power, passion and grief of one of the most enduring figures of classical mythology.

VAN GOGH AND JAPAN
ELISABETH SCHILLING - FELT
Although Vincent Van Gogh never visited Japan it is the country that had the most profound influence on him and his art. Taking the Van Gogh and Japan exhibition in Amsterdam as a starting point this film travels through France, the Netherlands to Japan to further explore the remarkable heritage that so affected Van Gogh and made him the artist we know of today.
How does fabric make us see, hear, touch, react - and move? Ahead of the launch of our new craft shop Fold, we have invited internationally renowned choreographer Elisabeth Schilling to perform a contemplative and visually stimulating piece inspired by her exploration of textures and materials. Felt is an art installation and performance influenced by touch, and rendered by movement, music and shape. It is a multi-sensory work, where a sculpture becomes an amorphous creature-like structure - appearing almost as an inhabited being. As the dancer moves, skin and cloth transform, materials and textures fuse together to reveal a cascade of moving landscapes and flowing lines.

COLOURS OF SCOTLAND - DYEING TRADITIONS
FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS (PG)
From the earliest times, people have aspired to beautify their material world and the dyeing of textiles using natural materials has played an important role in this. In this interactive talk, Carole Keepax will trace a path through the history of dyeing in Scotland. From the plants and methods used from the simplest rural dyepot through to industrialisation and its cultural, economic, social and political implications, resulting in a range of methods and approaches which can be learned from and still used today.
In the 1940s, New York socialite Florence Foster Jenkins dreams of becoming a great opera singer. Unfortunately, her ambition far exceeds her talent. The voice Florence hears in her head is beautiful, but to everyone else it is quite poor. Her husband St. Clair goes to extreme lengths to make sure his wife never finds out how awful she truly is. When Florence announces her plans for a concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair soon realizes that he’s facing his greatest challenge yet. Based on real life events, Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep star in this light hearted comedy drama. There is a 15 minute interval halfway through the film with free tea, coffee and biscuits.

25 YEARS OF THE BARN
CAR PARK There is an on site car park at the Barn. Please understand that the car park fills up quickly on event nights so we advise patrons to arrive early to ensure a parking space. Our car park attendants are all volunteers who kindly donate their time. We ask patrons to respect our volunteers and cooperate with them if the car park is busy.
Over the last 25 years the Barn has continually improved and developed, and thanks to the efforts of the community, we are proud to have grown to become the largest arts venue in Aberdeenshire. Every year we provide over 100 performances and 200 workshops for audiences of all ages and abilities. However, with funding being tight in the arts sector, we are now appealing to you for help. We have a fundraising target to raise £25,000 in this, our 25th year to help ensure we can continue providing arts for all for the next 25 years and secure the future of the Barn. • £25 - everyone who donates £25 or more will receive 1 x ticket to a celebratory performance at the Barn later this year. • £2,500 – any business who donates £2,500 will become a silver anniversary sponsor of one of our many programme categories and have their logo included in the programme and on our website. You can donate: • online at www.thebarnarts.co.uk/support/donate • in person at the Barn Every donation makes a real difference and we thank you as always for your continued support.
ADVANCE BOOKING RECOMMENDED Tickets to our events are cheaper when booked in advance. We encourage advance ticket purchasing to avoid disappointment. If tickets are still available for events they will be sold at the Box Office half an hour before the performance. Ticket prices include a booking fee where applicable. Gift Vouchers are available. CONCESSIONS Concession means anyone who is claiming benefits or unemployed, students in full-time education, senior citizens, and under-18’s. Children aged 2 and under go free, except where shows are specifically for younger children. Access assistants will not be charged for accompanying a person with a disability.
