JANUARY-APRIL 2020
TENDENCY TOWARDS ROB HEASLIP: ENDLING CLIMATE WEEK NORTH EAST BENJAMIN FRANCIS LEFTWICH BLOOM: CHILDREN’S ARTS FESTIVAL
Welcome to the Barn’s Spring 2020 programme! This season we’re bringing a diverse range of performances, experiences and workshops to our venue. We are presenting over 60 artists and makers showcasing a mixture of national, international and local talent. We kick off with our Spring exhibition Haunted by the Ghost of a Flower, an intriguing multi-media exploration by artist collective Tendency Towards uniting film and repurposed stage backdrops. Equally exciting is our Climate Week North East programme, which includes Loop PH’s immersive inflatable infinity space Osmo, and three remarkable and thought-provoking documentaries, courtesy of Take One Action Film Festival: 2040, Inventing Tomorrow and Eating Up Easter. In true Barn style we will continue to blur the boundaries between art-forms and disciplines. This Spring Tom Bancroft’s In Common, reveal a sonic fusion of electronica, jazz, Scottish traditional music and classical Indian chants. We will also present the world-class collaboration between dancer Karl Jay-Lewin and composer Matteo Fargion in Extremely Pedestrian Chorales - a performance that sits between movement and dance and presents the commonplace experience of the pedestrian as an act of meaning and gentle comedy. The Barn’s annual children’s arts festival - BLOOM has been re-imagined into a two-day outdoor and indoor family adventure that will keep the kids busy all day. Our workshop programme has some distinctive new additions; create your own contemporary jewellery using perspex offcuts with Aubin Stewart or try your hand at Mokuhanga; Japanese woodblock printing. Our Classic Matinee theme is iconic films from the 1960s and features titles such as The Producers and The Italian Job. We hope that you will all find something that you will enjoy and take inspiration from, at the Barn. Simone Stewart Head of Programme
