Projects and Performance Opportunities

WOODEND BARN’S YEAR OF FOOD IN LIFE Throughout 2014 we are exploring the theme of ‘Food in Life’ through various arts and education projects. Taking a close look at the role food plays in our lives, we want to investigate the role of food in bringing communities together, families together; how it sustains us, nourishes us. Woodend Barn now looks directly across the fields at a supermarket – there’s no getting away from the fact that supermarkets are a part of our food chain. How can we challenge the way they work, encouraging our communities to demand better quality food from sustainable sources? Through new commissions, community projects and a varied arts events programme we continue to try answering these questions and posing new ones.

Nicola Chambury Invites you to Lunch Sun 9 Nov 2014, Sun 25 Jan 2015 11.00am to 2.00pm Jewish Chef Yotam Ottolenghi uses food to break down barriers and increase understanding between people. Nicola Chambury will explore this theme over lunch and share stories inspired by living in different parts of Britain and the world. We will cook a couple of Ottolenghi’s recipes and share these over a lunchtime chat. The first of these lunches will explore borders and margins. Please bring a recipe that, for you, breaks down or crosses barriers in some way. The following lunch will explore ‘place’, physically and metaphorically. For this session come with a recipe that is important to you because of its connection with a place, whether physical or metaphorical. This could be a spot you love, a walk, a period of time, or a state of the weather. £10.00 Age 16+

Seasonal Dishes Make a Bowl and Eat From It! Throughout 2014, artist Hilary Duncan has been holding ceramics and drawing classes for all ages. Everyone who attends a class will make a bowl out of clay. Buchanans Bistro will prepare a meal for each season and all those who have taken part in the classes will be invited to share the meal, and their stories, eating from the bowl they have made. The final sessions (to make your own bowl to eat from it!) will be happening at the Barn: 21 Oct to 23 Oct Tue-Thu 10.00am to 12.30pm All ages £30.00/£18.00 conc./£12.00 accompanied children.
