Editor's Letter It is funny what things you turn out to miss and struggle to let go of. My turn in the editor’s chair didn’t come without hiccups and some distorted surreal dreams about the Circum. This made me secretly count the days until I could pass off the buck to Deevya and enjoy sleeping again. This doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. On the contrary the last two terms working on the Circum alongside Miss A Le Roux has been nothing but a blast… But I still looked forward to my freedom. The irony probably lies in the fact that I’m finding it extremely hard to ‘Let It Go’ and I genuinely miss the weight of the responsibility on my shoulders, but I realise the time has come for me to move on and focus on academics (bleh!). So, ladies and gents, this edition is my swansong and might I add that I am quite proud. Thanks to the initiative of Miss A Le Roux we have gone online and in next term’s Circum you can discover why. I hope you enjoy this edition. We attempted to have the perfect blend of factual and fun-toread articles. The Circum has also undergone somewhat of a face-lift and now features a whole new colour palette and quaint graphics. If you have a cool idea or a story worth writing be sure to let the new editor – Deevya Narotam – or new sub-editor – Jacomi Breytenbach – know and not me. My last words? Thnks Fr Th Mmrs. (It should be spelt like that.)

Die dag van die jaarlikse Derby het soos enige ander sportdag begin. Dit was koud en die spanne wat vroeg moes speel het soos gewoonlik gebibber. Tog was dit anders as enige ander sportdag.
DIT WAS DIE JAARLIKSE “CLASSIC CLASH”, DIE DAG WAAROP TWEE VAN DIE BESTE SKOLE IN WORCESTER KRAGTE MEET. Op hierdie dag elke jaar stroom die hele Worcester na Bosvarkpark om hul skole te kom ondersteun, almal teen die koue gepantser in dik baadjies. Dis die eerste jaar dat die nuwe astrohokkieveld ook deel vorm van die verrigtinge. Die Derby het Vrydagmiddag afgeskop met netbalwedstryde. Gim was trots op die wonderlike uitslae, met net een span wat die onderspit gedelf het. Worcester Gimnasium se hokkiespanne het soos

gewoonlik uitstekend gedoen en al die spanne het uitstekend presteer. Net so is ons baie trots op die skaakspan se ongelooflike resultate. Voor die eerste rugbyspan se wedstryd het Gimnasium se dansers vir ons gewys hóé om te dans. Die singsongs was oorverdowend en het vir Drostdy goed die skrik op die lyf gejaag. Die eerstespan rugbywedstryd was die laaste item van die dag, soos deur tradisie bepaal. Die adrenalien het gepomp en dit was ongelooflik opwindend om saam met die skare vasgenael die wedstryd te aanskou. Almal het op hulle voete gespring en gejuig toe Adriaan daardie laaste skop gee. Daarna was daar geen keer aan die Gimmies nie: almal wat kon het op die veld gehardloop en trots uit volle bors “School in Inion” gesing. Al die spanne van die dag het fenominaal gespeel. Elke speler het met passie gespeel en goeie sportmangees aan die dag gelê. Wen of verloor, ons skool is regtig die beste. Hierdie is ’n Derby wat ons vir lank sal onthou.

The first term of hockey “hitoff” with a bang and our hockey players have been keeping the Bosvark name high on the field and the Astro so that by the end of the second term Worcester Gymnasium had scored a staggering total of 110 goals, 70 of which came from pure girl power, whereas a mere 42 goals were scored against us. However the term was a challenging one due to the fact that more than half of our games were played away and not on our beloved astro, but we quickly found our way on grass just like the good Worcester Gimnasium se rugby was hierdie seisoen uitstekend. Nie net het ons eerstespan die Derby 20 - 18 gewen nie, maar hulle het vir Hugenote 36 - 13, Hermanus 19 - 8 en Swartland 'n behoorlike uitklophou van 42 - 7 gegee! Baie geluk aan Mias Coetzee, Bradman Grove en Julian Lodewyk wat vir die Boland Akademie rugbyspan gekies is sowel as Steyn Olivier, Denver Prins, Adriaan van der Bank en Gustav The tension was tangible, the stakes were high and the crowd was wild with excitement as Worcester Gymnasium’s netball girls started off the annual Classic Clashes. The weather was gloomy, and a threatening storm only added to the feeling we all experienced: This was war! Our younger teams started off the day spectacularly, as Worcester Gymnasium defeated one “Donkie” after another. Our defenders were on point, the mid-field was on fire, and the shooters didn’t let the howling winds get them down.

Our terrific teams for this term include the u/14 A boys who have yet to lose a game tallying 20 goals with only one ball against them, and the u/18 B girls with a total of 13 goals and only one against them. Next term we face De Kuilen for interschools, the match we have all been waiting for where the hard work and determination of the last term will finally pay off. A particular team rearing to conquer De Kuilen is the first boys team. First team captain, Brendon Augustus has commented that they are “going all out” and added their team motto, “if God is with us, who can be against us?” They will strive to bring home the trophy and the rest of the Bosvark sports teams will follow. Ending the day with the game everyone was waiting for, the 1st team blew the competition away and sealed the deal – the “Donkies” were sent home with long ears and their tails between their legs. Well done ! We would like to congratulate all the teams with their stellar start to the netball season, and wish them luck for games to come. Congratulations to Nashitah Africa (u/14), Leandré Ketch (u/14), Margot Vlok (u/14) and Natalie van der Vyver (u/16) for achieving Western Cape Netball and Tasneem Oppel (u/14), Cathy-Ann Hugo (u/15) and Joy Fortuin (u/17) for achieving Boland Netball.

Some day in June I went to Stanford University and shook hands with Bill Clinton, the former president of America. To my surprise, his hands are very big! Haha!

Op 25 Junie het 'n handvol Bosvarke uit ons winderige en yskoue winter vertrek om hul Junie-vakansie in die warm en humiede China deur te bring. Ek was bevoorreg genoeg om een van hierdie leerders te wees, maar het met 'n skok besef hoe min ons eintlik van ons vakansieoord weet. Daarom het ek besluit dat dit gepas is om 'n paar van die mees absurde feite oor dié volksvreemde land te deel:

Juffrou Nel haat die winter en kan vlot Duits praat. Juffrou D. van Wyk se atletiekloopbaan het geëindig na ‘n hond haar in die kuit gebyt het; het in graad 8 haar voortande uitgeswem en het begin skoolgee as ‘n graad 1-juffrou.

SKAAK deur CARINA KLOPPERS EN ANDREW BELL
Ten spyte van die skaakspan se wegholoorwinning (9.5—0.5) teen die Donkies, was daar vele ander geleenthede waar ons skaakspelers Worcester Gimnasium se naam hoog gehou het. Tonia Marone, Stuart Steenberg, Mikyle Harris en Andrew Bell het elkeen daarin geslaag om te kwalifiseer vir hul onderskeie Kaapse Wynlandspanne by die Boland. Worcester Gimnasium het ook die eer gehad om gasheer te speel op 16 en 17 Mei toe die Wes-Kaap Skole Skaakkampioenskappe plaasgevind het. Tonia en Stuart het deurgedring tot hul onderskeie spanne. Tydens die Junie-vakansie, toe die res van ons voor die TV lê en hot chocolate drink het, het
Tonia, Stuart, Mikyle en Andrew hul konings gaan verdedig by die Suid-Afrikaanse Ope Skool Indidividuele Skaakkampioenskappe. Stuart het vierde gekom en Andrew het absoluut uitstekend gedoen en ‘n derde plek behaal. Dit beteken dat hy die eerste leerder van Worcester Gimnasium in twaalf jaar is om ‘n medalje-posisie te behaal op nasionale vlak. Ons is verskriklik trots op ons skaakmanne (en natuurlik die dame)! Dankie vir julle voortdurende toewyding en volharding. Ons wag in spanning om te hoor hoe julle De Kuilen tydens Interskole gaan verslaan.

Plato the philosopher once said: “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”This is exactly what Worcester Gymnasium's choir has done this term.
the term - the Stellenbosch Arts Competition. The panel of judges was exceptionally impressed with Worcester Gymnasium's performance, which earned a very high A+ achievement.
With intense practices and good vibes all round, no amount of load shedding would have been able to stop Worcester Gymnasium's choir from stealing the spotlight.
The climax of the choir term was a joint performance of the choir groups of Worcester Gymnasium, Montana, Worcester Noord and Victoria Park, together with the well-known South African artist, David Fourie. This performance was held on Wednesday 27 May in Worcester Gymnasium's school hall where the audience was moved by the beautiful music while the mass choir enjoyed the exhilarating atmosphere.
The choir participated in the Paarl Eisteddfod on Wednesday 13 May. Since it was our first external performance for the year, we were slightly nervous. Nonetheless, excitement and enthusiasm prevailed and yielded inspiring and positive feedback from the judges and especially from the audience. On Sunday the 24th of May, the choir participated in its second competition for

Mad Max: Fury Road: Watch Charlize Theron kick butt as Imperator Furiosa alongside Tom Hardy of Dark Night Rises fame. Ant man: The power of an ant is definitely the last super power anyone would pick and yet Hollywood has managed a range of comic books and a movie from the idea. With Paul Rudd as Ant Man, this movie seems to be a twist on the normal serious super hero movies anf include quite a bit of humor in conjunction with super tiny hero ANT-ics.
