Who run the world? Earlier this month I was lucky enough to attend Beginning Boutique’s International Women’s Day Breakfast held at Kiss The Berry’s South Bank Store. It was a morning filled with yummy acai bowls, meeting some wonderful ladies and of course hearing from BB’s girl boss Sarah and Molten Store’s leading lady, Jessy! I have honestly never felt so inspired in my creative career than I did on this morning. After we mingled for a while with each other, Sarah and Jessy shared with us their success stories, gave us tips on how to tackle this industry head on and answered the questions we were all dying to know the answers to. Personally, the best part of the morning was being told Sarah and Jessy’s success stories. Being someone who is striving to make it in the fashion and creative industry, finding out that Sarah and Jessy are just like the rest of us was extremely uplifting. They’re two women who set out with a dream in mind and didn’t stop until that dream became a reality. It’s a powerful thing hearing from women who have both achieved so much in their lives. They reminded me that there are going to be plenty of low-lows matched with plenty of high-highs and that it’s all apart of the journey. So for any creatives who are currently feeling lost in their own creative mess, don’t fret about it! This industry may be tough but if Sarah and Jessy taught me anything it’s that we can handle anything it throws our way. A million thank you’s to Sarah and Jessy for reminding us to never stop chasing our daydreams and for showing us that girls really are the ones who run the world! (Cue Beyonce) by Michaela Petrofes

Bronte interviews Alfred Music What inspired you to launch your new musical venture? I’ve always been creating different styles of music and producing, it just felt right to do it now. I travelled around the world on tour with my band late last year, came home and felt I was inspired to do something different.

What genre would you describe The Alfred songs as? How will it be different to your previous stuff? I guess the most part of it is very electronic and sample based music. But the idea behind it was to write songs as you would in a “band” outfit but almost transpose everything to an electronic style.

Tell us about ‘You & I’, What’s it about? Unfortunately a break up. I had a long few months after travelling where I wasn’t inspired to write. I knew I wanted to, but I didn’t know how to execute my emotions into a song. I found that moment when it hurt the most and it came naturally from there.

What can you see on the cards for yourself over the next year? Are you still performing in any bands? still performing and djing. But this is the very begging of my journey in this outfit. So it’s all very exciting and I want to do it all.

Lazurah jewellery

by Julia Sansone Epitomising the Brisbane beach boho style, Lazurah is a jewellery label that unites bold, metallic and tribal trends into achievable, everyday accessories for all. Handcrafted with love and great passion, the founder and designer of Lazurah Lisa Corfield dreams of expanding her brand into a global phenomenon, celebrating the beauty of traditional tribal pieces in a timeless, simplistic yet standout way.

Here at Word On The Street we have fallen in love with Lazurah for their beautiful bold pieces and the ability for them to fit into all aspects of life. Lazurah can be worn by the classy and powerful working woman in the city, the adventurous beach-goer who spends her weekends at the markets alongside the water, and even the socialite that enjoys an evening on top of a trendy rooftop bar.

Lazurah can be dressed down to achieve the currently trending ‘casual yet chic’ style, but can also make an evening dress pop out amongst the crowd with a beautiful statement necklace, ring or bracelet. A piece from Lazurah can truly complete your #ootd all season round. For the cold Melbourne winter we are embracing the daring Gold Taila Necklace that styles perfectly with a denim jacket and wide brimmed hat. The Zara and Yasmina bracelet also match gorgeously with dreamy whites and blue beachy tones, helping us to dream of warmer, sunnier days ahead. We have also fallen for the intricate Taila White Howlite Necklace that shows off delicate hand carved white howlite gemstones. It truly is a staple piece to be owned by any fashionista, regardless of the season. The Lazurah girl is described as a wandering free it and one who dresses to impress. She is chic, confident and has the ability to transgress ventional fashion trends. Instead, she creates her

spiredgy, conown!

by Julia Sansone

Me. also has Orange Essence - a beautifully unique addition to the body scrub, giving it a fantastic aromatic smell. Citrus smells do absolute wonders for the body and the mind. When I smell Me. I feel fresh, clean, rejuvenated and ready to take on the day. My Me. scrub has a perfect spot in my bathroom amongst my favourite skin and hair products. The mixture feels and looks great on the skin and being made out of salt and sugar, I noticed it was much easier to clean out of the shower or bath and left less stains.

me. recommends sampling a small amount on your skin before using it over all parts of your body. I have super sensitive skin and I am allergic to things such as sunscreens and insect repellents and soaps which contain heaps of nasty, unnatural chemicals. I had no issue at all with Me. and could use it anywhere on my body, including my face! fter that feel free to hop in the shower, rub the me body scrub all over, focussing on any problematic areas and leave for 3-5 minutes. This is so that all the ingredients can do their magic with your skin and give you the best result – a silky soft, glowing and hydrated complexion. i have happily hopped on the body scrub band wagon and I don’t think I’ll be getting off any time soon. You can shop for Me. body scrub here, Also be sure to check them out and take a selfIe for the @mebodyscrub Instagram!

HOBEs. by Elizabeth Swaiin I am forever on the hunt for perfect footwear. A shoe that has style, but will remain a classic. A shoe that is comfortable, yet doesn’t share any resemblance to crocs. It is a constant battle, but I have fo und a pair of shoes that will last for years to come, and have that added ‘cool factor’. Introducing Hobes, the lovingly handmade shoe that will go with just about anything. The idea to produce beautiful, unisex shoes, with a timeless appeal, hit Georgia Hobart when she noticed a gap in the market for a basic well-made flat. Hobart initially worked with a fourth generation Italian boot maker to bring her ideas and designs to life. The result? Beautiful shoes that are lightweight, great quality, and work well for any occasion. Truly swoon-worthy shoes. There is something a little bit special about owning a pair of these beauties. Not only is Hobes locally sourced and designed in Australia, each pair of Hobes is personally handmaid with new shades in style added throughout the season. Only a limited number of shades are produced meaning that you won’t see everyone walking around in the same pair of shoes as you. Hobes has also collaborated with artist like Leah Goren and Emily Green to create beautiful Hobes with limited edition patterns. The best part? These shoes are lightweight and flexible, weighting in at 200-300 grams per pair, so Hobes is the perfect companion for all your travels. And just in time for our Aussie Winter, Hobes has released a shoe fitted with fleece sourced from Hobart’s family farm. Making them the practical alternative to the ugg boot.

TYRANUS

APPAREL Bronte chats to Charlie Mackay, Designer and Creator of TyRanus apparel.

Tell us about Tyranus Apparel - what inspired starting your label? Tyranus Apparel is a men’s clothing and apparel brand. It’s in memory of my partner Tyson who passed away and who always encouraged me to start my own brand.

How have you built it? What do you do? Tyranus is a label built on the beach community. Essentially I got friends and family to help out, to be photographers, social media managers, production assistants and I do a little bit of everything. I pick the fabrics from local stores and hand-make the garments on a sewing machine in my apartment.

How have you seen it grow over the past year? It started with the occasional shirt sewn every week or so as requested via Facebook or a text. Now we’ve got an online store, a social media presence and 2 amazing interns to help out. The demand has grown so much so that we’ve expanded into merch like tees and stickers.

Are you doing something to help others going through what you have been through? Before Tyson passed away, he made the decision to donate his organs. By doing this, he directly saved the lives of 5 other people, which has inspired myself and Tyranus Apparel to become Donate Life community partners. Through sharing my story, I’ve had the opportunity to encourage organ and tissue donation and promote awareness for the cause.

What inspires you most? I’m inspired most by who and what I love. Tyson will always be a huge influence on the label, my family, friends and the amazing support Tyranus now has. My environment and the lifestyle that comes with it is also a huge inspiration- with the beach right outside my door, it’s the surfers, the skaters and sunbakers that inspire me too.
