The most overrated night of the year...
New Years Eve
A recollection of our worst NYE memories
Sharing your B’DAY with NYE by Lily When the clock strikes midnight every 31st of December and the new year begins, it also marks another birthday for me. As everyone blows their NYE whistles and kisses each other happy new year, they often forget this fact. My birthdays have often involved comforting emotionally drunk friends, holding back friends hair as they vomit or waiting for people to rise from their hungover states. Being born on NYE is definitely more of a curse than a blessing.
Sleeping through NYE by Sam I drank too much and passed out at 11pm. When I woke up at 1.30pm everyone had left and I had missed all the celebrations. Not the best story unfortunately.. Stacking in the New Year by Michaela
Last year I decided it would be a fun idea to do a nudie run with four other dudes. Later that night I was confronted by one of them who said he liked the way I looked naked and he tried to kiss me but I wasn’t interested. It was very awkward.
When my boyfriend and I were in Melbourne last New Years, we were getting photos on the boardwalk in South Bank with the city in the background before dinner in Federation Square. When we went to keep walking after the photos, my heel slipped in between one of the cracks on the boardwalk and I got stuck. I ungracefully stacked it in front of a large crowd and I had to walk the rest of the way limping and a shoe that was pretty much broken!
Ballin in the New Year by Bronte
Ringing in the new year with a bath towel by Liz
Nude Years Eve by Matt
I rang in last new years at Falls Festival in Byron camping with my friends and boyfriend. We were watching one of our favourite bands and I was admittedly being quite a drunken pest when much to my surprise after the show, I got my ass dumped! It was a pretty brutal new years surprise..
I had one too many, passed out moments after the fireworks and woke up the next morning in bed wrapped in my bath towel with no recollection of how it got there.
Happy New Years!

Fashion Forecast It seems that the tides have been turning in 2014. It’s undeniable - the fashion of the globe is moving away from girls in pretty frocks and delicate curls to a more edgy, rebellious and even boyish look. Achieved with hats, bold colours and the messy but oh-so-sexy hair to match, 2014 has been one of our most fashionable years, paving the path for an even more fashionable 2015. Below we have a rundown of our favourite trends of the year that was. In an industry where, traditionalyl, the outrageous individual is king, it seems that we are peddling back a few steps and trading in our outspoken patterns for some wardrobe basics. This back-to-basics trend is the (welcomed) response to the trend of wearing any and every pattern and print possible. While it can be visually appealing to truly embrace the chaos of a print clash,, we’re happy to see that people haven’t completely forgotten about the real heroes of the closets. While it’s fun to mix and match it’s also really fun to ‘dress down’ – this trend says, “yes, I know I can wear all the colours of the rainbow and look fabulous, but I choose monochrome”. It’s possibly the biggest fashion statement you can make and to us, there’s really no greater way to stand out in a crowded room! At the other end of the spectrum, there was a neon and bright colour trend. And then this loud and bold style was turned 2.0 by the metallic trend. Bigger and brighter than silver and gold, metallics are popping up not just on accessories but as statement pieces to turn everyday street and work wear into something fresh off the runway. Metallic silver appears to be a favourite, from sparkly sandals and eyeshadow, all the way to reflective pencil skirts that shine from a mile away, screaming ‘party’ and ‘chic’ in a way that never seemed possible before.
While metallic might be new territory for some, we all know rose gold is nothing new - yet the fashion world is continuing to find ways to leave us wanting more! Things like chunky watches and delicate rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets are universal in pairing with even your most casual outfit, yet they also make a special outfit just that little bit better. Brands like Marc Jacobs and Mimco thrive on rose gold in their products; knowing that it stands out amongst glitter, beads and sparkles but at the same time, never fails to go hand-in-hand with even the edgiest black and leather. It’s a win-win all round and you’ll never look at plain gold in the same way. Back when fashion week was gracing the world, I began to notice a lot more sneakers both on the catwalk and the sidewalk than I was stilettos. I thought I was losing my mind from all the before-show champagnes but luckily I was just finding myself in the middle of one the greatest trends the fashion world has ever given us. The dress sneaker trend is the perfect accessory for any chic outfit as it creates a twist on an old favourite look. The mix of an off the shoulder dress or top with your new summer shoe staple is a great mash-up of feminine and tomboy. It keeps even your stuffy outfits down-to-earth while making a bold, edgy statement that every outfit is crying out for. The dress sneaker is becoming a universal classic as it works with you through every season, making sure to never leave you disappointed! While most people embrace their dress sneakers, a lot hold their doubts about another shoe hero: flatforms. Flatforms have been the perfect way to achieve height and style in a simple and comfortable way, and this trend is going steady into 2015. Whether it’s paired with jeans and a t-shirt or a LBD for a night out, these innovative sandals give the illusion of height without the severe pain that that comes with the average heels. Once you love a pair of flatforms, you can never go back!
Born from what seemed like an accident with a sewing machine a few years back, these uneven yet incredibly effective skirts and tops are also becoming a trend for the modern woman who enjoys simplicity and effortlessly showing a bit of skin. Somehow these skirts seem to tick the professional box when styled with jackets and the right shoes, but can immediately become a ‘night out at the bar’ outfit when that jacket comes off and you let your hair down. There are two ways to go with this style: in a bright, bold colour to stand out amongst a crowd or in a simple monochrome to be as versatile and reusable as hair tie. Either way, the asymmetrical style appears to be sticking around, and for a very good reason. All styles appear to have a common link that can be identified as an ability to operate as both a casual or formal item in a wardrobe; and I believe that is exactly what the woman of 2015 is about! Someone who can work hard and own the streets in the day, then party at night - all thanks to a few statement pieces. I’m a firm believer in smart shopping and saving and I think that our fashion trends are similarly becoming smarter in the way we wear them; and that’s great news for us, as well as our pockets! So come on ladies, we dare you to take on 2015 with these trends and we promise once you do, you’ll be left wondering how you made it this far in your life without them!

Summer Favourites
Temperatures have officially begun to rise and summer loving is upon us. With days being spent lounging on the beach and frolicking in the ocean, it seems our beauty routines need a little twerk from our winter ones to keep us feeling fresh all season long. Our writers Bronte and Mik give an insight to their favorite go-to summer products that help them stay fresh all summer long! If dating one of the funniest guys on earth, popping out a cute bambino and being a widely recognized author wasn’t already enough, Zoe Foster Blake has hand crafted her own incredible skin-care line. This is definitely one of my GO-TO items this Summer (excuse the pun). The branding of the products are not only ridiculously quirky and cute, but they also work a treat. The deliciously light and fluffy ‘Properly Clean’ foaming cleanser leaves your skin feeling fresh and healthy after those sweltering days at the beach or on the road. This teamed up with the ‘Very Useful Face Cream’ is an unbeatable duo. I have also tried the exfoliating wipes and ‘Exception-oil’ and they are next on my list to get. My skin is clearer and less dry, whilst not having too much moisture. Thanks a bunch Zoe for creating this Summer skin saviour. But don’t just take my word for it. Her products have featured in Elle, Harper’s Bazaar and InStyle to name a few. Give them a try for yourself now by heading to: http://www.gotoskincare.com. LUSH is a staple beauty product all across Australia, with their fresh, handmade, organic ingredients and animal testing free policy it’s not hard to see why! I am a self-confessed Lush-aholic and while my collection is ever growing, my ultimate go-to item is their H’SUAN WEN HUA Hair Treatment. This treatment never fails to tame and restore my wavy locks and is my best friend during the summer months. This hair mask improves the overall condition of your hair, making it perfect
for post beach trip use. If you want real life mermaid locks, and lets face it we all do, lather your hair in a coat of treatment, leave in for 20 minutes and wash hair normally. It’s THAT simple! After using an entire tub over a set of months, my hair felt and looked smoother, healthier and was much easier to manage. The damage caused by the sun and the ocean have been reversed thanks to this 225g of goodness and I’ve never looked back! Thanks to LUSH you can live and look like a mermaid all summer long. Frank Body Scrub has been making a mess in bathrooms around the world and we surprisingly don’t mind. This coffee blend scrub has found its way into both Bronte and I’s hearts, as well as onto our skin, leaving us with silky smooth pins that are summer ready 24/7! With three blends to choose from: Original Coffee Scrub, Coconut Coffee Scrub and Cacao Coffee Scrub, it can be hard to decide which you want to get your scrub on with! Lucky for us, all three blends increase blood flow and target cellulite, smooth out lumps and bumps, and most importantly they relive dry skin while improving skin tone. The ideal time to use Frank is after a beach trip, long days on the road or in the air, or after your bikini body workout! After your scrub session with Frank Body, your skin feels amazingly light, renewed and radiant, making it our Number One product for this season! Frank just announced his latest product – Original Body Balm that hydrates the skin even further after you’ve scrubbed. We have yet to get our hands on it but if it’s anything like the ‘tough love’ we’ve experienced, I’m sure we won’t be disappointed. Visit https://frankbody.com/ for all your scrubbing needs.

Best Melbourne Cafes
It is my self-proclaimed duty as a Melbournian to advise our dear WOTS readers about some of the trendiest brunch spots in Melbourne. So here it is… The best of the best spots for daytime grazing in Melbourne !
The Hardware Society
Jam & Cream
120 Hardware St, Melbourne
1 Orr St, Heidelberg West
@hardwaresociete on Instagram
http://www.jamcream.com.au
Located down the end of a small lane lies a quaint little cafe that’s always sure to pull a crowd. A well-known favourite for weekday breakfasts or a lazy Sunday brunch, The Hardware Societe’s mouth-watering food is like devouring dessert for breakfast. The baked eggs with chorizo is definitely a treat and a must have for brunch lovers. I truly can’t speak an ill word about the food, the service or the coffee.
Jam and Cream combines modern kitsch with the charm of going to Nanna’s for a cuppa. It is quite simple but has the best scones in Melbourne. There ‘s charm oozing out of this little suburban café, from the nannavibe interior to the pink caravan in the garden used for additional seating.
Touchwood 480 Bridge Rd, Richmond www.touchwoodcafe.com Touchwood is a spacious cafe located on the corner of Bridge and Burnely Road in Richmond. As the name suggests, Touchwood’s interior boasts plenty of wood. The pine décor stretches on throughout the cafe tables and onto the (sometimes) sunny deck area. Touchwood’s menu offers a tonne of tasty and unique dishes and I would strongly suggest the breakfast board or the peanut-butter and jelly waffles.
Elizabeth Swain
If you want a wide variety of teas and fuzzy childhood memories, I would suggest this place in a heartbeat for all your favourite homemade delights.
15 Pounds 21-23 Railwail Place, Fairfield This place is a Fairfield favourite and for a good reason. 15 pounds is probably the cumulative weight you will put on after gorging on the delicious food and coffee on offer there. With the breakfast menu ranging from homemade hash browns to hot cakes paired with a consistently good cuppa coffee, 15 Pounds is the perfect place to start your day. There is a real homely vibe at 15 Pounds, maybe it’s the rustic kitchen, the crates of fresh fruit and vegetables or the lemon tree in the courtyard. Either way, this little gem is definitely worth the trip to Fairfield.

Homestyle
There really is no place like home, so why not make your home beautiful and weird and full of life? We’ve compiled our favourite home wares of the moment that’ll inject vitality into any space. Meet the Shape Shifter Gold. This gorgeous wall-hanging from KarenKimmelStudios is an “exploration of colour and movement, of form and finish” and ain’t it cute. Made up of “shimmering purple, gold foil, mint, seafoam, antique gold, pink pearl, olive and ivory gloss” it looks like a mass of delicious pastel clouds. Available from KarenKimmelStudios on Etsy.
Let there be light! Weird geometric, caged light. Grab this Magical Thinking Geo Diamond Pendant (what a mouthful) from Urban Outfitters to add a masculine counterpoint to a girly room.
A cup of hot tea is the homeliest thing in existence. All you tea lovers will no doubt be au fait with T2’s range of amazing teas and ceramics, but check these bad boys out: the Dippy teacup. These are amazing cups to drink from because of the size and shape of the cup. Nice and capacious (so you can fit more tea in) and with a handy, deep lip (less spillage). And the colours, the deep blues, pinks and oranges, are so beautiful.
Cute planters. There’s a reason succulents are the most popular plants in school this year. They’re hardy, practically thriving on neglect and, in the right circumstances, they propagate wildly. They’re also beautiful and a little weird, which is why these little recycled plant pots are the perfect house for them. Made in Calfornia by Thrifted and Made, these cuties are crafted with love and care. Some are even made from repurposed urchins!
