A little bit of history

The name comes from the Anglo-Saxon meaning ‘homestead’ and the area is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. Originally a spa destination in the 18th century, Hampstead declined in the early 19th century before growing exponentially when the arrival of the railway connected it to the centre of town in the 1860s. Lavish residences sprang up to cater to the population of wealthy commuters and the area retains this period charm and sense of heritage today.

Why move to Hampstead?

It is a popular choice with city workers, affluent families and celebrities alike due to its stunning architecture, strong transport links and access to green space, including the sprawling Hampstead Heath. The many eateries, theatres, cinemas, museums, galleries and sports facilities mean there is never a dull day in Hampstead. In addition the volume and high quality of education facilities in Hampstead is a draw for many people and is one of the reasons many move to the area.

Some say that living in Hampstead means you’ve reached the pinnacle of London life. The NW3 postcode is one of the most sought after (and affluent) in the UK. It offers peaceful, idyllic village settings just a few miles away from Central London and buzzy areas like Camden. Celebrities, artists, writers and poets have called Hampstead home, taking advantage of its inspiring cobblestone streets and vast open spaces. If you’re thinking of making a move to Hampstead, read on and take your own inspiration from all the things to do and see in NW3.
