Tell us a little of the background of Blueprintz? Blueprintz was set up to offer clients no obligation access to an Architect to run through initial ideas and the aspirations that we all contemplate for our homes. This could be in relation to their current home, or on a house they are contemplating buying. We are here to give ideas, answer questions on budgets, planning and listed building constraints, to demystify trade jargon or simply to spend an hour running sketching some possible designs so that our clients have some initial plans to take forward.

What types of projects get your team most excited? To be frank, we love all projects, but it is the domestic market and helping to create a ‘home’ that we love. Working with older period properties and modern homes each offer their own enjoyable design challenges. With older and existing properties it’s about balancing the old and the new. With a new build it’s all about understanding the site to create a great home. At Blueprintz the Architects that work with us have experience in everything from Listed Buildings to one off ‘Grand Design’ homes as well as sites with multiple homes, such as self build schemes.

Which aspect of your job gives you the most satisfaction? We get a huge amount of satisfaction helping people see what they can achieve with their home or site. It could be a simple conversation about what their budget can achieve, or what can be created within the boundaries of permitted development or Listed Building Consent. As an Architect, it is great to have that moment when you sketch a quick idea with your client and they say ‘We hadn’t thought of that!’. Seeing a client get enthusiastic about a design is very rewarding.

What words of encouragement would you give a potential client who is hesitating to make that initial phone call? I would say to just give us a call. Architects are passionate about helping people create the home they want. That first hours’ chat will help to dispel any myths you may have heard about what you can or cannot do, perhaps inspire you to think ‘outside the box’ and provide you with ideas to develop as you work towards a final plan.
