Take a ride on the

wild (coast) side

S

ummer is upon us and what better way to celebrate the warmer weather, longer days and the exquisite beauty that is the Wild Coasts than experiencing it from a thrilling new vantage point? Wild Coast Horse Riding Adventures, which operates out of Kei Mouth, is one of the Eastern Cape’s most popular and established horse trail tourism operators, with a range of horse adventure options. Whether you’re an experienced rider or new to the saddle, experienced guides and an intimate knowledge of the terrain and local conditions will ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for the whole family. Wild Coast Horse Riding Adventurers is owned and

operated by Julie-Anne Gower and her team of experienced horse riding trail guides. “We love horses, horse riding, endurance riding, and the sea; and, of course, beautiful Kei Mouth and the great Africa outdoors. we are very grateful to be able to live and work and love doing what we do.”Horse riding along the beaches of the Wild Coast of South Africa offers some of the most stunning and varied riding terrain found anywhere in the world. At the Great Kei River, a pontoon will transport you and your horse into rural Africa where sleepy tribal villages await you. As you ride through undulating hills, comfortable hotels are nestled in coves along the coast, providing perfect stop off points for the horse and rider.

Our wide variety of horses are suitable for all levels of rider. For advanced riders, endurance fit horses make the pace fast and exciting. Rolling hills, deep gorges, and cliff tops that plunge into the ocean ensure that this is not just a beach ride; it is an adventure on the edge of Africa! Riding options include: •

A relaxing, 90-minute beginner’s ride, which takes riders down the golf course, through the sand dune forests and on to the beach at the river mouth, or, depending on the tide, down to the Morgan Bay beach. The slightly more strenuous 2 ½ hour Morgan Bay Cliff Top Beach Ride for riders who want to do more than just a walk and who are comfortable in trot and canter.

A full-day beach ride across the Kei River. This ride is for intermediate and advanced riders who are comfortable on horseback (you can post to trot & canter). Your trail starts with crossing the Great Kei River by ferry, and then canters along the beach take you to a hotel for a tasty pub lunch. Alternatively, you can choose to bring a picnic and go the waterfalls.

Riders who want to make a weekend or short holiday of it, can stay overnight at Kei Mouth Guest Lodge, also owned and operated by the Gowers. Book your ride at least one day in advance by calling 0825670972 or use the online booking form at http:// www.wildcoasthorsebackadventures.com/day-rides. php

WHAT’S ON MOTORING

HYUNDAI TUCSON & CRETA

FACE LIFT By Gerry Gericke. SAGMJ yundai just keeps on getting better through the years and this is evident in the latest face lift of its most successful SUV models – “Tucson and Creta” Both models have been launched with fresh new design features and new gearboxes with the trend to demand more automatic gearboxes by the buying public. The latest automatic gearboxes with up to ten gears are already being sold in SA. Hyundai are already offering their new 8-speed gearbox in the new Tucson. Hyundai attributes much of its success to its participation in the World Rally Championship which they are now leading. The motorsport adage “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday applies!” The Launch test route encompassed twisty and undulating roads in Gauteng which is all high altitude, yet the test cars all had an abundance of power and performance enhanced by turbocharging. Part of the route utilised some rough gravel roads which endorsed the solid feeling that the SUV’s combined with their awesome sound deadening inside the passenger cockpit made motoring an absolute pleasure. We have seldom been so impressed with SUV models of this calibre. Buyers can include optional Navigation modules at an extremely cheap price if it is not included as standard.

H

Inside the cabin the driver is surrounded by a plethora of features, all designed to make motoring safer and more comfortable. We especially liked the power of the drivetrain with inter alia, the blind spot detection radar, electronic stability programme and vehicle stability Management. The all new infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen and cross traffic alert detectors are a brilliant safety feature. Sensibly Hyundai provides full size spares across the range. One of the main reasons for Hyundai’s success is the incredible low cost they incur through their warranty. VERDICT: Hyundai caters for every taste with its incredible range of SUV models which are packed with the latest technology and safety features to such an extent that a renowned Motoring Journalist remarked that the only feature missing from Hyundai was a luxury German Manufacturer’s badge! Besides having the best Warranty in the business, their quality is unsurpassed and improving every year. Buyers can look forward to the new Kona in October and a new Sante Fe in November 2018, which will further strengthen the range. We are short of space to report on all the features of this magnificent SUV range so please pop down to your nearest dealer and test their newest models.
