Celebrating Spring It’s time to pack away those winter coats, blankets and boots and begin celebrating spring – a time of year full of promise and potential. While the first day of spring is not always the first spring day, we should rejoice regardless knowing that one means the other will surely follow. Now is the time to prepare your garden and home for family and guests who visit during the December holidays. Make the effort and you will have your guests going home after their holiday marvelling at how fabulous your garden and home looked this year. If you start in your garden now, you’ll have plenty of time for seeds to grow and hanging pots to flower. A few packets of seeds are often
all it takes to change the look of your flower beds. If you don’t mind getting your hands dirtier, buy the seedlings available from your local nursery – at least this way you know exactly what colour the flowers will be and there is the added bonus that you won’t have to space them out as you would the seeds once they sprout. Keep in mind a few artfully placed pots or garden sculptures can go a long way towards drawing a visitor’s eye away from an area in the garden that always seems to look untidy. A well-placed garden bench can soothe the soul and there is the added bonus that it’s the perfect spot to escape from visitors when things get too stressful in the kitchen. By

December plants would have grown around it so it will look like it has always been there. As for the house – you could go all out and hire some painters for inside and out or just get the roof high-pressure cleaned and leaves and litter cleared from gutters and drains. Don’t forget a touch of new paint or varnish on garage doors, front doors and any pots or features leading up to your front door will go a long way to improving on that first impression. A low-cost new look inside could involve picking a feature wall and painting or wall-papering it and adding some new cushion covers and vases to complement this new colour. Don’t forget to tidy out cupboards – we all know how nosy certain guests can be and there are plenty of charities, churches and Good
Samaritans out there that know exactly what to do to give your well-loved clothing, toys and other household goods another lease on life. Pet dogs, particularly those that spend a large portion of their time outside, will being losing their winter coats. Step up the grooming or increase their visits to the parlour. They will thank you for it! If there is anything you’re looking for that you can’t find in our September issue, give us a call - we are pretty sure we will be able to put you in touch with someone that can help.
