If your brochure is not being featured on a display rack, it means you lose an opportunitywith us to present your product or service to visitors, #tourismmarketingforresults and at the precise time they are actively exploring what to do, see and enjoy nearby. When visitors are viewing a display rack, they "Sorry, you just didn't are likely to be in your area and close to you. come to mind" The decision to visit you or spend on your goods or services is therefor an easy one. They want action ... and they want it now ... but you are invisible to them, so they look at other options. Therefor ... • They never get to relax and spend time and money with you – perhaps on dining or gift shopping. • As they never got to visit or buy, they cannot act as your ambassador, recommend you, praise your brand or tell their friends and relatives of the great experience they had. • They can never Tweet about you, blog about you, like you on Facebook or write favourable reviews online.

SEPTEMBER IN THE GARDEN

The Camp Fire plant (Crassula capitella)

The weather is changing, and it is much more fun to be outdoors. This is also a great time to focus on our gardens. The Crassula capitella is an indigenous perennial succulent that is wonderfully water wise! It likes to grow in well drained soil in full sun and is exceptionally hardy and drought tolerant. Do not over water but rather let it be on the dry side, where it will happily perform in any garden. This succulent’s fleshy leaves start as lime-green and then mature to a bright red colour. Red colours will be outstanding with longer sun exposure and green colours will be prominent if planted in shade conditions .The Camp Fire Plant produces small white flowers on a stalk in summer. Bees, butterflies and insects are attracted to the flowers and this brings a host of other animals onto the garden. Should Crassula capitella become overgrown divide the clumps and re plant. They perform well in window boxes, containers and rockeries or why not try them in areas where irrigation is not possible; verges drive ways or public spaces. WHERE TO BUY: Floradale Nursery – East London, Builder’s Express. Or simply share with a friend!

WIZARDS ON WHEELS show set to rev East London Don Bryce

S

aturday 30 September will see the 13th annual Wizards on Wheels show taking place at Port Rex School. The event was founded in 2004 by previous Border Street Rod Classic and V8 Club chairman Johan Hattingh and his wife Joyce, who saw the need for an event in East London where all the car clubs and petrol heads could get together and show off their vehicles. Organiser Leslie Thomas says that compared with other car shows he has attended around the country, WOW is pretty much up there with the best of them. “A lot of preparation and organisation goes into putting it together, and we try and cater for the whole family, with the inclusion of food stalls, entertainment for the children and the mini flea market. The revamped fathers’ and old boys’ club, now renamed ‘The Tool Shed’, will be open for the thirsty and those wanting to follow sport on the big screen. There will also be the usual after show braai. Braai packs will be on sale and it’s open to anyone who would like to join us”.

Exhibitors don’t need to belong to motoring clubs, the show is open to any interesting vehicle whether it be a car or a bike or anything that is considered special and worthy of being shown off: Thomas quotes the show’s slogan: “ ‘We want your car and anything extraordinary on wheels’. Even if it is a work in progress, and you are able to get it to the show, you are more than welcome. “A lot of interest has already been shown by the various motorsport clubs, with a number of karts, racing cars, bikes, stock cars, drift cars and 4x4’s to be displayed this year. “The public can expect a top class show of vehicles ranging from Vintage to Modern, from Classic to Exotic and everything in between. Exhibitors have the opportunity of displaying their vehicles to the public and meeting and chatting with fellow exhibitors about their pride and joy. WOW is all about showing off your vehicle and attracting the attention that it deserves. We all know the amount of work that goes into keeping our vehicles in pristine condition”.

There is still space for food stalls, craft stalls, flea market stalls and commercial stalls, so whether it be Dinky toys, clothing, car parts, sweets and treats or whatever else you would like to sell, bring it along. Cost per stand is only R100, and anyone interested in having a stall on the day can contact Heather Bridger on 076 144 8376 or 043 736 2698 to book a spot. The event is gaining popularity around the region, with exhibitors from out of town eager to attend. Expected are a large number of vehicles from Port Elizabeth, with the East Cape Street Rod Club giving their full support, and also vehicles from Queenstown, Bloemfontein and other centres.

Anyone interested in displaying vehicles can contact Vaughn Smith on 082 345 8086 or Leslie Thomas on 083 412 8138 or e-mail lesliet@ telkomsa.net As usual, new-car dealers are more than welcome. Contact person for the new-car stands is Barry Gradwell on 083 518 9600. Vehicle exhibitors have free entry for driver and one passenger. Cost for spectators is R30 for adults and R10.00 for scholars. For a nominal fee of R5.00 there will be safe and secure onsite public parking. Gates will be open from 07:00 for exhibitors, who must be parked and set up by no later than 09:00. Gates open to spectators at 10:00.

Connecting with your community Helping someone in need is easier than you think! By merely collecting your bread tags and plastic bottle tops, you can be part of an important initiative that provides wheelchairs to those who might not otherwise afford them. PNA East London, situated in Old Transkei Road, is the official drop-off point for Tops and Tags in East London. So get collecting! This is a great way to help disadvantaged people, while at the same time doing your bit to reduce plastic in the environment.
