Stroger Cosmetic Industry in India during 2015 Consumer interactions with beauty can be extraordinary, fragile and complex. This relationship is one that is ever evolving during a consumer's lifetime. Over the next ten years how consumers shop, interact and think will affect this dynamic relationship, and the beauty industry must adapt to stay ahead. India's retail beauty and cosmetics industry, currently estimated at $950 million, is likely to almost treble to $2.68 billion by 2020, experts said. Annual growth in the Indian beauty and cosmetics markets is estimated to remain in the range of 15-20 per cent in the coming years, twice as fast as that of the US and European markets. "India's cosmetics market is reportedly growing at 15-20 per cent annually, twice as fast as that of the US and European markets. Demand for skin whitening products by men as well as women, is driving the trend but other beauty products are not far behind. Over the last five years, cosmetics products have seen a growth of 60 per cent. Skin care cosmetics have experienced a relatively slower growth and products such as anti-wrinkle creams, cleansers and toners are not as popular as facial creams, moisturisers and fairness creams in this genre. Companies like Pond's and Fair & Lovely top the list in this segment. The number of salons have also gone up. Its growth rate is 35 percent. Cosmetic treatments are also growing at the rate of 5 per cent. The hair and beauty industry is seeing a per capita annual spend of $1.2 which is expected to grow to $ 6.2 by 2015. The spa and body treatment segment is estimated to grow approximately $772 million over the next five to eight years. Two out of the three leading players in beauty and personal care remained international in 2015. This is because the leading international manufacturers have the strongest retail distribution across India, and their products are available across all retail channels, including at the lowest-priced stock keeping units. This helped them to tap into both the rural and urban consumer base. As internet retailing in India is expected to register the strongest growth in terms of retail value sales, sales of beauty and personal care products via this channel will also increase. This will be driven primarily by mass brands, as consumers will not mind buying the same brands

Braid bun: Braid your straight hairs .Tuck in end and secure with bobby pins. Low ponytail: Part the hair in middle. Pull back into low ponytail and secure. It will suit on all faces. Vintage curls: These curls are very simple. Divide the hair in to small sections. Curl them until all head is curled. Twist curls together with your fingers. They will look natural and you will look beautiful. Small twists in to bun: Start with hair partition twist one back and pin up with the bobby pin. Then pull the rest of your hair into low messy bun .Pull some hairs from the bun to give a messy look, it will look beautiful. Three mini twists: Divide hair into three equal sections. or thousands of years, men and women of all countries and races have shared the tragedy of pre-mature hair loss.
According to Ayurveda, the hair is derived either as a by-product or produced as a breakdown product of Asthi (bone tissue). Any disturbance in this tissue metabolism, which very much depends on the digestive fire, can affect the health of the hair. To a certain extent, the quality of hair depends on the body constitution. The reason for hair loss is a subject that no two doctors, seem to agree on and everyone seems to have their own opinion on the subject. The major causes of hairfall are hormonal, nutritional deficiencies and complication to other diseases and medications. Hormone related hair fall may also result from an increased sensitivity of hair follicles to male hormones or due to greater number of male hormone receptors attached to hair follicles. This is the component that is inherited through the genes — termed as Pitta constitution. According to Ayurveda, excess of Pitta dosha in the body is increased by hot climatic conditions, excessive intake of spicy, salty and sour food, hot and sharp food, tea, coffee, alcohol, meats and excessive smoking. Eating too much fried, oily, greasy, and acidic foods also aggravates Pitta. Pitta balancing herbs (Eg: Shatavari —Asparagus) and vegetables which improves the quality of Asthi dhathu (Eg: bitter
vegetables) are effective in treating hair fall. There are a number of other causes for hair fall like acute illness, high stress, and thyroid imbalance, certain drugs, sudden weight loss and high fever. The first step is to locate the root cause in your diet or lifestyle that may be increasing the Pitta dosha. Once you locate it, try to give up or at least reduce the diet, habit, or activity responsible for increasing Pitta. Internal use of Ayurvedic medicines like Thikthakam kashayam, Thikthakam ghritham as per medical advice are effective to correct the metabolism. Ayurvedic general tonics like Narasimha rasayanam, Chyavana prasam are effective for improving hair growth. In alopecia, due to systemic diseases, treatment of the same is also required. General recommendations and tips to maintain the results are some of the following: - A high protein and an iron rich diet is recommended for hair loss. An adequate intake of raw vegetables, fresh fruits, salads, green leafy vegetables should be included in the diet on a regular basis. - Use a natural shampoo to clean the hair. Amla (embilica officinalis), Shikakai (Acacia concinna) are very good for washing the hair. - Oiling and massaging of scalp is very beneficial for stopping the hair loss. Use coconut oil at least three times in a week. Certain medicated oils like Neelibhringadi oil, Kunthala kanthi oil,

Kanjunnyadi oil are very useful. Put oil on the scalp, and massage gently in the roots of the hair. - The person should maintain a regular bowel movement everyday. In case of constipation, a mild natural laxative can be taken. Triphala is very useful. - Regular physical exercise is very beneficial as it helps in balancing the aggravated doshas. - Rub your scalp after washing the hair. It increases the blood circulation, and activates the sebaceous glands. - A mixture of lettuce and spinach juice is good to drink to induce hair growth. The juice of carrot, and lettuce juice is also good to take. - Applying juice of green coriander leaves on the head is also good. Washing the hair with a paste of cooked green gram and fenugreek (methi) two to three times a week, is also good. - A paste of licorice made by grinding it in milk can be applied in the bald patches. - The seeds of fenugreek is soaked in coconut oil and kept under direct sunrays for seven days and applied to the scalp, which prevents hair loss. - Traditional therapies like Dhara, Abhyangam, Thala pothichil, Nasya shows excellent effects.

MG: First of all, Cosmoprof HK has always been an excellent platform for United Brands and for our products. Not only for Asian market, we would like to specify that for us it is a pleasure to meet our clients from all over the world. It is the perfect occasion to deepen our collaboration with our strong and trusted partners and to meet new and promising contacts: from Europe, Australia, Middle East and of course Asia. Regarding the Asian market, we do focus on offering special formulations to meet the needs of different weather conditions and skin types. We developed for this market a new color: black shiny, fast-drying, smudge-proof, water-resistant,
long-lasting and stain-free that we offer it in combination with one of our latest innovative applicators : a very thin tip, extremely soft, the perfect tool for emphasizing the eyes. BFW: Explain the differences between the various types of Lip Liners, Mascaras, or Eye Products, etc. available in the market. MG: This is a truly wide topic. It will take hours to look and compare all these products on the market. What is most important to look at, at least from the customer’s perspective, it is not only these products’ performance but also the ingredients used inside the formula! As you know, every brand has their own Black List. This speaks not only about their image, but also to the quality of their products. By constantly developing new formulations we always manage to offer something for every brand. As long as there is demand there will be supply. It is really all dictated by the client and what the client needs.
From our side, when comparing the demand for Liquid Liner Pens throughout the different markets, we can definitely say that size matters. For example, in America, we see a tendency for Big (Jumbo –sized) Eyeliner pens. In fact, the bigger the better, since customers feel like they get more value out of the product. However, in Asia one observes a totally opposite trend. If we look at the Japanese market, it is clear that very fine, very small and precise eyeliners are preferred. BFW: Is department store makeup superior to the products found at the drugstore? MG: It is very difficult to give a general answer to such a question. Every country and market has its own characteristics and shopping culture. Purchase preferences differ and also drugstores often sell expansive brands. But anyway, there is a general market tendency
towards an increasing quality that for instance can be seen in the growing importance of cosmetic regulation all over the world by banishing harmful ingredients and intensifying documentation rules. As a consequence, the quality of color makeup is rising quite a lot, which ultimately leads to standardization and improvement of ALL makeup products. The bargain hunters and drugstore clients are the winners – they get high quality makeup for a moderate price. But if you are seeking for intense consultation, the department store might be still the better choice. Anyway, as United Brands is producing for several large international brands, its products can be found in both types of stores. BFW: What are the new makeup trends especially for eye, lips and eyebrows that we are going to see in 2016 seasons? MG: Regarding eyeliners, the black ones always seem to rule. They are timeless, though shade and the line shape are subject to constant and intense modification. In parallel, trend coming directly from the runway this year is going to be blue eyeliner. Furthermore, especially eyebrow care has recently been brought into the focus of interest. To meet those requirements, United Brands has several new colors and applicators; perfect to draw an ideal line and pretty easy to use: with brush applicator, trio and felt tips, just to name some…. Moreover, the general interest concentrates on bold and power lips: here we are! United Brands offers the fitting beauty tools in order to underline the lips perfection: vibrant lip liner pens and lipstick
pens in strong, warm and dark colors. BFW: Your personal advice (or favorite makeup care product) for the woman who wants to take good care of her look also during the cold, winter season. MG: As just mentioned above, black eyeliner pens seem to never go out of fashion. They are suitable for everyone and I – myself, do use United Brands black eyeliners every day. Especially the thinner types can be easily combined with other colors – I do personally like to use green or even fuchsia coloring in winter period. The predominant colors in our clothing during the winter season are always so dark and… well I would say a bit sad. So by using colorful eyeliners I always manage to “spice” my look up! The advantage of United Brands ’ formulation is that the line is lasting all day long and doesn’t have to be
renewed or corrected. BFW: How do you see towards Cosmoprof Bologna 2016 show in promoting your products, will you be presenting live workshops to show how your products works? MG: Cosmoprof Bologna has always been the most important beauty exhibition to officially launch our novelties. Many people of our Sales team will be on site introducing the products to existing as well as to new clients from all over the world. Workshops? A
s beauty care packaging continues to evolve, brand owners need new and innovative ways to differentiate from competitors. What’s the best way to stand out? Develop an emotional connection with your end user. The emotional connection between consumer and brand plays a more important role in beauty packaging than any other category—these are the products that help consumers look and feel their best. And one of the most important tools brand owners have at their disposal for creating this emotional connection is packaging.
At MWV, we study packaging satisfaction to help brands deliver on their promises. Our inaugural Packaging Matters research revealed significant gaps in packaging satisfaction and opportunities for brands to improve packaging. According to Packaging Matters, only 17% of consumers are “very satisfied” with beauty packaging, providing significant opportunity for brands to improve packaging to further meet consumer expectations. Going Beyond Just Packaging Packaging should delight in use, both functionally and aesthetically.
MWV found beauty packaging performs very well on shelf appeal features, such as attractive and distinctiveness, but these attributes are relatively less important to overall satisfaction. Beauty brands excel at persuading consumers to choose one product over another from a crowded shelf, but once the product leaves the store, well, it’s a different story. Packaging Matters revealed brands spend the most time, money and energy to make products look beautiful on the shelf, but not enough time on meeting the functional packaging needs of consumers. In contrast, beauty is underperforming in attributes related to the functionality of the packaging. Think about the implications for your
brand: a luxury perfume that drips out of the bottle instead of spraying in an even mist, or a cream with a dispenser that delivers too much cream per pump. When these functional aspects of packaging fail, they have the potential to negatively impact consumer opinion, driving a negative emotional connection and providing a reason to try a competitor’s product next time. MWV’s research also found that among the “functional” attributes that frustrate consumers most is the inability to get the entire product out of the package for use. There have been reports of consumers cutting the ends of tubes or placing products in the microwave to ensure that they are using every

ounce. Consumers want the most for their money and demand that packaging allows them to get every last drop. This is one of the most basic, functional components of packaging. Significant gaps found in other functional or structural packaging features include: protecting from breaking or spilling and maintaining product integrity. The Packaging Matters research revealed consumers are most satisfied at the point of purchase (49% satisfied), but satisfaction actively declines throughout the product lifecycle—from transport (47% satisfied), to use (26% satisfied) to disposal (26% satisfied). This means your brand promise, as communicated through packaging, ends at the store. It is those same functional attributes of packaging that matter through the later stages of the product lifecycle
(easy to open/reclose, easy to pump/dispense, and maintaining product integrity). This means improving structural elements can help increase satisfaction after the product leaves the store shelf throughout the packaging lifecycle. While form may help sell a product on the shelf, function can play an important role in repeat purchase. Making It Work Let’s apply the Packaging Matters findings to the fragrance segment. The effort to develop and market a new luxury fragrance may be rendered useless if the spray head underperforms on functional expectations, leaving the consumer disenchanted with the brand and less likely to make a repeat purchase. Whether a fragrance spray is fine and powerful with a whisper sound, or long and uniform with a weightless, sensual feel,

MWV’s research shows functional components of packaging can create an emotional connection with consumers. This emphasis on function over form contradicts conventional wisdom, but carefully designed packaging can delight consumers throughout the product lifecycle. As consumers continue to trend toward online shopping, aesthetics and shelf appeal will become even less important as consumers make purchasing decisions based on recommendations from Facebook friends raving about a new beauty product or review from users on Sephora.com. Yesterday’s retail shelf has become today’s Facebook timeline, Twitter feed and Pinterest board. According to Forrester, 192 million U.S. customers will shop online in 2016, up 15% from 2012. This means beauty brands must act fast: consumers rank packaging that
protects from breaking and spilling as two of the most important attributes in overall packaging satisfaction. In other words, what does matter is the condition in which the product arrives at a consumer’s doorstep, how easy it is to store under the sink and how it lives up to expectations during use. If shampoo spills or breaks en route from the grocery delivery service, it’s unlikely a consumer will re-purchase that product. And as grocery lists become digital, woe betide brands removed from the “My Favorites” list. Without the visual cue in the aisle, chances are that brand is off the list for good. In today’s omnichannel marketplace, packaging is still the only marketing communications vehicle that reaches 100% of shoppers. It has the power to affect purchase intent, overall product satisfaction and repeat purchase behavior.

Global fragrance leaders on scent of success at Beautyworld Middle East 2016 TWELVE OF WORLD’S TOP 18 FRAGRANCE HOUSES TO LINE-UP AT DUBAI TRADE SHOW AS MEA REGION OUTPACES GLOBAL GROWTH

acklustre growth in the West coupled with a slowdown in China and Russia means global fragrance houses are training their sights on the Middle East and Africa, with twelve of the world’s top 18 ready to lineup at Beautyworld Middle East 2016. According to analysts Euromonitor International (EMI), The Middle East and Africa (MEA) will be second only to Latin America in the global fragrance growth market, accounting for 31 per cent of the estimated US$5.8 billion value increase from 2014-2019. Led by Saudi Arabia (US$1.7 billion) and the UAE (US$423 million), the MEA’s fragrance market was worth US$5.2 billion in 2015, seven per cent up on the previous year. Absolute growth for the entire region from 20142019 will value US$1.8 billion, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 6.5 per cent, according to EMI. Compare that to the tepid prospects in North America and Western Europe – which both have anticipated annual growth rates of 1 per cent over 2014-2019 – and it’s not surprising the world’s premier fragrance-related exhibitors are eagerly awaiting the upcoming Beautyworld Middle East trade show in Dubai. Taking place from 15-17 May 2016 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the three-day event will host more than 200 companies specialising in the creation, development and production of unique compound fragrances, oils, and perfumes. That of course includes twelve of the world’s top 18 fragrance creation houses: Givaudan, Mane, Robertet, CPL Aromas, Iberchem, Eurofragance, Cosmo International Fragrances, Expressions Parfumees, Fragrance Resources, Parfex, Technico Flor, and LUZI. Many of these, including French-headquartered perfumeries such as Mane, Robertet, Expressions Parfumees, and Technico Flor, recently set up bases in the UAE to better serve the insatiable Middle East appetite for fragrances used in a variety of beauty and wellness products, from perfumes, soaps and deodorants, to cosmetics, oils, and shampoos. Others went a step further; Spanish company Eurofragance – which is exhibiting at Beautyworld Middle East for the seventh time – last year established an AED10 million 10,000sqft creative centre in Dubai to create fresh fragrances that encapsulate the essence of the Middle East. Earlier this year, the company also invested in an AED3 million automatic fragrance compounder. Sheikh Zaman, Eurofragance’s Country Manager, said the Middle East represents nearly 60 per cent of its global business volume: “We currently have two production centres and four creative centres in Barcelona, Mexico City, Dubai, and most recently, in Singapore.” “Most of our customers are based here so it’s a very important and strategic market for us. In the Middle East, male or females enjoy fragrance because here, more than anywhere else, fragrances are very much a part of our everyday lives, and essentially represent an extension of our lifestyles,” added Zaman. Swiss company LUZI fragrance compounds is exhibiting at Beautyworld Middle 2016 for the fourth time. Our fragrances reflect these trends according to the tastes of the mass, prestige and the niche markets.” Elsewhere, Robertet Group from the French town of Grasse – considered the world’s perfume capital – is returning to Beautyworld Middle East 2016 following a successful debut at the show last year. Dominique Bertolini, General Manager of
Robertet’s Dubai branch said: “Our largest markets are in the Europe and the USA, but the Middle East is also growing very fast. It represents more than 15 per cent of our global revenue and we plan to keep on growing this.” Fragrance is the largest in size of five core product groups at Beautyworld Middle East 2016, the region’s leading international trade fair for beauty products, hair, fragrances and wellbeing. With fragrances climbing a steep regional growth path, the section has grown in line with market expectations, from 111 exhibitors in 2011 to 170 in 2015, growing annually by 11 per cent. Ahmed Pauwels, CEO of Messe Frankfurt Middle East, the organiser of Beautyworld Middle East, said: “The Middle East has a long cultural connection to fragrance that goes beyond beauty. The region’s hot climate
encourages consumers to maintain high levels of personal hygiene, and fragrance enables them to support this. “Developing markets such as the Middle East will benefit from favourable macroeconomic factors, where rising disposable incomes and stronger purchasing power will in turn spur growth in discretionary purchases, including fragrances,” Pauwels added. In addition to Fragrance, Beautyworld Middle East focuses on the four other core product groups of Hair, Nails, and Salon Supplies; Cosmetics and Skincare; Machinery, Packaging and Raw Materials; and Professional Equipment and Spa. The show’s footprint covers not only the Middle East, but extends across North and East Africa, the Levant, Central Asia, South and Southeast Asia, making it a key networking and sourcing platform for the beauty and wellness industries. In 2015, Beautyworld Middle East featured 1,441 exhibitors from 60 countries, and attracted 29,670 trade visitors from 120 countries, with more than half of the visitors coming from outside of the UAE.
