Business Management About this course: The Foundation Degree in Business Management will provide you with the relevant academic knowledge, professional experience and industry relevant skills that will prepare you for employment in the world of business. The business environment is increasingly dynamic, innovative, resourceful and yet risky. To be successful in business management not only do you need to creative and entrepreneurial but you must understand the basic business principles and have excellent management and leadership skills. To accommodate the principles and defining characteristics of a Foundation Degree the programme is delivered through a modular mode of study blending traditional methods of teaching and learning with aspects of workbased learning. Equally the curriculum has been designed to ensure that individuals can draw on the work-based responsibilities.

Modes of Assessment

A combination of assignments, practical assessments, presentations and examinations.


Programme Aims Entry Requirements

The programme aims to:

GCSE level. Normally English, Maths and Science at grade C/4 or above. (Equivalent level 2 functional skills in numeracy and literacy).

Enable students to critically understand the role of the business manager in the success of business;

Provide experience and knowledge of business practice, with a focus on core business principles, to enable students to communicate with specific audiences;

Foster an enquiring and critical analysis of business by drawing on relevant theories, concepts, methods and perspectives;

Provide intellectual challenge and encourage the development of a range of key, practical and cognitive skills in preparing students for employment and further study;

Promote the study of business management to a wide range of entrants, in line with the University’s commitment to widening participation;

Develop an approach to study which empowers students to work confidently, both independently and in groups, towards specific goals;

Facilitate student competence in the process of becoming active, reflective and independent learners through providing, within a supportive learning environment, student centred learning and teaching methods;

Foster an enterprising, entrepreneurial spirit and enhance the employability prospects of each student;

Support the mission statement of Worthing College to provide opportunity, achievement, success and progression through design and delivery of the programme.

Advanced level – minimum 96 UCAS points (240 pre 2017) attained through BTEC Advanced or AS/A Level provision or Business related advanced Apprenticeship, NVQ level 3 or Access Course. Mature applicants without the threshold academic credentials will be considered on an individual basis and will be subject to an initial assessment of numeracy and literacy, extended writing and analytical and evaluative academic skills. The Sussex Vocational Progression Accord guarantees a selection interview for applicants with NVQ and professional qualifications at Level 3.

Progression/Careers: Once you have acquired the Foundation Degree in Business Management you will be entitled to progress to Level 6 of the following programme at University of Chichester. Progression to year 3: BA (Hons) Business Studies Alternatively, you may use your Foundation Degree as a means of entering a programme at another university or gain employment.

Fees and Funding

£6,195 per annum for tuition fees. Others costs, including contribution to travel, total approximately £60 in Year 1 and £60 in Year 2.
