Dates for your diary April 19th– Workshop/parents evening. 6.30pm-8pm April 16th— School place email April 21st—Queen’s Birthday April 23rd—St George’s Day

General information We have a busy month ahead with lots of Easter celebration, St George’s Day, the Queen’s birthday and our workshop evening. We will be taking part in Easter egg hunts, making British flags and singing happy birthday to the Queen. We welcome Sophie, who is our new administrator apprentice and Rhianna our new Childcare apprentice. You will see their faces around the nursery. We have been entered into the ‘nursery of the year’ competition with the Worthing Herald and would love you to vote for us. You need to purchase a Worthing Herald paper to do this. We will have some for sale in the nursery from Thursday 4th April if you would like to purchase one. Thanks in advance for your support. We are looking for some more double buggies to take our children on outings if anyone has one they no longer need. We are also looking for some good condition ‘ride on toys’ for our younger children if anyone is selling any? Could we just remind parents that if their child is unwell and needs to be collected from nursery, then it is important that you have someone that can collect quickly who is nearby. This will help eliminate the spread of infection and viruses. Please can we remind parents to respect our neighbours when using the colTraining lege carpark. Thanks in Amy and Becky—supporting boys advance.

Little Eggs This month We welcome six new little eggs. Freddie, Rocky, Charlotte, Jacob, Evie and Mia. Thank you to all the parents that completed the survey and thank you for the lovely comments about Little Eggs. We have lots of new babies starting with us over the next couple of months, we will be spending time comforting them and settling them in to nursery life. As Spring is now here we are hoping for warmer weather to explore outside and go on walks with our babies. We have just finished a communication themed week to extend our babble and speech in little eggs.

Acknowledgements Nicole is pregnant and is expecting a baby girl in August. Sophie is walking and Harley has taken his first steps!

Other bits and bobs Goodbye to Isla and Travis who move up to Caterpillars. We wish you luck in your new room. We hope to see you at the Parent Workshop on Thursday 19th April.

Ideas for home Lots of singing, reading stories and communication with the babies to develop their babble and new words and sounds.

Caterpillars This month We welcome Hugo who starts with us this month. We also welcome Travis and Isla who move up from little eggs. We will be looking at growing things to support ‘Earth Day’ on Sunday 22nd April. For this we will be doing lots of planting of fruit and vegetables which we can watch growing. We may even get a chance to eat some of our produce. We will also be making bird feeders for our Forest School area. This will give us a chance to watch some wildlife. We will enjoy some walks on the nature trail and to the park. We will be making St George’s Day Flags and doing lots of Easter based activities.

Other bits and bobs Our Children have loved large scale painting and drawing. If you have any leftover wall paper please can it be donated. Thank you in advance.

Ideas for home Take some time to visit the park or just go in your garden and talk about what you can see. Maybe you are avid gardeners and you can grow something with your child. Note the changes that you see. Maybe even take pictures.

Blossom This month We will be talking about April showers. Hopefully growing some plants and vegetables and tasting our produce. We will be supporting the children to make bonds with each other and the staff now that some have settled into the room. We will be visiting the park and surrounding areas to look at nature. We will be taking part in lots of fun Easter activities as well as St Georges Day and the Queen’s Birthday. Please take some time to look at our display board outside the room. There is some very informative information.

Other bits and bobs Please can we try and use the same behaviour management words at home as we do at nursery. We say “kind hands please” “listening ears” and “we throw balls, not toys” More information about this will be at our parents workshop on Thursday 19th April.

Ideas for home Take your child to see new life at the lambing farms. Gaston farm and Coombes farm and very popular for this.

Butterflies This month We will be saying a fond farewell to Iris who leaves at the end of April to move to Canada! We wish you and your family all the best in your exciting new adventure. This month we will be looking at ‘under the sea’ as blue planet seems to have become a popular discussion between children in the room. We will be creating our own Aquarium in our science area. Using different resources to create creatures that live under the sea. We will look at the sizes of different whales and sharks. Some maths activities will include number fishing and ocean bingo. I am sure there will be more stories told about the sea too, if the dinosaurs are anything to go by! We will focus mainly on ‘the rainbow fish’ and talk about being a good friend. We will be celebrating St Georges day by learning the story of St George.

Acknowledgements Thank you to everyone for supporting Sports Relief, bringing in bikes and scooters and all the donations to support the fundraising.

Other bits and bobs You may have noticed we have been very lucky to have a selection of new toys for the children. We have got a lot of new dolls, and some accessories. We would love some old baby clothes newborn or 3 months for the children to have a variety of changes for the dolls. Thank you.

Ideas for home Take a trip to the beach , how many shells can you find? Sort through into group looking at the shapes and sizes. Maybe take a picture.

Forest School The children have been enjoying using saws to saw wooden discs and nailing into them. They were also weaving wool onto nails and enjoying some delicious snacks that were cooked on the fire. We have managed to enjoy our time in the area even though we have had some real rain downpours! The children have loved watching the Daffodils grow and counting how many flower buds they can see.

Forest School Instagram The Forest School has an Instagram for updates and photos of the children’s activities. Follow the handle at @children.first.forest.school

Ideas for home Go on a nature walk and try and see how many daffodils you can count! Maybe take some pictures?
