Little Eggs This month We would like to welcome Isabella. P and Benoit to Little Eggs. We look forward to lots of cuddles as you settle! This month we will be creating winter pictures using cold colours and our fingers for our display board. Due to the weather turning colder, we will be planning for physical activities inside nursery and going for walks around the college too! We will be planning for messy activities such as water play, flour play and painting!

Acknowledgements Our new babies have settled into nursery really well. We are receiving lots of smiles from the babies and less tears! Well done Little Eggs!

Other bits and bobs Please remember to bring nursery bags and to check that they are fully stocked with spare clothes etc.

Ideas for home Singing lots of songs to encourage the babies to repeat words and sounds!

Caterpillars This month We would like to welcome Darcie and Amelia to the Caterpillar room! This month we will be looking at all the different festivals that are happening around us. To do this, we will be taking trips to the local areas to observe remembrance day activities in the community. We will be going into the garden in the late winter afternoons with our glow sticks all in preparation for firework night. This will also be supported through creative and imaginative play as well as arts and crafts and stories.

Acknowledgements Thank you for all your kind toiletry donations for Community Matters.

Other bits and bobs A gentle reminder– please can we name clothes, coats and shoes to ensure that they are returned to the right child! Please can you keep any tuna tins and give them to us for a Christmas craft!

Ideas for home Don’t forget firework night on 5th November. Why not take a walk and talk about the different colours and sounds!

Blossom This month We welcome Elsie who will be joining the Blossom room this month. This month we will be raising money for Children in Need for the Big Spotacular on Friday 17 November. Blossom Children are welcome to dress up in spotty clothes and we would really appreciate it if you could bring in cakes for the children to sell to the College staff, nursery staff and our families. Also if you have any old £1 coins we will be happy to pass them on to this very worthy cause. Forest School was a brilliant success before half term last month, with the children loving the hot chocolate, cooked on a kelly kettle and hot buttered toast cooked on an open fire, not to mention the stories and acting that went on. We loved looking for leaves and watching the squirrels gather acorns. This month we will be taking another group of children out and we will be reading some other lovely nature stories, like Guess how much I love you. We will continue our Autumn theme and our display is looking very colourful with squirrels, hedgehogs, pumpkins and spiders, not to mention sparkly pine cones. Our Diwali week was a huge hit with the children loving the musical instruments. This month we will be creating some firework pictures and remembering that it is Remembrance Sunday.

Acknowledgements Thank you to those parents who have named their children’s clothes and brought in spare clothes, it helps a lot!

Ideas for home Get those wellies on and go for a splash in the puddles and enjoy a hot chocolate watching your breath and the steam. Use maths everywhere by counting, asking your child questions … like “How many?”, “What size/colour/shape is that?”

Thank you to everyone for supporting your child in their learning and we look forward to seeing you all on Parents Evening.

Butterflies This month This month we will be having taking some children to the Food Bank to deliver our donated toiletries! A big thank you if you contributed kindly. We will be celebrating firework night by doing a variety of creative activities from firework dancing, using paints to splash onto large paper to create a firework display. We will be remembering the soldiers who died or were injured in the wars– talking to the children about Remembrance Day. Our new topic will be transport. We will be looking at the different types and how they have changed over the years. We are hoping to have some different vehicles coming to the nursery for us to look at. We will be counting the different coloured cars in the car park and making our own vehicles using junk modelling resources. We will be exploring how some of the different TV programme characters use transport, including thunderbirds. We will be starting to practice for our Christmas nativity, with lots of singing and dancing! The children will be having an amazing Thanksgiving meal cooked by the lovely Denise. We will be thinking about how lucky we are compared to many others around the world. We will be fundraising for Children in Need on 17th November. Children can dress up and we will be selling cakes to people around the college. Any cake donations would be gratefully received. We would now like to discourage children bringing toys into Butterflies, as we are having some children upset at others playing with them. We understand that some children do need a comforter, which is fine and we do have our special box for them to be kept in for times when they aren't needed.

Acknowledgements Congratulations to Lottie on becoming a big sister to Oliver! Well done to Rhia on raising ÂŁ126.50 after having 56cms cut off her hair for Princess Trust!

Other bits and bobs We would be grateful if you could save circular lids of any size for our model transport building.

Ideas for home Please help get your child to become more confident putting their coats and shoes/boots on and off. Also talk to your children about the different cars/bikes you may have at home.

Forest School For the last half term, Butterflies have focused lots on bugs. We have been o bug hunts and restored our mini beast hotel. We have also practiced peeling skills on carrots and wood. We have loved playing in the den we built. We are finishing off our sessions with a fire and have chosen crumpets, fruit bread and hot cross buns to toast on it! Blossom have loved going out to forest school to have story time linked to the outdoor environment.

Other bits and bobs We will be planning new sessions for the next half term and will email the parents of the children taking part. Please remember gloves, hats, scarves etc. as it is getting colder!

Ideas for home Autumn is a great time of year for outdoor activities. Get out and about and see what children can find. Chestnut casings, leaves and pine cones are all great for making hedgehogs!
