Newsletter May 2016

General information Farewell This month brings a fond farewell to Cara, who will be leaving us at the end of May to go off on her exciting adventures abroad! We know you will have a fabulous time and I speak for all the staff and children when I say how much we will miss you. Cara will be replaced by Donna who will be joining our team as the new pre-school room leader. Donna is a higher level teaching assistant, currently based in a reception class within a school and is looking forward to starting with us in June. She will be coming in to visit the children and staff throughout the next month. Reminder As it is getting warmer and warmer, please can we remind those of you who haven’t yet paid their sun cream money to pay and sign the permission notice in the rooms. Thank you. Also we would like to remind parents to refrain from using mobile phones whilst in the nursery. This is for Child Protection and Safeguarding reasons. Workshop Thank you to all who attended the parent work shop, we had a great turn out and hope that you found the various information beneficial. If you were unable to make it and you would like to arrange another time to meet with your child’s key person then please talk to your child’s room leader about booking in Website of the month Our website of the month this month is www.crec.co.uk You will find some interesting documents under the research tab including studies into early education. School leavers if your child is leaving for school this year, we will require a 2 month notice period with your leaving dates. Jana will be providing you all with leaving date slips soon. There is also a list on pre-school’s door for you to write down what school your child will be attending so that we can contact them. Security If you have lost your entry card/key fob then please do let us know. Also please remember to bring them with you when collecting/dropping off children to avoid having to wait at the door. Dietary requirements If your child has a dietary requirement and is not coming in for lunch then please could you let us know in the morning so that we do not prepare an unnecessary alternative. Thank you. Garden planting area Our planting area is now ready in the garden. Rea and Kirsty will be spending time with children planting flowers and vegetables. If anyone has any flowers or seeds they would like to donate, this would be fantastic as well as 2 litre clear plastic bottles which we will be up-cycling into planters.

Forest School This month Sarah is going to be doing her forest school training in the coming months to join our forest school team as a leader! This month we will be enjoying our new den that the older children built in the holiday club. We are also going to be making pencils and castles and snacks on the fire.

Ideas for home Now that the weather is nicer, get den building in the garden! Use material pegs, string and incorporate the natural features of your garden.

Baby One This month We welcome Luna, Sienna, Arlo, Lottie and Max who have all started with us recently. This month we will be doing assessments on all the babies. We will be exploring lots of activities linked to their physical development, their communication development and their personal, social and emotional development! We will hopefully continue to enjoy lots of fun in the sun and be practising using our single words.

Acknowledgements Well done to all our clever babies who are doing really well with action songs and sign language!

Other bits and bobs Please remember to pay for sun cream or bring your own in. Please let us know in the mornings if your child has any specific requirements for the day e.g. milk, sleeps, teething, routine etc.to help us make sure we are continuing your home routine as much as we can at nursery.

Ideas for home Help to support your baby’s communication development by giving a running commentary to your day, emphasising key words. This will offer your baby lots of opportunities to gain a wider vocabulary and hear clear speech sounds.

Baby Two This month This month we will continue to play outside and soak in the warm weather. Let’s hope it stays! We have loved going for walks so to continue this we are going to make bird feeders which we will take out to Forest School and hopefully see some birds and squirrels to feed. We have also really enjoyed water play on sunny days so expect wet clothes as we will be doing lots of pouring and splashing!

Acknowledgements Happy birthday to Emily and Nala who are turning 2 this month!

Other bits and bobs Please remember labelled sun hats, sun cream money, or to bring your own sun cream. Please also be remembering to check drawers. If anybody has got any spare clean top soil for our digging area that they would like to donate this would be much appreciated.

Ideas for home Go out and about/in the garden and investigate any changes in plants growing or changes in leaf colour. Also you can try and spot any butterflies or bumblebees!

Toddlers This month This month we will be talking about healthy food and making some healthy juice for the children to try. We will also be planting some seeds and encouraging the children to look after them and watch them grow.

Other bits and bobs Please could you put your child’s name on clothing to prevent them getting lost.

Ideas for home Planting seeds at home with your child and talking about what the seeds need in order to grow.

Science week has turned into science month! We hope to do a lot more experiments, visiting the science classrooms in the college and creating a new display board! Summer is nearing so lots of time will be spent going for walks and getting muddy!

Acknowledgements Well done to Oscar and James who are settling in really nicely.

Other bits and bobs Please remember to label all clothing and check your child’s drawer for letters and art work. Also a reminder to bring in money for nursery sun cream, or your own from home.

Ideas for home Celebrate May day by attaching coloured ribbon to a washing line and practise the traditional maypole dancing!

A personal message from Cara before she leaves to travel the world! Pre-school has been the most rewarding place I have ever worked in. Each and every one of you are simply amazing! I will miss you all dearly. You have taught me so much. Have fun and enjoy your childhood!
