Introduction The purpose of this guide is to provide students with information about travel costs to and from the new Worthing College at The Warren. This guide should be read in conjunction with the ‘Getting to the new Worthing College’ leaflet. Whilst every effort has been made to ensure that the information supplied within the guide is correct at the time of print, students and their parent/carers should check with service providers to ensure that published costs and timetables are current and correct. Walking or cycling to Worthing College There are pedestrian and bicycle access to the college site at Hill Barn Lane, Warren Road and at the Grove Lodge Roundabout. The Grove Lodge Roundabout entrance leads to a well-lit pedestrian/bicycle path to the main building. There are enhanced pedestrian and bicycle routes in the local area together with safe crossing points on Warren Road, the Upper Brighton Road and at the Grove Lodge Roundabout. Worthing College will offer “Bikeability” training to students and staff to help improve cycle safety and there are 250 bicycle spaces on site close to the main entrance with some also on the western side of the campus. Please avoid walking or cycling along Hillbard Lane and use the pedestrian/ cyclepath inside the college ground instead.
Getting to Worthing College by Rail The following local authorities have arranged for full time Further Education students in their areas to receive 34% discounts on the price of rail season tickets: • • •

Tickets must be purchased a minimum of seven days in advance, and 14 days in advance over Christmas/Easter periods. Tickets must have a minimum validity of one month. Any period above one month is possible up to a year. However if you require a season ticket for longer than 10 months and 13 days then you will be sold an annual ticket. To qualify for a discounted season ticket you must live in one of the areas highlighted above, and have a valid Sussex Student Card. 3
Sussex Student Card The Sussex Student Card must be carried when using a rail season ticket purchased under the discount scheme. Download the application form from the local authority website and ask your tutor or a member of Student Services to counter-sign the form to confirm that you are registered on a course. 2388 Sussex Student Card (1975):FORM2
You will also need to include a recent passportstyle photograph with the application, together with a self-addressed envelope to ensure that the card is returned to you as quickly as possible.

On the http://www.southernrailwaytickets.com site most tickets are sold at one third below their normal price. However a minimum fare applies based on the equivalent of £30.80 per month. In some case it may be cheaper to buy a full price ticket from your local station and in this situation you will be informed on screen. You should have your student photocard (issued by the above Local Educational Authorities) ready, as you will be asked for the number. Please note: You must be a registered Southern user to order tickets from the Southern Railway site. If you are registered, please ensure that you are logged in before you continue.

To qualify for a Unizone ticket you must be a member of the National Union of Students (NUS). When you enrol at Worthing College you can apply for an NUS Extra card. A 12 month NUS Extra card costs £12 and provides students with numerous discounts. Full details can be found on the NUS website: https://cards. nusextra.co.uk You will need to present your valid NUS identity card and a valid 16 - 24 Railcard at one of the staffed stations within the Unizone area to purchase a Unizone ticket. Please note that you are not able to purchase Unizone tickets at Ticket Vending Machines or on the train. You will need to present your NUS identity card during all ticket inspections. 16-25 Railcard A 16-25 Railcard currently costs £30 and will save you 1/3 on rail fares throughout Great Britain. If you’re aged between 16 and 25, or are older and in fulltime education, you can apply for a 16-25 Railcard now. Alternatively, a 3-year 16-25 Railcard costs £70, saving you money on the cost of renewing a 1-year Railcard for three consecutive years. The 3-year Railcard can only by bought online and you can apply for it up until the day before your 24th birthday. You can use your Railcard to make savings on both long and short journeys throughout the week. The only restriction is that if you travel between 4.30am and 10am Monday to Friday (except during July and August) a minimum fare of £12 will apply. There is no minimum fare on weekends and public holidays, or any time during July and August. Your 16-25 Railcard will save you 1/3 on a wide range of tickets - including all Standard and First Class Advance fares. Choice iD Card (East Sussex) If you are under 19, you can now get cheaper bus travel with a Choice iD card and a Freedom bus ticket. The free Choice iD card allows young people to buy an East Sussex Freedom bus ticket for £14 from the bus driver. The Freedom ticket gives you unlimited travel on almost any bus in East Sussex for seven days in a row, including weekends. You can download and complete the Choice iD application form and then take it with a passort photo and proof of age to any East Sussex library. Getting to Worthing College by car or motorcycle The Warren campus is easily accessible from the A27 with one main vehicle entrance in Hill Barn Lane. There will be 227 car parking spaces, including 10 spaces for disabled drivers situated close to the main entrance and a number of spaces allocated to students. A further 28 spaces have been allocated for motorcycles near to the entrance. Students wishing to use the college car park will need to apply for a free parking permit on an annual basis.

There will be a designated drop-off area for students and staff and a separate drop off area for parents with children attending the college Nursery.

Worthing College Bursary Scheme and Discretionary Fund Some students may be entitled to financial assistance through the college Discretionary Fund or Bursary Scheme. Eligible students can use the funding for specific needs such as travel, books, course materials, curriculum trips and equipment. It cannot be used for living expenses.
