TRUE COLORS
ometimes I honestly feel like colors have the ability to capture sentiments and convey emotions better than any of the words that I automatically grasp for when crafting a statement. I am not sure if it is my spring fever speaking or if it is an absolute truth, but it is something that I have been experiencing for quite some time. I notice it immediately when I think I am going to have a good day, I reach for bright colors. When I enter a bright-colored room, I wake up a little more. If the decor speaks to my whimsy side, I even crack a smile.
T
his issue is all about celebrating vibrant colors. The ones we wear and the ones that we exude. This issue is filled with friends to the magazine who have helped us grow. When I think of them, I think of the vibrant color yellow. In this issue, we got our featured interviews to open up about their personality and show us their true colors, and I am happy to report that they are bright, warm and inspiring. We were super honored to be able to interview the gorgeous Edy Ganem. We are also super psyched to introduce you to a few of our favorite designers. Once again, each interview and article is designed to inspire and motivate you. Hopefully you will be inspired to boldly pursue your dreams and accept your true colors. You are worthy,

Dear Dreamer,
I
know the dreams in your heart grow bigger and bigger every day. But, they can’t anymore. Here is why. To dream about dreams and to live them out has two different meanings. To live out your dreams means that you will go against the norm. It means you will be stepping out on a limb and securing your own destiny. There are so many meanings, but these dreams in our hearts have to live. Don’t get caught in your fears and doubts. Don’t get caught up with being a perfectionist. Don’t get caught up with making things so perfect that they never get made. The best way to know how to drive a car is to do what? Drive one! Exactly! If you keep reading books and watching videos on driving a car, things will compute differently. Starting your dreams and pushing for what you love will not be easy. It will not GET easier either. But, you will be able to secure your financial stability. You will be able to get to the life you want to live. You will be able to leave your job in your early 40s and 50s and never have to worry about working a day again in your life. ACT NOW! The famous words you hear in every infomercial. Why? Because they know that if they say that, they will hit some trigger that will make people wake up and get the message. Keep yourself around strong-minded individuals and those who will push you to live out the true passions of your heart. No more thinking about blogging, just blog. No more wanting to go back to school, just enroll. Oh, classes are booked? You don’t have the money? You are not smart enough? Don’t get lost in the sauce. That blurred part of your situation is where success lies. So if you can bare with the fog until it truly clears then you will see the fruits of your labor come back to you on so many levels. LIVE! Stop dreaming, start living! There is a young boy and girl looking for people like you to make a difference. Don’t lose the hope. Starting will be tough, but you will thank me later.

PURPOSE AWAKENING He speaks with a calming conviction that conveys unquestionably that you are speaking to man who is fueled by faith. Being that I was raised as a Pentecostal Christian, I half expected to hear the standard pastoral drawl that I have heard most pastors employ. However, it never arrived. Touré Roberts is among the ranks of leaders who are classified as next generational leaders, preachers of the present. Those new leaders don’t have a uniformed look or sound. Some may opt for a traditional aesthetic (suits and robes) while others may wear a simple button-down shirt and slacks. This transition is natural, according to Roberts. “Religion has to evolve to keep up with culture. Our message has to be authentic and relevant to the culture. I really feel like that is what this generation is thirsty for, authenticity.” Roberts is rapidly joining the ranks with pastors like Joel Olsteen and Joyce Meyer with his authorial debut titled “Purpose Awakening: Discover the Epic Idea that Motivated Your Birth.” The pastor makes bold assertions in his book that meld culture, faith and psychology together in a manner that has garnered a great amount of success for him. “I am very pleased and very grateful about the response to the book so far,” Roberts said. In Purpose Awakening, according to the book’s description, he speaks of, “the transformational moment when you are awakened to the purpose of your life,” coming from his own experience and encouraging those seemingly lost on their own path offering a core message of purpose, identity, faith, and destiny. He uses personal stories, humor, and eye-opening analogies to take the reader on a transformational journey. “I think it is important for you to know that you have a unique place in the universe that no one else can fill,” Roberts said. “You’re existence is not an accident one of my favorite verses to refer to reaffirm that statement is Jeremiah 1:5.” “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” -Jeremiah 1:5

Meital Dohan is a heavyweight talent. The star is known for her roles on Showtime’s comedy-drama Weeds and the horror/comedy series Woke Up Dead. She also holds the title of published author and playwright. If her literary feats and acting achievements are not enough to validate our assertion, Meital’s explosive musical debut should seal the deal for any non-believers. The sultry and soulful multi-talented songstress has already worked with Sean Kingston, R3hab, Reflex and Che Pope. Needless to say, Meital is taking the international electronic music genre by storm.
ON GETTING STARTED
Meital was born in Tel Aviv. She described herself as being shy when she was younger. Nevertheless, Meital’s choice to express herself creatively came at a fairly young age, 13. It started with a theatrical debut at her school and she hasn’t looked back since.
PHOTOGRAPHER GUY AROCH
We had the opportunity to discuss how she successfully navigated the music industry as an independent artist and landed in the Billboard Top 10 Music Dance Charts. Meital continues to climb the charts with her new hit single “Give Us Back Love.”
“IT’S ALL ABOUT MAKING MUSIC THAT SAYS SOMETHING AND MAKES PEOPLE WANT TO MOVE,” MEITAL SAID. We have to admit that we agree. We love the light and energetic sound of Meital’s music and the soul-searching content. Meital describes her music as directly reflecting her attitude on the world by celebrating the return of fun, love, and truth. Her music is heartfelt and pokes fun at the packaged pretenses and Barbiedoll stereotypes. Meital’s single “On Ya,” featuring Sean Kingston has received a remarkable amount of attention garnering the multi-dimensional talent a solid fan following. We are not the only publication who has taken an immediate interest in the singer. The New York Times has described the singer as “Extremely Gorgeous.” And the Variety Magazine has referred to Meital as “Breathtaking.” by Ju’lia Samuels Be sure to listen to more on Meital Dohan’s web site.

RITZ CARLTON The Ritz-Carlton on South Beach has us seeing red at the beginning of spring with their new red currant facial.

Typically when I walk into the Ritz Carlton or any South Beach building, it is for journalistic purposes only. In other words, I am there strictly to report on events and interview incredible people whom I admire--which is amazing. However, at the beginning of spring, I find myself in the heart of luxury for the purposes of relaxing, experiencing the hotel’s new red currant facial and of course writing about the new facial once I get home.
Walking through the glass doors of the Ritz Carlton Resort and Spa located on the third floor of the hotel, I am instantly greeted by a medley of luxurious fragrances and a warm and inviting atmosphere immersed in the finest facial scrubs, candles and all things one finds in the realm of relaxation.
I was ushered to my locker, handed a pair of comfy sandals and a plush robe. Once I met my esthetician for the day, Rosemary, it became more difficult to hide my excitement. As I got settled in, she rapidly and gracefully began the pampering process. The first step was a hydrating exfoliant followed by a pineapple mask. Then came the vapor machine to help with my pores and finally fresh red currants that were washed away with a soothing cleanser. While I loved every minute of my special treatment, I have to admit that what I enjoyed the most is what made the facial so Ritz Carlton. The use of the fresh red currants really sealed the deal for me. At the conclusion of my facial, which honestly could’ve never ended for me, I felt like a new womanrefreshed and vibrant just in time for spring.
Soothing signature facials such as the Red Currant are the ideal spring time treat
The red currant is a 50-minute crimson facial designed to take preventative action against the early signs of aging. This treatment contains a powerful, natural antioxidant complex, derived from the red currant berry, which is rich in Vitamins B and C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that fights and even reverses free radical damage in skin cells. These essential vitamins also aid in skin cell regeneration and promote healing from harmful UV-ray damage. In other words, it is the perfect remedy against the harmful effects of springtime fun in the sun.
About the Ritz Carlton

HOW TO EXPERTLY COVER DARK UNDER EYE CIRCLES Those of us who have them understand that even the best night’s sleep won’t make them disappear. Although lack of sleep can cause under-eye circles, so can genetics and allergies. The struggle lies in trying to conceal them with makeup the next day. We recommend using these simple steps to say goodbye to even the most stubborn bags and under-eye circles. - Charleen Gonzalez
STEP 1
Hydrate those peepers! Use an eye cream that is light and will absorb quickly into the skin. I love Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream. Using an eye cream as a base will prevent your concealer from settling into fine lines and drying out your eyes. Be sure to pat on the cream, or any product on your eyes, with your ring finger. This prevents premature aging of the delicate skin around your eyes.
STEP 2
Use an orange- or salmon-colored concealer. Understanding basic color theory, orange counteracts purple and blue on the color wheel, so we will do this to cancel out dark under-eye bags. My holy grail product is Eve Pearl’s Dual Salmon Concealer. Gently dab this product under the eye area. (If you can’t get your hands on the Eve Pearl concealer, try Bobbi Brown’s Corrector in Peach for light skin tones and Dark Peach for warmer skin tones).
STEP 3
Use a lighter concealer, at least a shade lighter than your skin tone, on top of the orange color corrector shade. You’ll want to apply this in a V shape under the eye, starting right under the inner corners of the eyes and going across towards the temples. Be sure to blend. For a heavy duty creaseless concealer try, Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(Marc) able Full Cover Concealer. For something lighter, try my drugstore favorite Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer.
STEP 4
This step is optional, but for those whose concealer never seems to stay put and creases, try setting with a transparent setting powder like Laura Mercier’s Secret Brightening Powder.

JAY ELLIS DISCUSSES HIS BREAKOUT ROLE ON BET’S THE GAME AND SHARES A FEW THINGS THAT YOU MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN ABOUT HIM.
was greeted by a surprisingly energetic and welcoming voice on the other end of my cell phone. “Hi, I am sorry about any of the noise that you might hear. I am at the gym but I am taking a break. I have only been here for about an hour.” Jay Ellis has been receiving a lot of press lately for his breakout role on BET’s hit series The Game. Needless to say, I have read quite a few articles that highlight his enthusiasm about health and fitness. “I usually work out for about an hour and 45 minutes,” he answered when I inquired about his workout regimen. “I try to cover the basics: lifting, stretching, cardio and core.” The 3.4 million viewers that The Game’s season seven premiere garnered can attest to the effectiveness of Ellis’ work ethic. Mirrored effect Ellis appears to have a lot in common with his small-screen persona and quite a few differences, if you ask him. “I have all the good qualities,” he laughed. “However, I am a Capri-
corn, so I have my stubborn moments. Bryce doesn’t like to be vulnerable but no one likes to be vulnerable.” Never the less, the former student-athlete and class president turned model-actor doesn’t seem to be as overwhelmed with his overnight success the way some might think his rookie character is. Ellis appears to be grounded by his family values and commitment to service. “I don’t know if I would be here without philanthropy. I didn’t have a lot growing up but something that my family always told me was even if you didn’t have anything to give, you can always give your time.” Despite his rapid rise to fame, Ellis is involved with Miracles for Kids, an organization that grants the wishes of terminally ill children and Minds Matter, an educational program for inner-city high school freshmen. No stranger to taking a few risks, Ellis offered this advice to those pursuing their dreams or considering pursuing their dreams. “Believe in yourself. Work diligently on your craft and always

deliciously dark series Devious Maids has captured America’s heart and curiosity. The show, which is returning for a second season, features a group of dynamic leading ladies; Ana Ortiz as the lead character, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sánchez, Judy Reyes and one fresh-faced newcomer to the small screen, Edy Ganem. With the all-star cast working as maids for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills, the secrets that they unveil are only rivaled by their own secrets. The three million viewers the season finale garnered is all the evidence that we need to know fans are just counting the days until the show returns. Sultry, independent and driven are just a few of the words we would use to describe Ganem’s character on Devious Maids. On the show Ganem’s character, Valentina, is easy to love and equally easy on the eyes. We had the opportunity to sit down and have a chat with the talented actress about the upcoming season of Devious Maids. We are happy to report that the starlet opened up about everything from her culture to her thoughts on love and the greatest obstacle that she has had to overcome so far. We also tried to find out a few secrets about the second season.

H What
ow would you describe your character? do you have in common with her?
Valentina is a determined girl. She is a dreamer, a romantic and stubborn, which I can relate to. What would you say you don’t have in common with her? She is a true romantic. She takes love very seriously at a young age. I was definitely a little slower on that end. But I applaud her fearlessness. What do you think makes the show such a hit? I think there are several reasons as to why the show has been so successful. The show has amazing backing especially with Eva Longoria as one of the producers. Second, we have five leading women who are Latinas. We have ridiculous one-liners, great writing. It is all a great formula for success that allows us to appeal to all ages and genders. Our audience is so diverse.

How do you feel about how the first season ended? Do you have any predictions or hints that you can share? I feel it ended with cliffhangers for everyone, which was great. We recently began filming again so everyone is pretty much just picking up where the cliffhangers left off and we are finding out as we go. So I hate to say it, but I don’t know that much at the moment. But what I do love is that the scripts just seem to keep getting better and better.
“SHE IS A DREAMER, ROMANTIC AND STUBBORN, WHICH I CAN RELATE TO.”
How is it working with such dynamic women? Were you surprised by anyone’s personality? It’s really inspiring. They have been working consistently for many years. I knew their names and it is almost unbelievable and beyond amazing to be able to work with them. I feel really blessed because it really feels like a family atmosphere. We all manage to get along. I started hanging out with Ana and Judy through the show. Greatest obstacle have overcome so
you far?
My greatest obstacle so far has been more personal. It has more to do with growing up. I am learning how to be responsible and becoming the person who takes care of my family. Finish worthy
this
sentence, because
“I am _______.”
I am worthy because I work hard. What advice or call to action would you give to someone pursuing his or her dreams? Don’t give up. There isn’t a quota on how much good can come out of the universe.
DON’T GIVE UP. THERE ISN’T A QUOTA ON HOW MUCH GOOD CAN COME OUT OF THE UNIVERSE.

SPRING
STYLE WITH DAVID MICHAEL
Spring is finally upon us. It’s time to let go of the multi-layered ensembles and embrace the vibrant beauty of spring.
“The Long and Short We saw a plethora of skirts and dresses with varying hemlines grace the runway this season. Erdem and Burberry gave us a tantalizing silhouette with kneelength pencil skirts while Christopher Kane gave us short shorts and mid-thigh skirts. Ann-Sofie Back took us to the floor with skirts that would make Esmeralda of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” proud. Here’s a tip:
take on the longer shapes during the day to add some drama to your ensemble. At night, throw the world a curveball and opt for a short set in feminine hues and accessorize with silky-smooth legs. This reversal of looks adds a more unexpected approach to the rules of the season.
“More Lace? Sheer!” I have always been a fan of lace (Chantilly lace specifically). So seeing it come down the catwalk of designers like Giles Deacon and Temperley, I admittedly turned into a little kid in a candy store! But not only was it lace, it was paired with all kinds of sheer goodness. Not most of us will want to walk around being gawked at à la Beyoncé at this year’s Grammy Awards, so make sure to layer in a nice blazer or cover up! The BEAUTIFUL thing about lace is you can wear it in the day and all of the night. At night, no cover up required!
Print-ing Press If you know me personally, you know I like--LOVE prints. They are such a cool way to look hot! Peter Pilotto (did you catch him at Target? Divine) and Mary Katranzou are the print masters and for very good reason. With their mix of luxe textiles and mind boggling patterns, they are the faces of Spring fashion! I advise NOT to play it safe this Spring; add some textures and mix some of those prints together! The trick to doing that is making sure that the colors match up well and that the busier pattern is on the bottom. This ensures that they eye isn’t too confused. These four trends are so easy to try out. If you’re not feeling up to being experimental, take it slow and mix in these trends with Spring staples that you know of. Classics like espadrilles, and wedges are always the move! However you decide to play it, make sure you keep it Spring and fashion forward

WE ARE VERY HONORED TO HAVE HAD ZAC POSEN JOIN US THIS YEAR. OUR AMAZING COMMITTEE, AGAIN , ARE THE ONES THAT BROUGHT ZAC IN TO HEADLINE THE SHOW. AS FAR AS THE SELECTION, WE CHOOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE FABULOUS. SO NATURALLY WE WERE THRILLED TO HAVE ZAC POSEN.
What is the process like when you are providing shoes to children? The process is different depending on where the shoe distribution is. My factors are involved country to country and here domestically. Many organizations reach out to us requesting shoes and we approve half of them based on needs and logistics. How do you select the next place that you are going to? A few key factors determine where we do relief trips: logistics, resources (mainly availability of volunteers) and the need from children in a specific region/community. How are the shoes distributed? Shoes are delivered to the communities we support by an official Shuzz volunteer team. We are a hands-on organization, it is our mission to provide shoes but also the experience to inspire others to get involved and give back. We call our trips “Voluntourism” which is when folks get to volunteer for a few days while delivering shoes to the children that need them the most in this world, and then they get to go on to do a few tourist activities. What do you think has contributed to the success of the non-profit? Passion, dedication, volunteer experience and the 100% model.

HAYDEN
EMILY STROUD FOUNDER OF HAYDEN REIS
REIS
Hayden Reis is a colorful collection of chic, functional and playful sailcloth totes and accessories that are proudly made in the USA. The line, created by fashion-forward Florida native Emily Stroud, was designed to solve a familiar fashion dilemma. You are a lover of designer handbags, but occasionally you need a tote bag that is big enough to carry the kitchen sink that is stylish at the same time. After all, no well-dressed gal wants to damage a Louis or get grime on a Gucci. -Haydenreis.com
What was the greatest obstacle that you had to overcome so far with starting Hayden Reis? The greatest obstacle I have had to overcome, that is an ongoing challenge, is striking a balance between being a mother, wife and business owner. Finding enough time in the day to get it all done is hard. My kids are only young once so I am constantly reminding myself that I can’t compare my success to the success of others. After all,
the success of a palace takes more time than an ordinary building. How did you choose the name Hayden Reis?
I was born and raised in Florida and now my husband and I are raising our two children here. As you can imagine, we spend a Those are the names of lot of time by the beach, my children. pool, on a boat or just running from activity to activity. I started Hayden Reis because I was always on the hunt for the perfect carryall tote that I could take everywhere. It had to be functional, but fashionable at the same time. When EMILY STROUD I couldn’t find it, I set out to design one myself. Could you tell me what inspired you to start Hayden Reis?
