We’re Getting Started

Two Trees By Aiyana P., age 7 Once there were two trees. One was nice and the other was mean. I loved the tree that was nice. I loved the birds when they sang sweet words. One day, some lumberjacks came. They wanted to have that fat branch. The trees said no, they said, “Stop, stop, stop.” But the lumberjacks did not listen. So another tree said, “Help the tree.” It said to a bee, “Go, he needs help.” The bee queen said, “But he is mean to us.” But they liked nature, so they went. They stung people. They said run. And they lived happy, happy after ever.

The Frog By Emerito, age 7 There was a frog that was cute and that was nice. He didn’t have a school or a home. He had a mom and dad but they had nothing. He did have friends, but his friends didn’t have a home either. The best friend’s name was Frogler. But Frogler’s best friend’s name was Froggy. Frogler was sad because he couldn’t see his best friend. That’s because Frogler went to bed early and Froggy went to bed late. But Frogler snuck into Froggy’s house and they played video games with headphones. And they were happy again.

Advice with Danielle 2.0 By Danielle, age 12 This is “very good” advice. Please don’t take this seriously. I always get wet when it rains. I feel like if I wear a jacket, my shoes will get all wet and that’s just ew. I mean, I could use an umbrella but it’s too small. Same. But just get a bigger umbrella or get umbrellas for your shoes. Maybe it will be the new trend. How do you stay motivated to do chores? I hate chores too. Just always remember that you’re getting paid, and if you’re not, then quit. My emo boyfriend doesn’t love me. What do I do? First of all, dump him. Second of all, celebrate, because he didn’t love you anyway. Maybe you didn’t like him. Help, how do I choose classes in high school? Why would you go to high school?! Elementary is hard enough. But if you’re forced, then do the fun stuff, I guess.

Tips on Becoming a Drag Queen By Sam, age 12 Here’s a tip from a 12-year-old on becoming a drag queen. If you’re going on Drag Race, try to learn how to sew because there will be a sewing challenge. If you’re gonna take off your wig in a lip sync, better have a wig under that wig, honey. Learn the words before a lip sync! Try to win Snatch Game and lot of main challenges. Try to be funny. 2

The Stinky Potato By Wren, age 7

Once there was a potato named Rot. He smelled very bad. He smelled so bad that he had no friends. Rot did get one friend, he was very tough and his name was Binky. Rot had a great idea—he tried lots of things to get him to be his friend. And it worked.

Nintendo’s History By David, age 9 Disclaimer: I won’t tell you about add ons, because they take too long. I will also skip colour TV and games from 1980-1990. Nintendo’s first success was the NES. Consoles would not exist without it. Handheld started with GB, which was green and black, but Pokémon made it to the top from 1991 to 2010, right before the SNES came. But they needed 3D, so the N64 came right before the GBA, the same time as GC. From 2011 to 2017 the Wii made people work out. The Wii was almost the same... Oops, I forgot the DS in 2004, the 3DS, and then the Switch, and Nintendo came back to their roots with the NESC and SNESC. Glossary GB = Game Boy NES = Nintendo Entertainment System SNES = Super Nintendo Entertainment System N64 = Nintendo 64 GBA = Game Boy Advance (note: I have a GBA) GC = Game Cube NESC = Nintendo Entertainment System Classic SNESC = Super Nintendo Entertainment System Classic

The Little Lost Fox By Katelee, age 7 One day there was a little fox named Evie. She lived in the forest. She loved picking berries. She had a little house, and she loved her house. One day, Evie was walking outside and she got lost in the forest. She said, “Oh no, I’m lost in the forest.” She kept walking and walking and walking till she saw some berries, then she ate the berries. She kept on walking, then she saw a cave and a bear and said, “Oooo, a cave.” It was getting darker, so she went into the cave. “Hello,” said the bear. “Hello,” said Evie, “can I live in your cave?” “Sure, it’s kind of lonely in my cave,” said the bear. “My name is Nova.” “Yay,” said Evie. One day it was raining. “Good morning,” said Nova. “Look, it’s raining outside,” said Evie. “Aww, I wanted to play outside,” said Nova. “But we can do crafts,” said Evie. “Oh yeah. I’ll go get some paper and scissors and crayons,” said Nova. “OK,” said Evie. Then Evie and Nova started doing crafts. “I love doing crafts,” said Evie. “Me too,” said Nova. The sun was rising. “Look, the sun is out,” said Nova. “Yay,” said Evie. Then Nova and Evie became best friends.

All the superheroes were hungry, so they went home. Captain America made lasagna, fries and spaghetti. When Captain America was bringing in the drinks, the food was all gone because Garfield ate it all! What would you expect? It is Garfield.

Captain America kept Garfield outside, and Thor made more food. Robin kicked everyone out so nobody else could eat the food. Then all the heroes came over for Thanksgiving. They all had a good meal except for Garfield. Garfield stood outside and smelled the food. He got chills because he was jealous.

Walking Home Alone from Writers’ Room By Daniella, age 12 In my seven years of Writers’ Room, I have walked home alone for two years. And walking home alone (especially during the winter) is terrifying. When you leave the school, at first you’re okay. Then your mind tricks you into thinking that someone’s looking at you, and if you hear a scary sound you start walking faster. The dark, eerie sky doesn’t help at all. If you think that was scary, wait until you reach the deserted neighbourhood. From there, it goes downhill. The silence starts scaring you more than any sound, and you just give up and run home. Once you get home, you have to prepare your brain for next week’s walk. One week later… You’ve had a good day at Writers’ Room, but now it’s time for the dreadful walk home. It is even darker than last week and none of your friends could walk you home. But as you keep walking, nothing really happens. This is when you realize the calm before the storm is a serious phrase. Because when you are just a few blocks away from your house, you hear a loud set of footsteps… To be continued...
