Creatures The Chicken vs. Zombie War By Dragon, age 10
Chapter I
H
This is a story about a boy. He went to an extra-scary fright night. It was extra scary because the zombies were real. They walked from one side to the other. Even Iron Man came in and got piled on and chomped.
Chapter II All of a sudden, flocks of chickens came down in UFOs. They had lasers and mad ninja-chicken skills. They had been trained in the ways of the assassins. The zombie vs. chicken war began!
Chapter III The fighting was furious but the chickens won easily because the chickens aimed their lasers at the zombies’ heads. The chickens were sick and tired of laying eggs so they took over the world. They planted their chicken flag and shouted, “Bock, bock!!!”

Crazy Story By Leah, age 9
H
Leah ate pasta salad. The gold kitten had made it for Halloween with pumpkins and cold stuff. The kitten played with marbles. The fire alarm went off, and the monkey went straight to the purple door. On the other side of the door appeared a silver puppy playing guitar. Then it started to snow, and the paper set on fire. The polar bear said, “Puppy, call the fireman,” and then he got into his sailboat and went to see the red owl. The red owl said, “Hoo?” The polar bear answered, “The silver puppy! One minute he’s chopping carrots, the next minute he’s eating a blue bowl full of popcorn. The gold kitten’s favourite colour is lime green.” Jennifer chopped the owl into carrots. And then a kitten looked out the window.

Puppies …
and Pigs! Lost and Found By Josephine, age 8
H
There was a girl named Lucy Belle. She had no friends. One day she went for a walk and found a puppy. She was so happy she brought the puppy home. She played fetch with the puppy. She did not know what to call the puppy, so she said a bunch of names. Lucy said Rapunzel, Bob, Bobby, Henry and Echo. Her mother smiled and said, “You found a friend.” “Yes I did, Mom,” said Lucy excitedly. “I see. You can bring him out for a walk.” So Lucy did. Before Lucy went out with the puppy, she asked, “Is your name Trouble?” The puppy nodded his head. While they were walking, a girl said, “Hey, who are you?” “My name is Lucy, Lucy Belle. What is your name?” “My name is Nana. I like your dog. What is his name?” “His name is Trouble. Go back home,” said Lucy. “Okay, but you have to go back home, too.” “Right, right,” said Lucy.

My Puppy By Sara, age 8
H
My puppy’s name is Chica. She is a chihuahua. Her full name is Chiquita Rosita. Chihuahuas are the smallest breed of dog in the world. I love it when she licks me. Every time she sees me she licks me on my face. She loves socks so much that she steals them from my parents’ bedroom. She really loves chewing on socks. She loves them so much that she pounces on everyone’s feet and tries to pull their socks off. She jumps up on my bed and chases her tail. She is also very naughty. One time I let her off her leash and she ran down the street in front of a parking lot exit. She ran all the way across the street to 7-Eleven. I caught her and we went home and I put her into her furry nest. After that I never let her off her leash!

Pomeranian Dog By Valentina, age 8
H
The pomeranian doesn’t bark. It’s soft and furry and it makes me allergic. But I still want to have one. They’re so cute. One time I went to my cousin’s garden with his cute and cuddly pomeranian. He was less cute when he took a pee in the garden. The second time I went to the garden, he didn’t poo or pee and he was cute again. The third time I went, he wouldn’t come out of the door. So I asked my cousin to pick him up and bring him to the garden, and when he did, the pomeranian pooped. I asked my cousin to pick the poo up but he said that I had to pick it up. Another time I went to my cousin’s house I saw the dog had a hot-pink cast. The dog looked funny with the cast on. I love pomeranians.

H
Me: Hi, how are you? Trevor: Fine. I guess. Me: Are you sure? Trevor: Yeah, if you count being hit by a car twice and dropping your wallet down the drain.
Me: Oh. Trevor: Yeah, it’s been a pretty good day so far. Me: Where are you? Trevor: In my cramped-up condo. Me: Do you have any pets to keep you company? Trevor: Well, I had a turtle that kind of looked like me. Me: Really? Trevor: Why did you interrupt me? Me: Oh, sorry. Trevor: I don’t blame you. It was pretty boring, right? Anyway, he died yesterday. Me: Oh, I am really sorry about that. Trevor: It’s okay. He was kind of a pain anyway. He ate my lottery tickets, which took me three months to save up for.

Adventures The Day of Sins By Phillip, age 12
H
There was once a man named Joseph. He liked to jack books from the library and jack hobos’ food. But at the same time, he was a really nice person. He helped little old ladies cross the street, if there was a power outage in the city he would direct traffic and, most of all, he left a few Cheetos at the end of the bag for his grandma. But eventually the cops caught up to him. The hobos and the librarians who reported him to the cops saw him but they finally realized that he was a good person, too. So everyone decided to give him one more chance. Joseph realized at that moment that it was his time to escape. He got in his car and ran a red light. He hit his grandmother and drove through an orphanage and out of town. By this time, even police from different countries were onto him, because he had done the same thing in every country he’d been to. He did the same thing over and over. Not the good stuff during the day, just the bad stuff he did at night. Finally, after he drove through the sixth orphanage, there was a roadblock. The roadblock had FBI trucks
21
filled with police units ready to jump out. Even the German police were there. Heck, even the fire trucks and ambulances came out. Finally Joseph’s reign of terror had ended. First, he was taken to a fire station and was forced to put out a forest fire with only a bucket and a water gun. After that, he had to rebuild all six orphanages. Then he was taken to the hospital, where he had to do surgery with only a syringe. (That must have been a fun morning for the patient.) Then he was forced to stick both his hands in human ash. Then, when it was the police’s turn, they just straight-up locked him up in solitary with only Cheetos for a snack. When Joseph was finally released from all that punishment, his grandma got the last laugh. She locked him in his room for a week with only a half-eaten sandwich for dinner.

There were a lot of people surrounding him, and when he woke up he said, “OMG, what is this place?” A lady said, “You’re on the ground,” and he said, “Whaa. . . ? What’s that?” The lady said, “You’re in my backyard.” He said “Whaa. . . ? What’s that?” The lady answered with anger: “You’re on Earth!” He gasped. The lady said, “Wait, you’re not from here,

are you?” The guy said, “No, I’m from Pluto.” Everyone gasped and they all sat in a circle to hear his story. He said, “Pluto is a colourful world. People are different colours, and animals too.” The lady said, “Why don’t you take off your space helmet so we can hear you better?” He said, “Because I can’t breathe air.” The lady said, “What? No way. Here on Earth, we breathe air. How come you can’t?” “Well, because I come from Pluto, and in Pluto we don’t breath air,” said the guy. The lady said, “So take it off, if you can’t breathe anyway.” “No,” said the guy, “the air will kill me.” Suddenly, a bike rider came and knocked him over. Then he fell and his helmet cracked into little pieces.

The Story About How the World Ended! By Robert, age 10
Book #1
H
You know the future is all going to be different, but you don’t know how it’s going to end unexpectedly. There was a man named Ryan, and Ryan was a tenyear-old boy who was not very smart. One time he went on a trip to Germany. And he declared war on Germany. (It was an accident. He thought he was acting in a movie, but he said his movie lines to the German president!) A week later, Ryan went back to his home in Miami, Florida, but when he got there, Miami had been destroyed. So he tried to take a plane to Canada, but he forgot to bring his passport. So he busted into the airport and took one of their planes, but obviously didn’t know how to drive it—because he is only ten, and not very smart—so he crashed in Seattle. Ryan landed in the American Air Force storage place, where they keep all their nuclear warheads. He found one of the biggest nuclear warheads in the world and accidentally activated it and launched it. The rocket went
24
The Pencil and Eraser That Never Gave Up
into Mt. St. Helens and somehow got to the core of the Earth. (I don’t know how, since it should have melted in the magma.) The warhead blew up the core of the Earth, and the rest of the Earth.
Book #2 Ryan didn’t actually die. He landed in the International Space Station. (It was abandoned and indestructible.) And then he saw the most amazing thing—he saw the rocks of the exploded Earth form back together. Ryan tried to drive the space station back to the new Earth. But he accidentally landed on the moon. The space station actually wasn’t totally indestructible, and when he landed too hard, it exploded. Ryan survived, and remembered he can jump really far. So he was able to jump to Earth, but he landed in the Pacific Ocean. Somehow he was able to swim all the way to Canada. (He was swimming with sharks and almost died.) He walked back to Seattle and then to Mt. St. Helens. Then he accidentally fell into the volcano. He made it through the magma (again, I don’t know how people could make it through magma) and then found all these old weapons in the core of the Earth. Ryan saw this huge egg thingy—it was actually the core of the Earth, but he thought it was a huge dragon’s egg—and he picked up a weapon and hit it so hard that it exploded and the Earth and the rest of the galaxy (for some reason) ended. But not his wife.

H
I went to the post office. There was an envelope with tiny words. They started to move and talk. They tried to run away. They sneaked under the door. And turned all the letters in the books alive. There was noise coming from the note. It said, “Find the mayor man in the underworld.” They found him and couldn’t spell his name. So the boy found a book that magically appeared in his hands. The book sucked the tiny letters and the boy in. He battled lots of monsters, but something happened

in every battle. The little letters turned as big as the monsters. When they found the mayor man he looked very weird. He caught all the letters. But then all the letters combined and the boy became bigger than anything. They had a very bad battle. When the boy won, he was transported back to his home, and lived happily ever after.
How to Use a Typewriter By Benny, age 7
H
Once you buy a typewriter, look at the instructions. If you look at the typewriter and the colour is set on “white,” switch it to any colour but white or else it will just print white. If you put paper into the typewriter and type any word in the alphabet, it will type it onto the paper. (Unless it’s set on white.) Keep writing what you want on the typewriter! But if you are bored, you should not use the typewriter. Once you are done, you will know how to use a typewriter!
