For the last eleven years, the gallery has curated an end-ofseason finale investigating the abiding attributes of great Texas art, posing the perennial question for all who care: “What makes Texas art, “Texas” art? The Texas Aesthetic series has been the gallery’s effort to engage viewers in an examination and celebration of the long tradition of Texas painting. By showcasing the content and style of a select group of contemporary Texas painters, we have attempted to not only convey the excellence of their present work, but also to rouse a greater reflection upon past progressions of our state’s visual arts fortunes… all of this to call attention to the rich artistic legacy which we hold as Texans. Over the past eleven years, The Texas Aesthetic has grown from a sixman exhibition to a group show of twenty-plus artists. The exhibition was actually the genesis of our Contemporary Texas Regionalist group, and today, the show features their incredible works, along with those of an array of specially invited guest artists. The exhibition itself has now evolved into a genuine Texas art tradition, representing one of the premier gatherings of contemporary Texas talent, and garnering popular review and curatorial interest from all over Texas and the American Southwest. With such success and fanfare, there should be no surprise that in The Texas Aesthetic XI, the gallery launches the exhibition’s second decade of this important exhibition series with an even bigger and better offering of Texas material! This year’s Texas Aesthetic has been thoughtfully crafted to bring patrons the summer’s most complete Texas art

opportunity. Besides a stunning array of exceptional Texas artwork, the gallery rolls out the red carpet in a series of “Saturday Soirees” featuring the best of Texas literature, music, film and libations. Co-sponsored with Texas Monthly, Reaves | Foltz have partnered with the likes of Texas A&M University Press (and their Texas Book Consortium), KTRU’s radio host Joey McKeel, and a host of museum collaborations including Austin’s Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the Grace Museum in Abilene, and Midland’s Haley Memorial Library to create a fun-filled, riveting art adventure. All of this pushing the exhibitions central thesis—“the finding of ‘Texas’ in Texas art”—to new heights and popular appeal. Check the William Reaves | Sarah Foltz Fine Art website often for schedule and further developments. This year’s production will again include more than a score of the state’s premier working artists, accompanied by a prestigious group of art historians offering insights and informed observations on the past and present legacy of Texas’ visual arts. If you are only going to experience one art show this year, make it The Texas Aesthetic XI! It’s a great way to celebrate the rich and lively cultural progressions of our Lone Star State and a culminating segue marking the end of yet another dazzling season of Texas art at William Reaves | Sarah Foltz Fine Art! - Bill Reaves & Sarah Foltz
