The annual Texas Aesthetic exhibition returns to William Reaves Fine Art, the notable Texas-centered gallery on Brun Street, bringing many of the state’s best painters to the city and reminding Houstonians of the virtues of Lone Star regionalism. This year’s Texas Aesthetic event marks the seventh consecutive rendition of this hallmark series in which the gallery examines the current status and continuing legacy of Texas landscape painting. Texas Aesthetic VII features the gallery’s stable of Contemporary Texas Regionalists, a group of sixteen of the state’s most prominent artists hailing from parts all across Texas. While featuring contemporary works the Texas Aesthetic actually constitutes a “legacy” exhibition, celebrating past traditions of Texas landscape painting by showcasing some of the most accomplished contemporary artists who carry on these traditions today. All of the artists included paint either a style and subject matter which is directly inspired by earlier Texas masters who were at work in the early decades of the twentieth century, a time during which images of our state were just being captured on canvas. The exhibition offers a pleasing opportunity to reflect upon the unique compositional elements and painterly qualities which continue to define “Texas” in art. We believe that the works included are worthy of the attention of serious Texas collectors and that the selected artists have proven to be a “cut above”. Texas art aficionados will definitely connect with the works in this show, and will take heart in the fact that these artists who have chosen to devote their considerable talents to the continued task of capturing today’s Lone Star scene. Participating artists include: Randy Bacon (Albany), Mary Baxter (Marfa), Margie Crisp (Elgin), Keith Davis (Austin), Jon Flaming (Richardson), Pat Gabriel (Fort Worth), Lee Jamison (Huntsville), Robb Kendrick (Austin),
Laura Lewis (Mason), William Montgomery (Elgin), Noe Perez (Corpus Christi), Jeri Salter (Round Rock), Debbie Stevens (Cypress), and William Young (Palestine). In addition, Texas Aesthetic VII also includes watercolors by local artists Erik Sprohge and Hunter George, both from Houston. We invite you to join us for this culminating exhibition of the 2013-14 season. As always, we welcome your company and feel certain that you will be both inspired and enthralled by these grand Texas views! Bill Reaves President, William Reaves Fine Art
