Margaret signs off after 24 years A

party was held for retiring WRVS Meals on Wheels organiser Margaret Dowell. The event was hosted in her own home after volunteers organised it as a tribute to Margaret’s 24 years of volunteering with WRVS. She began volunteering in 1987 after retiring from work.

As a gift, Margaret was given a patchwork quilt made by volunteer Pat Gaskell, which was embroidered with the signatures of many of the people she has worked with over the years. “For a lot of people living on their own, the sight of a cheerful WRVS volunteer is an important part of their lives,” said Margaret.

R&R help feed 40 firefighters

“People like the chance to see a friendly face and have a chat, and it means there is always someone calling to make sure everything is all right.” Margaret won’t be disappearing from WRVS completely. She will continue to help run the Liss Lunch Club at Liss village hall on Thursdays.

ongratulations to Liz Reed who recently completed her NVQ Level 4 in managing volunteers. “NVQ Level 4 is equivalent to a first degree, which has been a personal achievement for me,” says Liz, who is the Local Service Manager for the Cornhill Centre. “Our volunteers have been amazing. went to Cranleigh Fire Station and spent the next four hours in the station kitchen making hot drinks and sandwiches for the 40 firefighters. The fire service was very grateful for the support they received during the incident.
