Learning from each other W

e are holding a series of events in the south west during 2011 to bring our volunteers and managers together so they can learn from each other. We are working towards making the south west a great place to grow old. “It’s about tapping into the powerful benefits our volunteers bring,” says South West Head of Services Steven Hargreaves, “not just to our customers, but also to our own organisation.” “I’ve been particularly impressed by the passion and knowledge of our volunteers. We’ve heard so many good ideas from our first meetings and it’s clear that by sharing and learning from each other we’ll be able to improve the services

ounger people are being encouraged to work and volunteer for WRVS. We’ve attended a variety of events in the South West, including university careers fairs, school open days, recruitment fairs and community youth groups, in order to raise interest in volunteering. Many young people have come forward to be part of WRVS as a result and we hope to recruit more.

y Kellett, who featured in the last issue of action, has donated £800 to WRVS. The biker suffered severe injuries after coming off his bike in 2009. He raised the money to say thanks to the volunteers who aided his recovery. Volunteers at Frenchay Hospital supported Ty’s parents throughout his time in hospital. While he lay in a sedated coma, Ty’s parents were provided with onsite accommodation.
