RVS has launched a Devon Community Transport service. Covering Plymouth and the surrounding area, the service will help people who cannot access public transport to remain independent and active in their local community. Local Service Manager Nick Wharton (below) said: “Community transport is especially important where mobility issues can make it difficult for older people to use public transport. If the service is successful it will extend its reach to the whole of Devon.” Amanda Whitlock, Service Delivery Manager for Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, adds: “This service provides the vital support to ensure older people can access what they need, when they need it.” For more information, please contact Nick Wharton on 01548 853 259.

RVS has teamed up with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to launch Care Bank. The project will reward ‘time credits’ to those who help others. These credits can then be used in a number of different ways, such as being saved and exchanged for the volunteers’ own support in the
future, for instance. The venture will hopefully encourage others to give up their time. Whether cutting a lawn, taking someone to the shops or helping around the house, volunteers can decide how to exchange their credits, and choose how they would like to help older people in their community.
SOUTH & SOUTH WEST EDITION
The initiative will build on the work already being done by WRVS in the community, reducing the isolation sometimes felt by older people and allowing them to live happy and independent lives in their own homes. To read more about the launch of Care Bank, turn to page 10.
