Gift makes a big difference SALFORD

W

RVS presented Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust with a cheque for £180,000 during a ceremony at Salford Royal Hospital. The money, raised from profits at Salford Royal, has been put towards refurbishments in the hospital, including the Ladywell café, making it more accessible for those living with dementia. The café has been redesigned to ensure there are distinct visual lines on the flooring and wall finishes for those with poor peripheral vision. The same principle was applied to the shape of the table tops and the finishes of the furniture against the flooring, to ensure that all edges are clearly defined. The presentation was followed by a visit from the Rt Hon Hazel Blears, MP for Salford and Eccles, who is a member of the all-party parliamentary group on dementia. “It was a real pleasure to visit the brand new WRVS dementia-friendly café at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and to meet with the volunteers,” said Mrs Blears. “We know that not only is the support provided by the volunteers very important but the environment makes a tremendous difference for those with dementia.”

Salford Royal Chairman Jim Potter said: “Volunteers from WRVS have been supporting Salford Royal for more than 45 years. During our working relationship, hundreds of thousands of pounds have been generated by WRVS and reinvested back into the trust, via donations, for the benefit of our patients. We are extremely grateful to WRVS for this.” Right: MP Hazel Blears dropped into the hospital to see the refurbishment and met Deputy Manager Michael Gregson
