RVS presented Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a gifting of £195,000. The money was raised at the WRVS shop and tea bar at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital and the on-ward trolley service at Royal Preston Hospital. It will go towards a patient hotel, supporting those receiving daily treatments who live a distance away.
“To raise such a huge sum and donate it in this way is testament to the hard work and dedication of those involved and reflects a genuine commitment to helping others in our community,” said MP for Chorley Lindsay Hoyle. ‘Thanks again to WRVS for all the work done this year, and in particular this extremely generous donation to the trust.” Melissa Cartwright, Service Delivery Manager for the North West, Yorkshire and
Humberside, added: “We are delighted to present such a large amount of money. The money was raised through the hard work and efforts of our dedicated volunteers who help WRVS in its work to support older people and make Britain a great place to grow old.” During the event, 13 WRVS volunteers were also presented with long-service medals to acknowledge their commitment to volunteering.

RVS Parish House Darby and Joan Club celebrated its 50th birthday with an event that included entertainment and a right good sing-along for all of those who attended. The event also celebrated volunteer Sue Jenkinson’s retirement. She was presented with a long-service award for 27 years volunteering (pictured above), and after the presentation Sue helped to provide the entertainment with her vocal group. “The day was a real success and Carol and the other volunteers from the club worked really hard to make it a very enjoyable event,” says Local Manager Phillip Ross. “It was a true reflection of the good work the club and the volunteers have put in over many years to provide services for the Kirklees community.”
